Furuno NavNet VX2 - Very slow re-draw

Recommended Posts

I was hoping someone might be able to help point me in the right direction. Lately the processors on my two Furuno NavNet VX2 systems have been very slow to re-draw after I give it a command. For example, if I am in plotter mode and I want to change the scale from 4 miles to 8 miles, it might take a solid 30 seconds for it to show me what I want. Something is obsiously not right and I'm hoping this is just something simple (good luck, I know!).

Here's the specs of the system if it helps. Two separate Furuno NavNet 10.4" displays (each with its own separate GPS antenna), 6KW radar with open array antenna, 1KW BBFF bottom machine, Sirius Satellite Weather with its own receiving antenna, and a TR1 autopilot tied in. The whole system is networked and interphased so I have the ability to put any display on either screen at any time.

If anyone has any ideas on what might be slowing the re-draw down, I'd greatly appreciate any advice you can offer.

Thanks!

Dave

Dave,

Hello, my name is Brandy Power and I am writing from Jeppesen Support. I am hoping to provide you with an overview of the potential problem and offer some assistance.

I would first like to inquire if you are currently using a C-MAP chart in the Furuno vx2 and what the is the chart code(ex: NA-MXXX.XX).

With the release of Jeppesen’s Spring MAX library, certain chart file sizes have increased due to added chart detail and port information. This increase in file size may result in a slower redraw time in the Furuno NavNet vx2 chart plotter. Affected chart titles include NA-M022.09 and NA-M033.09.

Please note that Furuno is aware of the issue and is working with Jeppesen engineers to soon release new software which will support the C-MAP by Jeppesen MAX chart library updates.

For the interim, Jeppesen has made available a custom C-MAP MAX card. The custom chart code CU-M022.09 has replaced the Spring 2010 release of code NA-M022.09 (US East Coast and Bahamas). The CU-M022.09 contains the latest cartographic data and Notice to Mariner (NTM) updates, but new panoramic photos have been removed to allow for faster redraw times on the Furuno vx2 units. Please note that the custom card requires the current vx2 software version 3.04.

If you are using either the NA-M022 or NA-M033 C-MAP MAX chart, then please contact our Sales Department for exchange to the custom title (800.424.2627).

If you are already using the ‘custom’ card and are still experience the slow redraw, then I would ask you to check which version software is currently installed within your vx2 units. This information can be found within the unit by going to < Menu - System Configuration - System Setup - Test & Clear - Memory I/O Test - Display Unit Test>. The latest software version which supports the custom card is v3.04.

I hope this information has helped and please do not hesitate contacting me directly, if you need assistance or have additional questions and/or concerns.

Best regards,

Brandy Power
