  1. On my f225 yam formula project boat this is my next project after years of being one of those I just switch the selector on the trip in guys. No more, Im going to do it the right way for once?
  2. If the motor is reliable than keep it and run it til it dies. If you use that as your reasoning to buy a newer more powerful engine? Then guaranteed it will never die. thats lifes rule! I now own a 2005 F225 4 stroke on the back of my $50.00 60s formula 233 project boat. The motor is worth what a f225 is worth and the boat is probably worth a little over $50 dollars, even tho I put a lot of labor and material into it?Thats boating and I live for it and a little more.
  3. I agree with both how to build and why not to build out of smelly resin!
  4. I would not go so far as to call it a carolina style? I do have a former coworker and friend that has Abused his 26 Southport for 3 years like no one else could? As soon as he gets in open water area its to the pins!He tortures that poor boat, the way he tortured me when he was learning a trade under me! If that southport can take his abuse then its got my vote!
  5. Come on mike your ruining it! What was your first boat? Like this in the earlly 60s my older brother inlaw had a 16 ft Glass par with a 75 hp johnson. Biggest engine made when he bought it. The plywood floor always needed fiberlassing or the double bottom would get water in it. See its easy talking about the crap we started out with?
  6. I will be giving away my age, but here goes. in the early 60s growing up with the ocean 1500 ft one way and the bay and intercoastal even closer the other way. I found a planked garvey abandoned on the marshes and a relative found me a small old outboard with no reverse. the engine spun around 360degrees so no reverse or even neutral? I thinki it was called a martin. I almost drowned that winter in it. I was hooking up the pully sashweight while motor was still running and it spun around and over I went in november with a winter coat on. I think I was twelve or so and scared on an outgoing tide heading for the inlet? I wonder why I never foregot that boat? If I told you I have owned a 100 boats since then I might be underestimating?
  7. Andrea the product works great and as advertised. I have been using mine for three weeks and It works as advertised. The belt clip has me worried a little but has not failed yet? The blinky lights are very confusing but now I just Ignore them. There is too much going on and when reading the manual my brain started blinking? I am a little slow tho? When I launch my boat alone and I have the auto tether on. It shuts the Idyling engie off when I get to far parking the truck. I know its working even tho Im confused by the blinkies? I havent managed to fall over board yet? but give me time. Thanks andrea.
  8. I use to work in oil refineries, When bolting up valves or special fittings of differnt metals we would use what is called a Dialectric washer kit. It consisted of plastic washers and sleves that Issolated the two types of metal. along with a Issolating gasket set. For doing a trailer I would atleast grease everything as welder said!
  9. And the problem is? Deciding which boat to take fishing! or on vacation. I cant remember the last time I didnt own more than one boat? I am from South Jersey. Even though its a lot differnt than most peoples perception of N.J. I am not a redneck, Just been hung up on boats for too long.
  10. Even using factory supplied gel coat still almost never matches? Its the sun and weathering that screws up the match. I have had to a very small ammount of brown pigment to compensate for weathering most times. Then unless you want to polish the complete boat to the patch? Becarefull on how good you buff the repair?
  11. Mine did? Someone suggested that too much grease will not give room for expasion when they warm up?
  12. Make sure its not comming loose on its own? On my way to my present vacation I checked all bearings and greased them. I aded two new bearing buddies that were not put on when I changed out the bearings and hubs a mont ago. I guess I didnt have it beat in all the way as one apparently came off first and cause that almost new bearing to be destroyed in a few hundred miles? I was checking tires and heat on hubs once or twice but not soon enough?
  13. I am in hatteras for two weeks and only made it out 1 day off shore. Lot a wind. Hpefully next week will be better. Had lotsa Mahi 1 blackfin. There were a few Blue marlin raised the day we were out. A boat neighbor has been getting cobia pretty consistant. I am fishing out of hatteras village and started trolling and catching about 15 miles off in 72 degree water.
  14. I used mine yesterday and it all went well. Very easy installation. I was a little confused by the blinking lights?I looked them up in the manual and It was ok. It does work though. I did not fall over? but twice while launching and retrieving my boat, Parking truck I was wearing the mobil tether. I found the unit had gone off when I apparently got to far from the boat? No problem,It works. I now feel a little better about being alone on a moving boat.
  15. I found it. I am just alittle slow today?
  16. I dont see it? wheres the link? Sometimes I am a little slow tho
  17. Fast service. I think I got mine the next day almost? I wont be going out in the boat til the end of the week. cant wait to feel safer. It must be true that the older you get the wiser you get.I prove that fact because I would have never got one when I was younger.
  18. Im in to Wiley. where do I place the order ?
  19. Chris from ACR, thank you very much. That hit the nail on the head. If I could ask one more question of you? I would like to buy an acr product, But. I am being told not only is the ACR more expensive than the mc murdo. but the batterys dont need to be changed as often and they cost less to change them? This is what Im being told? Is it a case of apples and oranges? Like the epirb and plb ?
  20. I was reading the sales info on these and they transmit at 4 and the 1. freq.s it says its water proof to a point and that it has a gps? Is it because it does not float? Why are these for sale around $290 and list price is only $325? It says the battery is good for 5 years too.ACR closest Item is near $500 unless im not understanding Advertising? I am sometimes a little slow if I screwed up on this comparison? Thanks for a reply setting me straight. But be nice, I have feelings too. thanks.
  21. Im not really here. Im from mid atlantic region. just lurking this once.
  22. Thats nice. Now theres almost no need to go to that other place?
  23. I live about 15 minutes from viking. got to know a few at the top there. They should have the staying power. The big problem is the repeat customers cant sell their older boats for a new one. Thats only a few? and the rest of the world is on a holding pattern or worse.
  24. Didnt have a 20 but a 23 from that vintage and Foam in the hull was wet and heavy. The floor deck coring needed replacing in a lot of areas. maybe from the T top screws not sealed properly but it was also bab in areas father away. I think they tried to build a boat similar to boston whaler with all the foam in the hull? which made it heavy and a tough time removing the fuel tank to a new one because it was bad on mine. Do your home work when you sea trial?
  25. When you did pump did you mean the whole kit or just the impeller? How about the thermostats? theres two on each engine. It would only take a little salt buildup to block it.
