  1. Unit for sale now only on Ebay along with data card programmer
  2. Seperate, no problem. $40.00 for programmer, cd, and 128mb garmin data card. Plus $5.00 shipping if it cost that much.
  3. Garmin 198c for sale. Includes wiring cable for transducer and power. Also think it will hook up to some GPS Antennas. Includes an aftermarket GPS antenna that I bought to make sure the system works. 198c includes world wide data map. No mounting bracket as unit was built in. Works excellent but case looks like crap as was glued into dash using 3m 4600 or 5600 and when I removed it I used the chemical they say to use to break the bond. Trouble is it discolors the plastic case from gray to just about white. Then trying to make it look better I taped it up and sprayed it with silver paint. Looks ok and if really interested I'll send a pic. No transducer, manual or other accessories. Make reasonable offer and will do an immediate buy it now sale through Ebay that will protect us both. Not currently on EBAY.
  4. Have available an older Gramin USB data card programmer I used when I had a 3010c chartplotter systerm. Also, 128mb data card for above. And Blue chart Data Card for SW Florida MUS011R Jul 05 and SW update 010-00427-00 from 2006. Yes charts are old, but I've been using them till last year. Don't know about updating them.
  5. Sunbury has some of the right logic IMHO. I faced the same dilema of having to repower, unfortunately twin 225s, on a hull that was 10 yrs old. If I added new motors I tryed to guess or ask what would the boat be worth after the update. What I discovered was that I could have bought a 2-3 year old model with 4 stroke engines that had only 100 to 250 hours on them along with a new trailer for similar dollars. So I sold the boat "as is, cuz were 2001 optis", added about 5k less than new motors would have cost to repower to what I received for for my old rig and bought a three year old rig with 180 hrs on the motors. It also included updated electronics along with a shiney hull! Just something to consider.
  6. Though I've only two places to logically mount a new my downrigger, once I've got it mounted I have a choice or running it straight down from the transom or extending it over the port side. Any advantages or disadvantanges of either method? Plus anyone use the ION field generator feature on theirs in saltwater?
  7. If I recall correctly the power head on that vintage Mariner is Yamaha but the lower gear casing and components are Mercury. That was true on an 88 40hp that my brother is still running. Suggest mystery oil or some oil put in the cylinders and let set for a few days that might loosen additional corrosion that might exist in upper cylinders. Other than that your plan seems correct.
  8. Talked to SH and they said they would use TACO outriggers, which would be fine. I'm a little confused though on where they mount as it looks like two possible areas. The first is next to the Electronics box where an double aluminum plate with about a 3in diameter hole allows me to see the canvas. However I'm unsure if there is enough space between the box and the Outrigger handle (Model 270 swings out poles) when mounted. The second is another aluminum plate (no holes) further forward of the electronics box that is rectangular and is welded on two sides to intersecting T Top tubes. Considering Taco 270 or 370's if priced correctly. Boat is a 2006 with a fabric top.
  9. USB Data Card Programmer Current PN# shows 010-10776-00 But mine looks a little different. Think mine is older, includes CD and manual. Suggest using Mapsource or getting current versions of Garmin USB drivers. When I updated mine with Mapsource Ver. 6.15.11 and USB drivers 2.7.00 & 2.3.00 everything worked smoother. Data Card 128MB Blue Chart Data Card for SW Florida MUS011r Older Version. Includes an Update Version from 2006. West Coast of Fl and Fl Keys up to Key Largo. Will accept pay pal or can do private sale on Ebay. Will split if necessary.
  10. From reports and now closed fishing it did cause a lot of problems especially on the west coast. In my area Lower Keys, we had kills in the back country (gulf) but nothing like the pictures from up north. The reef was IMHO slightly affected as well as the canals where I've seen floating grouper, mutton snapper and a couple of small barracuda. Only one group down here is happy about it, Birds that must have gotten so fat that they lay around all day as they seem missing from their local perches.
  11. Too bad that Hogsbreath (at least in Key West) is no longer sponsoring the tournament. It's now part of the FKDC or something like that, but some are still calling it Hogsbreath. Info according to Keynoter, so don't blame me! Jan 22-27 Key West Harbour Kingfish Tournament
  12. Yep, xmas gift. Take it out back country in flats and out front. Fast Find McMurdo
  13. You're going to have a couple of issues on many of the Keys trying to rent a home. Monroe County (Keys) has an ordinance that does not allow short term rentals (less than 28 days) for properties that are not hotel/motel properties on many of the Keys. Cudjoe is one unless you rent at Venture Out an RV/Mobile home park. Places to look for weekly rentals of homes would be Marathon/Key Colony Beach, Key West, Key Largo and Islamorada. Check VRBO.com and you'll probably find private owners that will rent illegally, but if you don't create problems with neighbors you'd be ok. Make sure your Oceanside so bridge heights won't make a difference. Don't boat around Cudjoe so cannot comment but most inland canals have cuts to channels that handle reaonable draft boats as long a you stay in the marked channel. LD
  14. After replacing too many floating fuel senders I'm wondering if there is a better option for Digital Merc smartcraft gauges. Names and possible sources would be appreciated.
