  1. I can't help rooting for Michigan State seeing the mess Detroit is in. Otherwise it would be the Tarheels since our favorite fishing place is Hatteras.
  2. Last name Miller. Old Miller beer tag line; "miller-time". Ironicaly none of us drink but the time on the water is when "we relax and enjoy life".
  3. The only positive thing, I think, emerged from this disaster is the focus on safety and the smart things boat owners can and should do before going to sea. I should invest in EBIRB stock too.
  4. The party boat captains in NJ think they will have a great season for fluke. All the New Yorkers will come over to our side to fish. All the NJ guys think this sucks!
  5. We splashed in the Highlands yesterday. It was overcast but flat. Water temp 38 to 41. Took a run around the Hook and down to Sea Bright. On the return had to tow some poor guy who re-wired his boat himself over the winter and didn't have any tow packages. Not a sign of fish or bait anywhere. The river was loaded with party boats but we didn't see any rods moving. The water is still too cold for winter flounder. It was a fun day anyway.
  6. Collinite cleaner, fleet wax and metel polish are the best. A lot of guys are crowing about R-jax (or something like that) but Collinite works so well I'm not changing.
  7. We took our boat for a run off Sandy Hook yesterday. On the way in there was 1 boat in the channel and it was waving a fish net at us. We stopped. To cut the story short; He re-wired the boat himself and dispite 2 batteries on board it wouldn't start The water temp was 40 degrees He had his 70 year old father with him. He didn't have Sea Tow or Boat US and "didn't want to call them". He lived in a town where the property taxes alone are at least $15 to $20k a year so money couldn't have been the probleem; this is New Jersey; but that's another story. He could easily have drifted into the shipping lanes for New York harbor. We towed him to Atlantc Highlands Marina and drove him to pick up his truck. The more I think about this guy the madder I get. He's the kind who could pull a NFL/Tampa stunt.
  8. My son just told me April was too late. Tomorrow's forcast is 65 and sunny, 5 to 8 from the north; we're going!
  9. We feel your pain in NJ. We lost days and 2 fish this season. They are trying to cut and cut untill we can't fish anymore. A Boston Tea Party would just be the beginning.
  10. I certianly agree the press will not tell the true story and in most cases attempt to make the "concealed carry" the bad guy. Interesting we haven't heard more about the story.
  11. Sorry guys ,I disagree. I read the story yesterday on Yahoo. This was a Burger King packed with after school kids around 4:00 pm. The robber came in ,pulled a gun and asked for the money. The concealed carry person drew on the robber and they each opened up! Fortunatly the bad guy was killed and the concealed carry guy took 2 or 3 rounds and is in the hospital. What if a couple of kids were killed or severly injured for life. He should not have drawn on the robber inside the BK unless life was threatened. From what I read there was no immediate signs the robber wanted anything but the money. Let the guy take the loot and shoot him in the parking lot. Please don't put kids in danger. There maybe something that was not in the story requiring the concealed carry guy to draw on the robber, but it was not in the article I read. I;m not against "concealed carry". I'm ex-military and proud NRA member. I just don't think it's a good idea to pull a gun in a crowd. Don't play cowboy with kids lives.
  12. Yo, Broken Wrench, We are at Angler's Marina in Sea Bright and will launch friday for a shake down and maybe chase some stripers. The boat is a 25' Kencraft so we will be out at the Shrewsbury Rocks "reel" soon. A gathering of the "faithfull" is no problem
  13. The first reports are coming in for keeper stripers ( in NJ, 2 at 28") from Cape May. They claim 20 to 30 fish per trip, longest 32" to 36", limits for everyone on the boat. Since our boat is ready to go and still on the trailer, sunday is looking real good!
  14. E-mail and glad they did. Somehow it gets thru the filters at work.
  15. Woody's wax has always been the industry standard. The theory being it's easier to rinse the fish blood from the decks after it's applied. I never used it but just picked up a bottle for a test. It is pricy.
  16. North Jersey. They cut the deal at the Somerset Expo with a smile.
  17. That was quick. Our own forum already. Thank you Wiley.
  18. We just need to wax the boat and re-do the teak. The engine is done. Figure, 2ed week of April in North Jersey.
  19. Ship Shape TV has pushed a product called Poly- Glow. They did an old dark blue Wellcraft on the show and it came out looking new. I believe it's more than a wax/restorer, but something that works into the gelcoat. The poly guy on the show said it wouldn't come out with compound, you had to use his cleaner to get it off so the boat could be repainted. I'm sure Poly-Glow is listed on the Ship Shape TV webb site. The cost of the kit was around $100 for a 23' boat
  20. I cut a deal with my local Tow US guy for $133, inc trailer towing, and I believe a tow up to $750: but we are in the same port. They want your business so deal with the local franchise. This time of year they either write enough business to stay alive or "sink".
  21. Sea Bright/Sandy Hook/Shrewbury and Navisink Rivers.
