NMEA Multi plexer

I need one of these for my Raymarine/Icom system. Can I use this one?

I spoke to Noland and they said that one will work, but now I can't find one for sale. Anyone?

We have the full Noland Line-Up - http://www.boemarine.com/searchresults.asp...archText=noland

I can't imagine where you will need a multipexer on a small boat though. Most big boats don't even need them.

What are you calling small :o

This is my setup

ICOM 504

Raymarine C120 w/ radar

Smart heading sensor

I was told, that because the C120 only has one MNEA port, I will need a multi plexer to receive 2 way comms for DSC.

This is what I was told by the person that sold me the NMEA switch plate

"Ok, you have some choices to make, as we have run into the achilles heel of the C-series, as it has only 1 nmea input. The fast (10hz) heading has to come in on the NMEA input, as even though there will also be heading data on seatalk from it, it doesn't update fast enough. the C-series only has one nmea input, and that was going to be used for the Icom's nmea output so you can get the DSC position polling information on your c-series. you can't run 2 inputs to the same inout channel unfortunately. You can, however, run them to a box called a multiplexer, that sorts them out, buffers them, and combines them into a cohesive sentence string."

You would definitely need a multiplexer to bring in 2 nmea sources like that. The pile on my desk is too big to do any serious head scratching right now, but you might also consider bring the dsc into Seatalk via Raymarine's NMEA/Seatalk converter which will cost a lot less than a multiplexer.

I am not sure if Seatalk supports DSC though (this is where the head scratching stops), but give Raymarine a call to see 800-539-5539.

Another alternative is to bring the DSC in using nmea2000. Do you already have a nmea2000 network set up? If so you can convert the Icom data to nmea2000 using an actisense or Simrad converter like this one - http://www.boemarine.com/Products/SIM24005936/Default.aspx

Of course you'll want to connect with Simrad tech support to make sure this will carry DSC data.

.... or buy a Multiplexer
