That womanizing sure will get to ya! ================================= Lee Westwood Takes Over No. 1, Ends Tiger Woods' 5-Year Reign1 10/31/2010 12:35 PM ET By Chris Sesno Lee Westwood has taken over the world No. 1 golf ranking, ending Tiger Woods' five-year reign atop the Official World Golf Rankings. Woods has held the spot for 281 consecutive weeks after grabbing No. 1 the week before the 2005 U.S. Open. For much of that time, his top ranking was hardly threatened, but struggles on and of the course this season put his ranking in jeopardy. Phil Mickelson had opportunities to take the throne in 12 tournaments but failed to deliver when the pressure was on. Martin Kaymer, arguably the world's best player right now, would have leapfrogged Westwood for the No. 1 spot had he finished in the top two at the Andalucia Masters in Spain. Instead, Kaymer finished outside of the top 20 and Westwood passes Woods despite a calf injury that has kept him outside the ropes since the Bridgestone Invitational in early August. Westwood is the first European since Nick Faldo in 1994 to be No. 1, and only the 13th since the current ranking system began in 1986. Despite the injury, Westwood is coming off two strong seasons. He missed out on a playoff at the 2009 British Open by one shot, and finished runner up to Mickelson at the 2010 Masters and to Louis Oosthuizen at the British Open at St. Andrews. But it's a tight gap at the top of the rankings. This week's HSBC Champions in Shanghai could result with Westwood, Woods, Kaymer or Mickelson at No. 1. Woods has spent 623 total weeks atop the rankings, and this marks only the 10th time he has relinquished the spot. The longest streak he has not been No. 1 was 26 weeks at the end of the 2004 season and beginning of 2005 when Vijay Singh was the world's top-ranked golfer.
  5. OK, can that thought! Anyone see Sid?
  6. Hmmm, very interesting call by the ref on that "fumble". Wonder if the league have decided that it would be good to help Dallas out a bit?
  7. Kudos to the winning coach. ============================= Classy New Jersey coach gives skid-breaking game ball to foe By Cameron Smith Last Friday, South New Jersey was host to a heated battle between two struggling teams. When the game was finally over, Sterling (N.J.) High coach Jarod Claybourn had to decide what to do with a game ball from his program's first win in two years. According to Philadelphia Inquirer columnist Phil Anastasia, he chose the least-likely recipient in a choice which testified to Claybourn's class: He gave the ball to the other coach. "I don't even know if I can put it into words," Gateway coach Mike Karp, the ball's recipient, told Anastasia. "We're two struggling programs. Somebody had to lose, and we came up on the short end of the scoreboard. "But for him to do that, it just shows that we gained some respect that night. That means so much to our kids." Both teams were shooting for respect while carrying the baggage of epic losing streaks. Sterling entered having lost 17 straight games, sitting at 0-5 in 2010. Gateway was also 0-5, and the 20-13 loss it absorbed on Friday pushed its own losing streak to 17 games. While the game had to have a winner and loser, Claybourn said there was no reason why his team deserved to win any more than its opponent. Leading late in the fourth quarter, Sterling declined to punt on a fourth down near midfield to try and salt away a rare victory. Instead, Gateway's defense held strong and earned the ball back. Gateway then put together one final, dramatic march down the field, fighting into the red zone before the game clock finally ran out. "They just ran out of time," Claybourn told the Inquirer. "They deserved to win that game as much as we did, if not more. "They had something like 17 players in uniform [actually, 19]. For them to play as hard as they did and come that close to winning, I just wanted to honor them in some way." Claybourn indicated his decision to give up the game ball was a reflection of his own personal experience. While struggling through week after week of losses, some devastatingly close, it was sometimes hard for Claybourn to find positive signs to build on. Gaining the respect of an opponent is one of those signs, and handing over the winning game ball was the strongest indication Claybourn's team could give Gateway that it had earned Sterling's respect. "It was very emotional for me," Claybourn said. "I looked at him, and I knew exactly where he was. I know exactly what it's like to be right there and have an opportunity to win a game and have it taken away from you." Nearly a week later, the memory is still just as emotional for Karp as well. "Classiest thing I've ever seen on a football field," Karp told the Inquirer.