  15. Have not been of the forum for a while and am glad to see the change where I did not have to log in to view posts. Guess I figured why chime in on issues that do not pertain or no assistance could be rendered. Also was a little perturbed with spam emails that were getting through in the beginning. I'll go with those who like the seperate Electronics forum, it makes sense not to clutter up non pertinent forums. Thanks for the site!
  16. Do all "Tournament Professionals" act like they own the ocean and display poor seamanship? They were in my case a bunch of spoiled jerks with boating skills of a 10 year old. While maintaining a constant heading off Looe Key trolling I had two seperate "tournament fisherman boats" pass me and then turn 90 degrees into my path and begin to pitch to fish. If it happened one time I'd consider it an error in judgement but the same boat did it three times and the other twice. It's not the situation where they were a safe distance ahead and then turned as I had to make course corrections to avoid them. No, they did not pick me out to act this way they did it to others as well. While I cannot prove they were part of the tournament they were not "LOCAL boats" from the Keys according to the names on the stern. As many say down here they must have been from New Jersey (no offense intended). Yes, I understand it's money but perhaps sportsmanship should play a part in what they're trying to accomplish and the tournament directors should be aware of their unprofessional actions. If there is a next time, I'll be sure to get the boat names of the offenders and post them with pictures of their actions as well as ###### to the FWC and Coasties. LD
  17. I FORGOT. If you have State Farm as your auto carrier, CANCEL THEM when they cancel you! I've a feeling since our insurance commissioner is too chicken to kick them out for cherry picking what insurance types to write, if all the poeple in Fl who have State Farm for Auto Coverage told them to get lost they might be willing to stick around.
  18. Since 2004 very few carriers have been writing any business, except ones where you try to find out their ratings and find they don't have Moodys or Standard and Poors ratings only ratings by someone called (Domotec??). My first Domotec rated company (rated as their highest class) was POE insurance. POEs companies went belly up (even without large claims from hurricanes) and were taken over by Citizens so my coverages were with Citizens till my policy was TAKEN OUT and transferred to American Integrity Insurance. They (AII) now writes both my HO3 and wind policy for property in Cape Coral. I did have a claim with them for a burst pipe and was very satisfied with their claims service, but the overall financial stability given they are a new carrier still worries me that they are taking on too much risk in to short a time period. If you are a retired or active military try USAA. If you have a working farm try Farm Bureau. Most other National companies won't give you the time of day. Luckily(??) Citizens does have the authorization to write basic homeowners insurance (like HO 3) coverages as well as Wind (hurricane) so find a good Independent agent and hope for the best though you will probably get stuck with whomever is willing to accept you as a risk. PS in the Keys I have Fidelity and Citizens.
  19. Not trying to get critical of a mfgr but of the practice of charging high prices to replace a battery because it will be exposed to salt water and possibly submerged is IMHO highway robbery. I saw the same scenario for dive computers (not the real old Scubapro mechanical ones) where you had to pay through the nose to get a battery replaced because they said your life depends on it. Your life really could depend on dive computers but factory only battery changes luckily went away and newer computers that function well beyond safe diving depth limits (something that an EPIRB would never see let alone work at) have user replaceable batteries. Ditto for dive lights, underwater cameras and flash units. I've never seen EPIRB warranties but a guess tells me they would leave out warranting a specific part and that it's your responsibility to verify that it's still functional. PS what I've just posted would not preclude me from buying an EPIRB, but the practice of taking advantage of buyers does. They might test the unit as well, but still the price seems high. LD
  20. Usually pull a 30 with 6 to 12 inch of wire, 20ft of mono for stretch and braid, along with the other spread for dolphin. Use it as short rig so it will run under the other lines since I don't have outriggers. Have ended up with kingfish, barracuda when trolling off the reef in 150-600 ft. Closer in (reefs edge) I've attracted Spanish Mackeral, hence the need for wire. One problem I did have is leaving them on the boat last summer and ended up with long cracks in the (painted?? or plastic film) finish that I figure was due to the heat. For grouper you can use pretty much what you want, but I like a mono leader to absorb the shock of a hit when I'm using braid. Use the same scenario when using a 25 or 15. Another rumor I heard is that Manns was sold to someone else and they're not the same now as they used to be. Have no idea if true or not. I also gave a 30 to a friend who uses it to catch large walleye by trolling over deep areas. Not uncommon to get 6-11 lb walleyes.
  21. Starbrite w PFTE. West Marine carries it. Also found it at some Ace Hdwes a little cheaper. LD
  22. Another online site is clubplug.net. For my Opti's (NGK Irridium) they were $12.60, local dealer was $18.00. Have never bought from them (Club plug) as changing plugs on my opti's is not for the faint of heart. Your PN# showed $12.06 ea. LD
