On the West Coast we had smelt that spawned like that out of Crescent City Calif I have seen whales up close to shore getting them. As a kid I seen Tolowa Indians and others dip net them and smoked them on the beach with beach wood they tasted good

I've seen that in the Outer Banks. Huge Rockfish pushed them up. Great fishing for a couple of hours.

I remember seeing something similar,on a huge scale, when I lived in South Africa.

Down there they call it the SARDINE RUN, huge schools of sardines move up the coast on the indian ocean side, with predators after them in the water - during the sardine run the local authorities lift the shark nets that protect the entire coastline.

Then there are the birds and finally, lots of people on the beaches with buckets!

Seen this a couple of times in Delaware. Actually, at night I smelled it first----strong fish smell, then shine the light to see big stripers and/or bluefish chowing down.
