Hydra-Sports question

Recommended Posts

I have asked questions like this before on a similar site and was mildly(?)scourned for asking redundant and apparently

silly questions. I was also told I should have not bothered them and just searched archives instead. Hopefully, a few of you will not mind my ignorance and offer some advice.

I have seen a Hydra-Sports 23 foot Sea Horse, year 2000, with a 200hp Johnson outboard on it. I know the vector series is apparently their hardcore fishing machine, but I do not think I will need something that serious. I just plan to go in the James River and the Chesapeake Bay and maybe, only maybe, the early part of the ocean.I am not a hardcore fisherman, but I do love to go on decent days. I have been on friends boats in the bay quite a few times and realized that most of the time you can go out in flat conditions and come back in some rough stuff.

So I guess what I need to know is, how does the Sea Horse compare to other boats. I mean, is it more like a Proline, a Sea Hunt, a Cobia,or is it more of a lower tier boat. I know it is not built as strong as the vector, but is the quality of the boat good other than that? I also think that the deadrise is not as deep as the vector series, but not sure. And are there any other differences that I should be aware of?

If anybody has any experience with this boat and wouldn't mind sharing some info with me I would appreciate it.

Im not an expert by any means but a buddy of mine has the same boat and loves it. Does he want something bigger, faster, more fishable, yeah WHO DOESNT. The one main difference i know in the sea horse and vector series besides deadrise was the hardware. They use plastic fittings and I cant remember if his thru hulls were plastic or not.? If they are plastic this would be my only concern, especially below or near water line. As far as a comparable boat i would say Sea Fox/Sea Era (in the same model years 1999-2001), Pro-Line might be a little bit better product never rode on one. As far as how will it perform in your area I have no idea someone from that area can chime in. In this economy get what you can afford and go take your family out and have a great time.

Thanks to both of you for the info. The price is what makes it so attractive. This is not the best boat on the market, but at half the cost of other boats of this size, it may be worth it as a starter boat. Thanks again for the info.
