98 'Rude 150 OP hot side - cold side

When I run my 98 150 Ocean Pro hooked up to the back of the motor where i unscrew the pee hole plug and screw in a garden hose I can rest my hand on the left side of the block and it is cool enough to leave it on there. If I put my hand on the right side it is so hot that I have to pull my hand away after the motor heats up.

So I shut the motor down and pulled the thermostat covers. The right side I can see water flowing from the watersleeve out to the thermostat housing and down the water sleeve but when I open the right side no water. If i stick my finger in the left side hole for the thermostst the water will run on the right (hot) side but pull finger out and no water again.

Couple of notes - Had a new water pump installed end of last year. I had milky oil due to a badly installed water pump a couple years ago where the gasket was pinched and water was running into the lower unit gearbox.

I just noticed the hot side cold side issue and have not run the motor submerged to see if it occurs with the lower unit under water. Will try this weekend when I get a sec to run it to a ramp.

Is there a gasket somewhere that is leaking so I am not getting full pressure? Or is it just cuz Im running on the hose?

Have the thermostats in the motor been tested for proper opening temperature?

You cannot troubleshoot an overheating problem by using the hose fitting or a flusher muff. As you said, wait until the boat is in the water and floating.
