Dear Abby,

I've never written to you before, but I really need your advice. I have suspected for some time now that my wife has been cheating on me. The usual signs are phone rings, but if I answer, the caller hangs up..

My wife has been going out with "the girls" a lot recently, although when I ask their names she always says, "Just some friends from work, you don't know them.."

I always try to stay awake to look out for her coming home, but I usually fall asleep. Anyway, I have never approached the subject with my wife. I think deep down I just didn't want to know the truth, but last night she went out again and I decided to really check on her..

Around midnight, I decided to hide next to the garage behind my boat so I could get a good view of the whole street when she arrived home from a night out with "the girls". When she got out of the car she was buttoning up her blouse, which was open, and she took her panties out of her purse and slipped them on.

It was at that moment, crouching behind the boat, that I noticed that there were some hairline cracks in my gelcoat, right where the hull meets the transom of my boat.

Is this something I can fix myself or should I take it over to the boat yard to have it repaired?

They might just be surface stress cracks. If he has any skill with resin he should put a coat over the cracks and see if they come back. Then he'll know if he has a real problem or not.

If he has a transom problem he's not going to be able to use the boat for a while, especially if he tries to do it himself. Every body I know who started that as a DIY ended up expanding the project and were 'on the beach' for a season or two.

I don't know why anyone would ask "Dear Abby" this question. I've read her column for generations (lol) and I've never read anything to indicate that she, or her mother, has ever owned a boat. I'm just saying...

I'd like to help but first I need some more info. Were you driving it too hard or did you neglect it? There's always a reason for the problem. If you know the reason then you have a better chance of fixing the problem.

You could certainly fix the cracks in the boat. The crack walking up the drive is a whole other problem. You should probably trade that one in for a new model, if you can afford it.

Oh, sorry. I only answerred half the question, didn't I?

Hey, divorce is expensive and if you start the process you have to pay all the bills. Let her get it out of her system. Use the cash you'd have spent entertaining her or buying seasonal gifts, to fix/replace that boat. She's got a sugar daddy for now so you really don't need to let her get double dipped. In short I think that problem is going to go away eventually so don't waste any more time worrying about it.

Let us know how it turns out. Pictures are always nice!

PS: In the mean time try to keep the pounding to a minimum until you know exactly how you are going to resolve that issue.
