Air Conditioner Seacock Option

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I recently installed an AC unit in my Grady Marlin. The question I have is would you recommend a separate seacock or can I share one with the wash down pump seacock? I know I would need to put in a check valve so the air conditioner pump will not suck air through the wash down. I also would not be using both pumps at the same time.

Just something about drilling extra holes in the boat I don't care for.

Thanks!

LB

if you dont plan on using both pumps at the same time, it should be no problem. its probably a 3/4' seacock? if you plan on using it while tied up at a marina, get a strainer to inline with it (before your checkvalve). washdowns a lot of times dont have one..

Your plan should work. My opinion is I trust another properly prepared through hull with a seacock than I do a check valve. It's pretty rare that a boat sinks due to through hull problems. Hoses and clamps fail and fall off or break, pumps can leak, etc, but it's very rare to have a problem with a through hull if it is installed right and exercised.

Thanks for the input guys. I have a strainer for the AC but relocating it for both sounds like a great idea.

Two things. First, call Grady White and talk to customer service. They are very helpful and may be able to zero in on your issue. Second, check out or post your question on the great grady forum.
