  1. I joined a boat club when we moved to Ft. Myers, so I'm not in the market for another boat. I still go to the annual boat shows; can't think of anything else I'd rather do for a few hours for the price of a movie.
  2. Had a great 2 weeks visit there in the early 80s. Wife and I and 2 sons on our 24' with 2 other boats. Spent most nights on the hook in Honeymoon Harbor; pigged out on fish, conch and lobster. Went into Bimini every 3-4 days for gas & ice. We lived in Miami; about 45 miles - 2 1/2 hrs crossing. Went back a year later; intended to stay a week or more but the weather was going to get nasty so we came home after 4 days. You don't want to cross the gulfstream in a small boat in bad weather. Memorable vacation. I was supposed to go to Jacksonville to interview for a 'sure thing' job. That trip convinced me I didn't want to leave the Miami/Keys boating area, so I cancelled the interview & stayed in Miami another 25 years.
  3. I sold my boat and joined a boat club, so I wanted a portable GPS. I bought a Garmin Colorado 400C that has the coastal charts, but can't find any step-by-step instructions how to use the GPS charts to find position (markers show without numbers unless I place cursor on them) or set course to a position shown or entered on the GPS. I have not used a marine GPS previously. The Garmin manual is little help. I bought the Bennett video - also no direct help on the chart usage. The YouTube videos - no help either. I may figure it out sooner or later, but would like some "For Dummies" level instructions. Any suggestions?
  4. I joined a boat club and use several different boats in SW FLA. I'm looking for a decent GPS that I can take on each boat. The handhelds seem too small, and may not have all the coastal navaids, artificial reefs, etc. The 441S (without the transducer) seems to be a good size, usable on a 'bean bag' type mount. I'd use a lighter plug on the power cord, or maybe a 3-4 amp hr rechargeable battery pack. The current $100 rebate brings the price around $400. What do you think? Comments appreciated.
