My Army buddy tried to teach me to surf at Haleiwa Ali' in November of 1995 the first week I got the the islands, the waves were only 10'. Nearly killed me. Won't try surfing anytime ever again. Worst part there were 10 year old kids out there making it look easy. Further up the road we would watch the 30+ footers in Dec-Feb crash in Waimea Bay. The mist from the waves would sometimes close the road there. Impressive to watch waves that big.
