Hull Integrity

I am looking for a new inspection hatch to cover my bilge under the motor and Iam leaning towards the Bomar types, any suggestions? The current one is about 13 x 23 inches and SUCKS! I recently pulled it up and filled all the screw holes with epoxy/cabosil and then rebedded it with bolts to no avail. So now I am looking for a new hatch that is not "water resistant" but water tight. Like I said the current one is 13x23 inches and I have maybe an inch to go bigger in either direction but not smaller. For this reason I dont thing the Armstrong plate will fit. Any help would be great thanks.

Just replaced the hatch on my deck, used one from Innovative Product Solutions, hasn't leaked a single drop, and they have the exact size you need. When you install any hatch, make sure the mounting flange does not get distorted if the surface you are mounting to isn't flat, that will increase the potential for leaks.

IPS just bought out and merged the Jim Black line into theirs, which we have been using for years. Excellent, and well-engineered products.

My boat has IPS hatches (all of the original hatches) I think the quality is equal, but I like the latch better on the Tempress....They're cammed (sp?) and they just pull down tighter.

Rich,

So the feeling is of greater compression when you fold down the pulls?

Noticed the Jim Black line when I looked at the website earlier, very happy with the IPS hatch so far, didn't leak a drop when I blasted it with the hose from the side and also with all the rain we've had.

Rich, agreed about the cam action pulling tighter. Reason why I went with the IPS was the location of the seal, it's on the top of the mounting flange and seals right at the deck and over the mounting screws rather than sealing against the lower lip of the hatch lid. This would block water from collecting against the seal and possibly dripping through with no place else to drain. Would like to have gotten a Beckson as they have a double seal, one on top of the flange and one on the lower lip, didn't have the size I needed....
