C-Map chips/charts

Recommended Posts

Can anyone give me their opinions/experience with these? I am looking at a GPS that uses these, and I am sure which type to get. I am aware of Navtronics, but not C-Map. If I could ask what type of chip you have. We do mostly 50/50 fishing/cruising in the Chesapeake bay.

Thanks in advance.

Kevin

My (older) Raymarine chartplotter uses the C-Map NT+ chips.

The chip I have for the Great Lakes is very good. The chip I have for the Upper Mississippi is just okay.

C-Map is owned by Jeppesen (now a Boeing company). There is an interesting comparison of electronic chart formats here:

I had C-Map on my last boat and C Map Max on my new VX-2 stuff. I like it and they have good customer service when I have needed to transfer points and have help with computer to plotter. I like the PC Planner software a lot for referencing your data on the computer. It has proven to be very accurate both inshore in the ICW and offshore.
