Repairing Replacing Composite Stringers, Bulkheads

Recommended Posts

I spoke with Scott a while back and ended up buying the TA custom product for stringer replacement in my Bertram 20.

The project is not finished, but I am impressed with the product. From a cost perspective, I found this to be less costly than corecell, coosa, etc.

Here are a few pictures:

I first had to scribe the end to match the angle of the transom.

Put a fresh grind on the hull bottom to make sure that everything was smooth and there wasn't anything sticking up.

Put down a really wet layer of mat underneath where the stringer would lay.

Soaked the base of the stringer and put in place. Really quite easy. Measuring and making sure that the two would be centered and parallel took more time than actually glassing it in.

When the rear two section are in, I will remove the rest of the sole and finish off with the stringers.

After all sections are in, I will lay another layer of 1708 over the stringers and a 3" tape of uni along the top.

Here are a few pictures:

My wife picked up three more of them from you on Thursday afternoon. They are easy to cut and save a lot of work. On my next boat I'll definitely use the stringer system as well.

Thanks,

Mark Galloway<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Hi Mark

Thank you for the feedback and the posting on the project forum. It really helps when people can see others use the product. As I said on the forum you are skilled at composites, nice work !

Happy that this worked out well for you and on the next boat lets discuss using our new PRISMA TA product for the stingers. These are 3" thick and produced to your height and dead rise angle. So a lot less customizing on your part.

Thank you again !

Do you have anythint for the Formula 233 yet? I'm getting ready for stringers and i wanted to use your product (Prisma TA).

The beauty of the TA system is that you tell them the height, the deadrise and how much glass you want. That's it.. pretty simply.

On my Bertram 20, I am only replacing the stringer up to the forward bulkhead. In my hull, this portion of the boat had constant deadrise. No need for scribing, etc.

Gotta get some grinding done in tomorrow!

Ian.
