  1. Did you ever get an answer to your question? I haven't installed the update yet and won't until I am sure I can continue to get course up. Thanks
  2. I have the LCX 28 HD. I have done all my tech support via email. So far the few issues I had were resolved via email including a digital gauge that went south. A couple of emails explaining the troubleshooting I did and they shipped me a new one and told me to toss the old one. I also got a system upgrade via email before it was posted to the site to fix a problem I had. I had heard the horror stories of hold time on calls and decided to try email. I also have documentation of any communication.
  3. VERY NICE BOAT.

  4. Last year when fixing to leave the parking lot to head home (110 miles) after loading I noticed that I had a hub that was busted. I am not sure what happened. Bearings and seal shot. Either I hit a curb and busted the hub, or the bearings went and busted the hub. I lean toward hitting a hole and dropping on the edge of the hub. Of course this is Sunday night at 9 pm. After some head scratching I jacked up the axle, pulled the tire and used a tie down strap to strap the axle to the frame in the basic position as the other axle. I have a dual axle trailer and in order to get it long enough for my light boat it has approximately twice the load capacity as needed. I pulled it home on three legs with no problems, albeit at 55 instead of 65. I replaced 2 hubs and bearing all around. I now have a spare hub and bearing setup that I can carry in the truck. If I don't bugger up a spindle I can change them in the field. My spindles are welded and not bolted on so that will be a pain at some point. i also get out and check the axles for heat 3 times on the 110 mile trip. They never got hot on the trip down. Like your axles these have the grease zerk at the front and pushes grease from the rear through the bearing to the front. I found that I wasn't pushing enough grease through there and letting the bearing get dry. I now pump the grease through with more vigor.
  5. Great Post. Are you going to head to Alaska again this summer? So far the weather has been much better than last year, (knock on wood). I also like those kayak mounts and may have to try to fabicate something similar.
  6. +1. That is what I use with my 115 Suzi and it works great.
  7. I realize this thread is kind of old but if anyone else has this problem one possible solutions. A friend ran into this and took his unit to a local Lowrance dealer and they performed the update for him. Was a bit of a pain to take time to go to the store but relativelt painless. YMMV
  8. My first boat was a 15' tri hull with a used 1970 70 hp Chrysler I purchased in early 80's. It had no electronics, no tach,no speedo , no bilge pump etc. A motor and a hull. When I got water in it I pulled the plug and kept on step. I was about 23, married with 2 small kids. We spent every weekend at the lake water skiing and drinking beer. It was the cheapest entertainment around. I gave the boat to my son and young brother in law. The boat is still in the family and the motor still runs. I changed one power pack and one carb in 25 years. I replaced all the fuel lines because the disintegrated with age. I also changed the lower end lube a total of 3 times. I just didn't know any better. The only maintenance I did was run the carbs dry everytime I put it on the trailer. I never even changed the water pump.
  9. Where are you running this weekend? Where in Alaska are you located?
  10. I built a 24' Tolman Skiff, hence the user name. My wife's first name is Crystal and my daughters middle name is Dawn, so I named the boat after the two women in my life. I love to see the first light of day when every thing is crystal clear. That is easier to do in the winter than the summer in Alaska.
  11. I have had one for a year and unlike my epirb I use it all the time. I got it for non life threatening events. I boat in Alaska and am often out of cell coverage. If the weather turns while I am 50 miles from port I send my wife an OK message and she knows where I am and assumes I am OK and will be staying put until the weather gets better. This helps ensure there is no search started because of weather delays. I always have a weeks worth of suplies when going out. I also ask my son to send messages throughout the day when he takes my boat out and I am stuck at work. It is nice to know all is well. If I have a non life threatening emergency the need help button allows my wife to know where I am and that I need her to call sea tow or a buddy. So far I haven't needed to use it. I have 2 other boating buddies on my list. Seeing my location allows some idea of the help needed. If I am in a protected cove they know I am broke down but OK for a day or so. If I am in the middle of nowhere send someone quick. In the event I use 911 I have a second recovery option. I also use it when hiking, camping or road trips. Having a way to let my wife know all is well allows her to relax. When she is relaxed I get to stay longer and more often I like the spot. It is a great tool to add to your arsenal if you are often out cell coverage. I sent this from a blackberry so my typing and spelling may be crap.
