  1. Gus, I had a teak platform/ladder on a 79 hull that I refurbished. The teak was filthy with 25 years of exhaust and grime. I almost trashed it but figured I would give it a shot. I used a copper pot scrubber and Methyl ethyl ketone. It really worked. I would not use it on interior teak for obvious reasons but a milder solvent and the copper scrubber may work well for you. 2. Wow. I always think that an IPS drive is asking for trouble.....but my favorite boat is my inboard Fish Nautique...LOL. Any reasonable person would say it is no different if you have the prop forward of the shaft or behind the shaft- if you hit something hard on the bottom it will hurt you.and Props to Sea Vee, one of my all time favorites is the Sea Vee 25 IB, it was a standard setter.
  3. He and his Family will be in our prayers.
  4. I have a 2002 Yukon xl and use it for much the same purposes you described. It is 4x4 with a 350 v8 and does fine. I would buy another. Laird
  5. Speaking of Pffffffffffft ...whe is Surfergirl?
  6. my cuz was exec of one of the attack boats. When it called on Port Everglades we were invited to tour the boat and visit the wardroom. He broke out the attack periscope. The tip was the size of a matchbox and he trained it on the pier 66 motel. It was like being a peeing tom right outside the window....6 stories up.
  7. Dad gum Hotspot is smart! I used ATF instead of PB but the idea is the same. A light penetrating oil and then lots of .410 brush work will fix this. Good luck. Laird
  8. Fire ant killer!!!!!! Put a half gallon on the big mound and light it. Little volcanoes will come up for yards around the main mound.
  9. I am sorry you are having such problems Gus. There is a Bert 42 with new (300 hrs) 6v92's in St. Augustine that has just been reduced ti 115k. That has got to be worth a look. The fact it is in Augustine bodes well...lol http://marinesource.com/boat-details/for-s...L-100388864.cfm
  10. The quantity of posts is impressive but the quality of these posts has a value of it' s own. The posts remind me of something from years gone by.
  11. In 2001 there was an early forum that had wide support. It was sponsored by a magazine. When a advertisers product was trashed THT was born. Reelboaing has the same flavor that the early THT had. Many of the same folks are here. My personal opinion is that we are about 1/2 way there. The critical mass will be 2500 members. the right 2500 members. JMHO. Laird PS Wiley is the "One" who can pull this back together. Laird
  12. Hang some suet cakes around. You will get more woodpeckers also.
  13. I have 3 girls. 2 are grown and off on their own and doing well. They all introduced me to their friends as "This is my Dad, the hyper aggressive barbarian". I remember what I did........ and what I would have done if not for my Dad...lol. Hard manual labor lets a lesson sink in I think.
  14. I have known Rick for 15 years. He is one heck of a fishing guide in Charleston for inshore stuff. I wrote 2 articles about him and mentioned him in maybe a dozen more. I can tell you he is passionate about fishing and has a very well developed sense of right-and-wrong. 8 years ago he took me and a "newbie" out for a 3 hour charter. My friend had never fished in salt water before. My friend caught 4 redfish 32, 32, 36 and 40 inch fish. His attitude was " there is nothing to this redfish business...lol." In addition to my modest efforts Rick has been featured in many of the top fishing mags around. PS...Rick I hope you married that girl because she was HOT!!!! Best regards, Laird
  15. We regularly see 50 lb. Stripers around my cabin on Lake Thurmond. For those not familiar with these lakes Thurmond is the lower of the 3 big lakes in the chain. Hartwell, Russel and Thurmond are impoundments of the Savannah River known for great Striper, Crappie and Largemouth Bass fisheries.
  16. Today was opening day of the delayed harvest waters on the Tuckassegee River. Up until today it was catch and release only. Every rock in the river had a fisherman. One guy limited out in 3 min. Every Range Rover in Atlanta made the trip I think. It was a madhouse. Imagine lobster mini-season with Yuppies.
  17. There was an old PT conversion in Ft Laud back in the late 1970's. It was a beast. It was set up a a Bimini party boat. It was LOUD.
  18. Take your hose and fill one of the holes with water. Take your dog out and dunk her head in the water-filled hole and hold her there for 5 seconds. If she does it again repeat the procedure. she may do it 3 times but will not do it a fourth. This really works.
  19. Last summer we had a great weekend at our lake cabin on Lake Thurmond in SC. Our girls left to go back to college about 3:30 and the cabin was cleaned up before 5:00 and the lake was just beautiful. My wife asked if we should go throw a plug or 2 before we left. The pontoon boat was still in the water so we grabbed a few rods and took off. Sure enough on what was to be the last cast my wife hooked a great largemouth bass. We had no landing net so I lipped it when she brought it to the boat. I wanted a picture of her and the fish and she eagerly grabbed the fine fish just as it decided to escape. A lesser fish would not have had the mass to set the hook that deeply in her thumb. I cut the treble hook off the rapala and threw the fish back. We drove the 3+ hours home and went to her office (she is a doc) where she injected her thumb with novacaine so I could rotate it through. During the entire trip home she gave me a hard time for throwing her fish back.
  20. I gotta admit he had nice taste in boats. Rybo builds them pretty.
  21. Dont worry Wiley. That is the reason we are all here. Laird
