Video camera help

Recommended Posts

Hey DJ I think I'm digging the JVC in blue, but not just because of the blue. Saw it on Amazon when I did the search.

Blue to match the boat by chance? I will reply to the questions on this particular camcorder in this reply, but the next reply will be on additional blue camera's!

Before reading the following open this address up: http://resources.jvc.com/Resources/00/01/14/LYT1982-002B-M.pdf

(This is the manual for the camcorder)

Looking at the stats it seems you can use it as a still shot camera as well....I like that so we don't have to carry two cams.

Yes it can be done, read page 21 of the owners manual.

But does the video store only on the hard drive or can it be stored on an external card? I couldn't locate that info.

Yes you can store to the hard drive, read page 19 of the manual. I am not sure how much video you can record; it depends on the size of the card.

Here is what I wish to avoid......the need to hook the cam to the computer to extract video. I can't stand having things hooked to the computer. It seem like every time I try this I have major problems. You should see what I did to the last fax/copy machine that ran off the computer...ever see the movie Office Space? LOL ...Now I have an old fasion stand alone manual fax.

I did see the movie, and totally understand. While I mainly focus on Home Audio/Video, I do tons of things besides this and my main goal is to make things simple and easy for my customers. Allthough the computer is the best way to edit videos/pictures you can eliminate it with the following.....

Also JVC makes this Jewel http://store.jvc.com/product.asp?Model=CU-VD3US

This will allow you to skip the computer, and burn straight to a DVD.

Let me know what you think. I will be happy to buy the cam from you and shoot a fellow forum brother a little biz even if you have to charge me MSRP.

I appreciate the business, and hopefully I will be able to charge you below MSRP. See the following thread ( It will take a little bit for this ) for some additional cameras that may benefit you.

Also I can get you the accessories too, such as the SD cards, cases, extended warranties ect...

Thank You,

David Williams

Ok Chris the above camera is what you like, but I am going to add some other camcorders (in blue to match the boat and the baby :D ) that JVC make's. I just want to make sure you get what you want. If you have any questions on these just let me know; because I want to make sure you get what you want/need. Please do not hesitate to ask questions. Congratulations on the NEW BABY!!! Lots of memories are getting ready to be recorded!!!

Doing some reading on these cameras. So far I like the JVC GZHM200AUS Hi Def Everio Digital Camcorder - Sapphire Blue for the recording to dual SD cards. This way I can fill the cards, date them and put them away for future viewing. Plus it seems to have some other nice features.

This method gives me the option to record and play later without a DVD player. I don't even own a DVD player if you can believe that. With all the channels and On Demand I get with DTV who needs a DVD player.

Chris,

There are several different options regarding the SDHC cards. I am enclosing a link to better explain the recording times. Just let me know what size cards you think you will need. I have access to all brands that are recommended.

Also if you want to use the Ultra recording mode, a Class 6 card is required.

How would you rate these two cameras? I bought one in the 1st link for the Admiral, mostly to video the grandkids. Bought the second one for the boat. UPS just dropped them off yesterday. I haven't even opened the carton yet, but will in the next few days. Are these decent, or should I return them for something better?

Keep the non water resistant model. No need for 2. 2MP still images are same resolution as iPhone, 1st generation...Happy snaps at best. Stay away from spray, keep it dry and you should be ok. If you buy an extended warranty as I did, ask the sales rep if it cover water damage/corrosion. Mine didn't and I got screwed by Best Buy after they told me it was "unconditional".
