VHF choices

I am Looking to Add a VHF I have been verry Happy with my Icom 502 so I have been thinking about a Icom 504 But the STANDARD HORIZON GX2100B WITH BUILT IN AIS looks like a nice unit I like the Idea of AIS But the bottom line is how do the radios compare ? as that is the most important part .

Also open to other makes models

I'd go with Standard Horizon. I replaced my 502 that had issues, with a 504. No problems at all with the 504 but dealing with Icom CS on the 502 was frustrating and they never resolved the issue. SH makes great stuff. AIS is nice to have if you operate near a major port.

do you have or used the SH GX2100B ? hows it compare to the 504 ? how did the 504 compare to the 502? ( I am using the 502 now no issues )

Sea//Tow Charleston and I have had problems with ICOM.

Go with STANDARD HORIZON. When I buy a new one it will be a S.H.

What Icom did you have issues with ?

My 502a would just "lock up", power it off and power it back on and it would work again for hours or just minutes. The 504 interface is excellent compared to the clunky 502a. I have not used the SH you mention but I do use other models. Go SH and you won't be disappointed.

I heard of issues with the 502 The 502A was suppose to be the fix . I had good luck with my 502 (A?) . I normally don't this much trouble making a choice . maybe I should by both LOL

Just a up date I am leaning more to the Icom right now .

The 504 is the one I have had replaced, and Sea//Tow has had problems with the 604 and the 504

Rick your first one I have heard to have issues with the 504 ,I heard a lot on the 502 but on till your post nothing bad on the 504 or 604 . I did order the 504 this afternoon before I read you last post . If the 504 works as well as the 502 I have I will be happy ,if I have any issues its gone I don't fool around when it comes to a VHF thats why I am adding a second unit on the upper helm that will make 3 fixed mount VHFs
