  1. We (Proline) have been basically shutdown since early November. A friend of mine at Viking, was furloughed until April 1, that was from last December. Hope he's back at work now. Was in the middle of building the new 84.

The boat building business is not a good business to be in right now. Just ask the folks at Whaler, Wellcraft, Pursuit, Donzi, Angler, Everglades...the list goes on and on... :(

I live about 15 minutes from viking. got to know a few at the top there. They should have the staying power. The big problem is the repeat customers cant sell their older boats for a new one. Thats only a few? and the rest of the world is on a holding pattern or worse.

  2. I had a 1976 and it would pound in a sea. In the rivers, etc. it was a pretty good ride. I think pre 81 or 82 were the good boats and after they were cobias (cobalo nickname) and had troubles.

I have a 1978 256 that I put a full transom on and a new 300 Zuke and it's perfect for leaving in the bahamas as I do with her.

The fuel tank is foamed in and ya need a 4000 psi pressure washer to blow the foam away for removal. I think the 20 had 10 or 11 degree deadrise.

Didnt have a 20 but a 23 from that vintage and Foam in the hull was wet and heavy. The floor deck coring needed replacing in a lot of areas. maybe from the T top screws not sealed properly but it was also bab in areas father away. I think they tried to build a boat similar to boston whaler with all the foam in the hull? which made it heavy and a tough time removing the fuel tank to a new one because it was bad on mine. Do your home work when you sea trial?

  3. Thank you. I really think it's two separate issues. You gave me enough to check out the gauges, and I'll check the nozzle as well. Thanks-
When you did pump did you mean the whole kit or just the impeller? How about the thermostats? theres two on each engine. It would only take a little salt buildup to block it.

  4. I am trying to figure out the reason that it has a low and seperate normal hight water pickup? I was replacing my stainless plate under the pump and noticed the plate has two seperate openings? The water passage is divided from the base of the impeller to the low front of foot pickup. as is the normal pickup divided and kept seperate, Why? If it is for low water use why is the normal height pickup still there? We know if you were to only feed water at one height pickup and the other is exposed to air the pump will chose the easiest supply,AIR. and burn up the impeller and over heat the engine? Why did they put two seperate & differenty pickup heights on it?

  5. Bly, do you mean you leave it running in the rain? It seems there is no rain protection for it. Even the sockets are flush mounted without cover.

    Thanks both for the comments.

I do not plan to have it full time onboard. I plan to have it when staying full day at sea or night fishing with some projectors to ensure none tries to board me and grab my belongings.

I do not have a charger. I have never needed it as I have a solar panel to keep my batteries charged.

I run mine in the rain. I would not recommend it. I also tell my kids dont do what I have done in the past. You are right tho on the sockets being unprotected. I have had it shut down in the rain but it did restart and maybe there is a built in ground fault interupter? I just used it the other day in the rain. I had to go out in anold boat yard and cut something where it was to long to run a power cord. Im still here?

  6. Seems like the TLR LU was a part of the Vmax bass boat motor. If it was a direct bolt-up to the 225 mid-section, I guess you would call it someone's "hybrid"... :504_shrugging:
Osprey I found out some more on it. Its a 2006 or newer 250 hp Lower Unit because it has both the standard normal pick ups and two more at the level of the prop. The Vmax bass boat motors, has only the low ones? how it got there and why yamaha was so intriqued is enougher question?

  7. Hi All,

Lurking at the generator Honda EU1000i.

I saw pictures of pilot houses keeping it on the bow, others at the stern, or even on the roof.

    My stresses are:

    - CO fumes to the cabin;

    - Protection from sea water sprays/rain.

I am thinking to mount it above the outboard on a specific rack (where I currently have the raft) or even making a pedestal on the OB cowling. I can ensure the strength.

Best would be at the stern, but it often happens that winds blows from stern to cabin.

What are your thoughts on the location? Anybody ever made an exhaust extension?

About sea spray (and rain), how would you protect it without getting electric shock, blocking the cooling or choking it with its own fumes?

Optional question: It delivers 8 amps at 12V. Can I connect directly to my batteries or do I need a regulator just as for solar panel? I would actually only need it for the 12V DC.

