Best Cell phone/reception around the MS Barrier Islands?

I need a new cell phone, and possibly carrier. I have AT&T service, and an OLD Nokia 3120. I get NO reception when out at the Barrier Islands in MS sound.

I need opinions of those who have good experience with their phones/carriers. I heard Cellular South has good reception out there (but do they also have good coverage elsewhere in the country?)

I do have a handheld VHF, and don't go more than a couple miles south of the islands; but a good cellphone signal would be an added safety feature!

So, if you have good reception out at the barrier islands, who's your carrier, AND - what cell phone model are you using?

I have Cell South for my personal phone and AT&T for work. I get the best coverage overall with cell south. The phone is a standard Samsung, and I get pretty good reception all around Cat island, but not much further south. My AT&T phone is a blackberry, and I lose reception once I get on the other side of the island. Even when fishing the Biloxi Marsh I get a signal every once in a while with cell south, but rarely with AT&T.

Cellular South has more towers near the beach I'm good to cat then it gets spoty.

i got att and a samsung and after 11-12 miles it gets spotty. after grand pass it's spotty. cat island i still get call but staticy sometimes still not bad.
