My marine air P500 ac pump failed. Does any one know why they fail. It seems to be fail proof as a magnetic motor. Its draws 2.1 amps but will not turn the impeller. The impeller turns ok. Just wondering why they fail. Thanks for any input.

I have found any sort of grit even the smallest piece of shell stops it. have you looked for debris

I had one fail, and when I took it apart I found that the magnet attached to the impeller had fractured and tiny pieces had jammed it. Replaced just the impeller (after thoroughly cleaning the cavity it sits in) and I was back in business.

The last one I had fail was about 5 years old and a bearing went. The housing and impeller were fine, the motor just started to bind.

90% of the time they fail from running with loss of prime or when barnacles obstruct the impeller. also, they must be mounted below the water line of course.. they are one of the most reliable pumps in that size range though.

THANK S FOR THE REPLY I CALLED THE FACTORY AND THEY SAID I NEEDED A NEW WET END , WHICH COST AROUND $120. SO I JUST BOUGHT A NEW PUMP. THE LESSER OF TWO EVILS. THANKS AGAIN.