    Thanks for your help

    Pierre

My eu1000 is only brought on board when fishing at night. I have the DC charging part and all you do is hook it up. Like the generator its for emergency or such. This unit is not made for permanent hookup? It sounds like thats what you want to do? Its a great unit . I fish stripers in the rain and breakers at night and its never let me down. Dont really have a cabin to worry about fumes but co2 detectors are cheap? I have a friend that bungees his to his T top once hes fishing but he does not run with it up there only when hes drifting or moving slow. They are very light. I keep mine in my garage at home and have had to use it twice when power goes out. Always full of gas ready to go. I just put it outside garage door ran extesion cord into house and plugged in refrigerator to keep beer cold til they fixed power. Its a great little unit but don ask it to do to much?

  8. I recently picked up a 2005 F225 and after hanging the engine on the boat{on trailer still} I decided to install new waterpump kit, Also change gear oil. Right off I couldnt find the lower plug to drain the gear oil? It was under a black plastic water pickup screen. Then I started taking the waterpump apart after dropping the lower unit. No problem til I found out my factory waterpump kit was not a match to the pump and lower unit? I went back to my yamaha parts man and he never saw one either? We ended up calling yamaha factory and they told where onlin to find the lower unit! Its called a TLR and it was made for skinney water apparently? Anyone ever had any dealings with these? Its not what came standard on a 2005 F225 from what yamaha said. Infact he wanted to know where I got it? The world wide web of course. I didnt look the engine over real good because I picked it up for $3,500. and felt like a thief leaving for that price. Anyone have any experience with one of these lower units? What else is different besides the pump and pickups?

  9. Bly,

So this is what you need. This:

    and this:

    wpres-100.jpg

No extra wires needed, just a jumper from one of the gauges to provide backlighting. You'll also need 1/8" hose, which Yam sells. The sender screws into either head at the base of it. Have your dealer show you where.

Then of course you have to run the hose forward. It fits over a barb on the back of the gauge similar to a regular speedo.

    Gauge P/N 6Y7-83660-10-0

    Sender P/N MAR-WPRES-AD-TR

Verify the pressure range from your dealer. Some need 30 PSI display, some need 40.

Wow! Thanks that was quick and informative, Thanks250 osprey and thanks wiley for starting up the reelboating site!

  10. I HIGHLY recommend a water pressure gauge to the standard compliment of gauges. When I was at Wellcraft ('94-'00), it was standard on every boat, including the 165 CCF/AS 165 Striper.

    165Striper, verify that for me...

Ken2 or Osprey maybe you can help me on this? I am in the process of hanging a 2005 225 4stroke inplace of a yam 2 stroke. If I buy a pressure guage? Does yamaha make it? Do I have to buy a sender and does yam make it? do I have to run extra wires from eng to guage or does it conect to harness.
  11. Kern,

Switching over to vinylester is not that big of a deal, just the cost issue. It is still compatable with the various glasses. We switched over years ago and didn't have to change any of our substrate materiel. The cost, these days, is the real hiccup with builders...

Good choice though. Using a water proof resin in the boating world makes sense. Atleast to me,which is worth about 2 cents
  12. Put a water pressure guage on your engine.

    You should have one anyways.

When you say 1 3/4 inches higher then normal. whats "normal"

With that much setback, the cavitation/ventilation plates should be roughly 2 1/2 to 3 inches above the hull anyways.

You might have your engines too low still.

At a fast cruise speed, trimmed however the boat likes to be normally, can you see the cavitation plate?

    Low

    Correct

    correctheight21-1.jpg

Thanks ken 2 I think after seeing your pictures Im ok with height. Im almost like your second picture. I think maybee it was just my wore out 90 psi compression engine last year that didnt want to run wide open very long?

  13. I have a 30 in setback flotation bracket with a yamaha v6 on an old 233 formula. I have the cavitation plate about a 1 3/4 inches higher than normal and I have to trim out pretty far to break the prop loose? Can I loose water pickup without cavitation? My older 2 stroke 250 engs had a little overheat at high speed. I thought it was just getting old but what if its loosing water pickup? I have read where the flats boat guys tha run in skinny water have special low water pickups? I now have aF225 and I dont want to hurt it?
