New boat question

I just purchased a new 2009 boat. Origin doc includes engine, but the engine serial number is not listed. I noticed when I got home with the boat that the outboard has a manufacture date of 2007. Is this unusual?

If you live in a state that does not register/title the engine it might not be customary. You should have it listed in the purchase and sales paperwork though so you can register the warranty.

Not unusual at all.

The manufacturing date of the engine has nothing to do with the year of the boat. In April of 2005 when Yamaha had surpassed the emission standards of 2015 they were not required to have any more model years so whatever year the boat is sold is the year the engine becomes.

The only reason for model years was to keep up with what models meet the emission standards .

First YAMAHA, then followed by MERCURY, HONDA and just now, SUZUKI have "born dates" instead of year model. At first a little confusuing, but not a big deal.

Except when you need parts! I have to occasionally look at the 2005 chapter of my factory manual for my 2006 Suzuki DF140 because it was actually built in the last quarter of 2005.
