I've seen a few LEO's that took hits with their vests and it is definitely NOT like on TV!

One of our guys was hit with a 12ga centered in the chest which was fired thru an entry door. He retired out from the injuries. His chest still looks like hamburger where the scars are.

Yeah, depending on where you are hit, broken ribs, massive bruising, etc...

The shock plate helps, but you might get burned from the heat that is generated.

The vests are designed to prevent penetration from the round, but they usually don't prevent impact damage.
