  1. Have you had a chance to look at any of the photo storage sites? I've had mixed results from sabiki's I've made. Made some of these (crappie jigs) .. have to test.
  2. Hey NC Wiley walked me through the picture posting process a few years back on his old site, should be some info on here some where. I'd like to see some of the bait rigs you're having good luck with.
  3. Anyone making their own Sabiki type bait rigs ... flies / perch jigs / etc?
  4. Boomer and I are going down mid week ... staying a week.
  5. I also use glue on some braids that are not coated / colored, it can't penetrate the waterproof coating for a good bond. I have a new knot I'm testing that holds a good weight test but have to test under actual fishing conditions. I wouldn't put glue on it because it needs to bend when going through rod eyes and on the reel.
  6. Any Knot connection between any two types of line is sufficient if it's stronger than the reels max drag. I like to test line / knot strength prior to spooling to see if it's adequate for the purpose. A person should use what he's comfortable with.
  7. Glad you're having good luck with the knot Gary, a person should use what he's comfortable with. I also use about 5' leaders for jigging and throwing poppers but I try to keep knot strength up to around the reels max drag in case I have to slow down a hard running fish before he spools me ... in rod holder or by hand. Red
  8. Gary, What type knot are you using for boat braid and did you test it? I spooled 5 reels last year with 70 lb and had knots slip at 25 lbs using a 7 wrap uni knot, I modified the uni and got it to lock in ... boosting it to 45 lbs. A double line uni probably would have worked but the knot would be twice as big. I'm trying Samurai braid for more line capacity on spinning reels, it's advertised as stronger / thinner and this seems to be true after a few tests i've done. Red
  9. Anyone using or testing (55 or 70 lb) Samurai Braid?
  10. Good luck with the bikini's ... I don't think we'll be having that option over here. http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/index.shtml
  11. Yep ... looks like we'll be getting some serious storms behind this low pressure. http://www.goes.noaa.gov/HURRLOOPS/gulfvs.html http://www.meteo.psu.edu/~gadomski/SAT_GULF/anim8ir.html

  16. I can see where people may have a problem with 55 lb Samurai braid with it's small 10 lb mono dia. It cuts through itself like a fillet knife at about 25 lb on a single strand 7 wrap uni knot ... you have to double it. Very impressive tests on the 70 lb - 14 lb mono dia ... may be my new 'Go to Line'.
  17. It works ... I've pulled a few fishing Kingfish Tournaments over the years. http://redphillips.zoomshare.com/files/3/4...deos_3/fish.wmv
  18. Well ... the Daiwa Samurai braid came in today ... looks like I got a good batch. Did a 45 lb dead weight line/knot test on the 55 lb a few times ... that's enough for me. My stradic 8000's with upgraded washers will only reach about 40 lbs of drag. I'll test the 70 lb tomorrow to see if it's a bad batch.
  19. Advection Fog Advection fog often looks like radiation fog and is also the result of condensation. However, the condensation in this case is caused not by a reduction in surface temperature, but rather by the horizontal movement of warm moist air over a cold surface.
  20. We're going down 1'st week in June for 7 days ... Just have to take what's giving inside or outside.
  21. Rick .... I had no problems with my old Penn, Ugly Stick and Fenwick rods made in the US. After they went to china about 7 yrs ago we had an IGFA Penn 50 ($$) 'pop' like a toothpick with 20 lbs of preset drag on it. The charter boats at Venice were also trashing Penn Tuna Sticks at the time. Maybe they're better now but you only get one shot at me. Shamano's seem to be holding up pretty good .... except a few bad reports on some subbed out to Malaysia. I would use Lu's Shimano Tallus in a heartbeat .... I see what it can do .... just looking for something a little liter. Rick .... Did you check out this thread? http://reelboating.com/forums/?showtopic=1066
  22. They may be good ones if they're made here, everyone I know had problems with the Chinese made. Try'em, let us know. The CarbonTex drag washers came in for the Stadic 8000 ... boosted drag 30%. The Samurai Braid is coming in a day or two ... i'll test then.