  8. Used to watch this religiously every week! ===================================== James MacArthur, 'Hawaii Five-O' Star, Dies at 72 Hawaii Five-O Battle Of The Bulge James MacArthur, who gained worldwide fame in the 1970s as "Danno" in the iconic TV series, 'Hawaii Five-O,' died on Thursday at his home, a family representative told PEOPLE. He was 72. The actor's agent, Richard Lewis, told the AP that MacArthur died of "natural causes" in Florida, however, no other details have been given. In a career that spanned more than four decades, MacArthur was most recognized for his role as Detective Danny "Danno" Williams on 'Hawaii Five-0,' which aired from 1968 to 1980. Episodes often ended with detective Steve McGarret, the lead character, uttering what became a pop culture catch phrase: "Book 'em, Danno." Jack Lord, who starred as McGarret, died in 1998. MacArthur quit the role of McGarret's sidekick a year before the program's final season. "Quite frankly, I grew bored," he explained on his website. "The stories became more bland and predictable and presented less and less challenge to me as an actor." 'Hawaii Five-O,' one of the longest running crime shows in TV history with 278 episodes, was shot on location in the Hawaiian islands. It was the first Hawaii-based national TV series. The drama has been remade by CBS with a new cast this season. MacArthur acted in several movies, including 'Swiss Family Robinson' and 'The Battle of the Bulge.' His live acting career won him the 1961 Theatre World Award for best new actor for his performance in 'Invitation to a March.' MacArthur was the adopted son of stage and screen icon, Helen Hayes, who died in 1993.

  10. 50 million - I think that is one in seven? ============================================= Univision set to become top U.S. broadcast network By Steve McClellan Steve Mcclellan – Tue Oct 26, 5:50 am ET NEW YORK (Adweek) – With double-digit ratings growth this season, Spanish-language broadcaster Univision is off to a better start than any of the major English-language networks, and the future is promising as well. The new census is expected to show a nearly 45% increase in the number of Hispanic Americans since 2000, to a total of 50 million. This couples with continuing audience erosion at the major networks and Univision's recent deal with Mexican programer Grupo Televisa, which locks up the source of much the network's popular programing for at least another decade. Just a few years ago, the notion of Univision catching and surpassing them would have had mainstream network executives rolling with laughter. They're not laughing now. And they're not talking publicly about it either: When asked to comment, the Big Four nets refused. But a couple of executives talked on background and indicated that they take the threat from Univision seriously. "They're already No. 5," as one put it, having eclipsed the CW. One top network researcher's calculations concluded that Univision could surpass the Anglo networks in seven years, even without the boost provided by growth in the Hispanic population. Ad buyers also believe that Univision has a good shot at topping the Anglo networks on its stated schedule. "It's totally conceivable that in three to five years they would be, regardless of language, the No. 1 broadcast network," said Steven Wolfe Pereira, senior vp and managing director at MV42, a unit of Publicis Groupe's media agency MediaVest. Brad Adgate, senior vp and director of research at Horizon Media, confirmed that Univision is already making strides. "I could see them this season starting to win a couple of nights in adults 18-49," Adgate said. "On Friday nights, they're close to being No. 1 already." Univision CEO Joe Uva is confident that audience growth will drive ad growth in the future. He noted that 55 new brands signed on during this year's "upfront" advertising market, where the network achieved 14% organic growth -- compared with 3% organic growth for the Big Four. And he said tens of millions of that growth were dollars shifted from English-language budgets, a trend he believes will accelerate. "If you're a marketer today, it's almost impossible to achieve sustainable long-term growth if you don't spend against this consumer," he said. That said, about two-thirds of TV advertisers have avoided Spanish-language TV up to now, according to buyers. But when the census is released next year showing the huge jump in the Hispanic population, "corporate boards will pay attention," Wolfe Pereira said. "It will be a real wake-up call."
  11. What! It looks like an 18' Tug!
