Ford F250 cutting off

I have a 2002 Ford F250 with 7.3 diesel with 180,000 miles. In the past I've noticed that sometimes the truck would cough very quickly and then go on. When I say cough I mean it's like you lose total power for a fraction of a second.

Just now I slowed to make a right hand turn and it did it again only this time it shut off completely. I put it in nuetral and it started back up with no further problems.

Anyone have this problem?

The first (and only) thing that comes to mind is the cam position sensor. A friend had a similar problem with his '01 and when it finally died that was the cause. Apparently not that expensive of a part and fairly easy to change.

cam sensor, if yours hasn't been replaced before there is a recall on it, free fix at your local dealer. Go ahead and get a spare to keep in your glove box, you only need a 10mm socket to change it out.

I have a recall notice on my '02 7.3 diesel. My regular mechanic said this should be done soon, I just have not made it to dealership yet! Thanks for the reminder!

Get your dealer to check on the recall for you, all they need is your VIN, key it in Oasis and it will tell if there is a recall, I know there is one out and if your sensor has never been changed it would be a free repair at your local Ford diesel dealer.

I just received a recall notice for the cam sensor. Headed to Koon's Ford in Annapolis Monday morning. Thanks for all the input.
