  1. The sport f225 is a bass boat motor using this lower unit. but all the new F250s are using this lower unit now also from what I can find out.
  2. I am trying to figure out the reason that it has a low and seperate normal hight water pickup? I was replacing my stainless plate under the pump and noticed the plate has two seperate openings? The water passage is divided from the base of the impeller to the low front of foot pickup. as is the normal pickup divided and kept seperate, Why? If it is for low water use why is the normal height pickup still there? We know if you were to only feed water at one height pickup and the other is exposed to air the pump will chose the easiest supply,AIR. and burn up the impeller and over heat the engine? Why did they put two seperate & differenty pickup heights on it?
  3. I run mine in the rain. I would not recommend it. I also tell my kids dont do what I have done in the past. You are right tho on the sockets being unprotected. I have had it shut down in the rain but it did restart and maybe there is a built in ground fault interupter? I just used it the other day in the rain. I had to go out in anold boat yard and cut something where it was to long to run a power cord. Im still here?
  4. Osprey I found out some more on it. Its a 2006 or newer 250 hp Lower Unit because it has both the standard normal pick ups and two more at the level of the prop. The Vmax bass boat motors, has only the low ones? how it got there and why yamaha was so intriqued is enougher question?
  5. My eu1000 is only brought on board when fishing at night. I have the DC charging part and all you do is hook it up. Like the generator its for emergency or such. This unit is not made for permanent hookup? It sounds like thats what you want to do? Its a great unit . I fish stripers in the rain and breakers at night and its never let me down. Dont really have a cabin to worry about fumes but co2 detectors are cheap? I have a friend that bungees his to his T top once hes fishing but he does not run with it up there only when hes drifting or moving slow. They are very light. I keep mine in my garage at home and have had to use it twice when power goes out. Always full of gas ready to go. I just put it outside garage door ran extesion cord into house and plugged in refrigerator to keep beer cold til they fixed power. Its a great little unit but don ask it to do to much?
  6. I have had my eye on one of these since I saw it at one of the northern shows this winter. Yes I fish alone too.
  7. I recently picked up a 2005 F225 and after hanging the engine on the boat{on trailer still} I decided to install new waterpump kit, Also change gear oil. Right off I couldnt find the lower plug to drain the gear oil? It was under a black plastic water pickup screen. Then I started taking the waterpump apart after dropping the lower unit. No problem til I found out my factory waterpump kit was not a match to the pump and lower unit? I went back to my yamaha parts man and he never saw one either? We ended up calling yamaha factory and they told where onlin to find the lower unit! Its called a TLR and it was made for skinney water apparently? Anyone ever had any dealings with these? Its not what came standard on a 2005 F225 from what yamaha said. Infact he wanted to know where I got it? The world wide web of course. I didnt look the engine over real good because I picked it up for $3,500. and felt like a thief leaving for that price. Anyone have any experience with one of these lower units? What else is different besides the pump and pickups?
  8. Wow! Thanks that was quick and informative, Thanks250 osprey and thanks wiley for starting up the reelboating site!
  9. Ken2 or Osprey maybe you can help me on this? I am in the process of hanging a 2005 225 4stroke inplace of a yam 2 stroke. If I buy a pressure guage? Does yamaha make it? Do I have to buy a sender and does yam make it? do I have to run extra wires from eng to guage or does it conect to harness.
  10. Good choice though. Using a water proof resin in the boating world makes sense. Atleast to me,which is worth about 2 cents
  11. Thanks ken 2 I think after seeing your pictures Im ok with height. Im almost like your second picture. I think maybee it was just my wore out 90 psi compression engine last year that didnt want to run wide open very long?
  12. I have a 30 in setback flotation bracket with a yamaha v6 on an old 233 formula. I have the cavitation plate about a 1 3/4 inches higher than normal and I have to trim out pretty far to break the prop loose? Can I loose water pickup without cavitation? My older 2 stroke 250 engs had a little overheat at high speed. I thought it was just getting old but what if its loosing water pickup? I have read where the flats boat guys tha run in skinny water have special low water pickups? I now have aF225 and I dont want to hurt it?
