    Just faced a similar decision a few weeks ago, brought on because my 2005 VW was killing me on repairs.My daily commute is 94 miles round trip.

    Here in Fl., the best I could do on a TDI was 25,900 out the door. Prius was 27,400 out the door.

    So, I looked a little further out of the fuel mileage box and wound up with a brand new 2011 Honda Accord 4 door LX for 20,700 out the door. Roomier than the Prius or Jetta, and over the first 2000 miles of ownership I'm averaging 34 MPG on 95% highway/ 5% city driving

    I also took into consideration the 10% premium diesel commands over gas and the fact the batteries in hybrids eventually need replacement.

    I'm still not convinced diesels or hybrids make good economic sense.

    Was your 2005 a TDI? Were the repairs any more expensive than another brand?

    Turbos are less expensive than hybrid batteries. 12-15 more mpg must be factored in also.

    In the past year or so after not having flown for a while I've taken three flights. One domestic and two international.

    What happened to professionalism on the U.S. flagged airlines?

    To compare I noticed the on board appearances and demeanor of the cabin crews were far superior on the foreign flagged airlines as opposed to ours. The uniforms were just that...uniform. The personnel was trim, neat and pleasant in stark contrast to the U.S. airlines.

    I remember when all the foreign airlines used ours as a role model.

    What happened?

    We all see it and wish that it would not go on. Any normal person looking at most of this thinks how pathetic and lack of substance of any contribution. In all reality who cares what happened somewhere else. But to air out on another form? It is truly obvious that some of you don't like each other, exchange each other emails and move on and leave the rest out of it. Grown MEN! I hate to see how you treat your children or grandchildren. You want to come get some, I live in Texarkana Tx we can meet right after school by the swing set Most here have no idea what this feud is about including myself . News FLASH we truly don't care and just want it gone. or take it to the next level amongst yourself privately.But then I guess you could not PM each other saying look what I told him, or look what he said, she said

    I posted this for those who seem to get their undies in a wad. As I stated before if I am attacked I will counter. This has been the case here and 'there'. If that is a problem for any of you (plural) then take it up with a moderator. If you care to do the research on any of the threads which 'offend' you (plural) it will be obvious that I have not been the aggressor.

    Now Tim I ask you again. Are the statements I highlighted directed to me?

    I haven't flown to Florida in recent years, I usually drive because I stay for an extended period but I took a quick trip down last week, rented a car at MIA and left for the Keys.When I drive I always bypass Miami on the way and after this trip I will continue to do so. Ill mannered inconsiderate folks, non-English speaking is commonplace and if they are speaking English you can't understand them, surly service personnel and the Third World style of driving all contribute to Miami, once a beautiful, vibrant city, now being a dump. Those @#$%^&* Haitian cab drivers have no regard for any traffic rules and police presence is sketchy at best and.....I guess you get the picture.

    It's really a shame, I remember going there in the mid 50's and early 60's and even up to 20 years ago. Quite a contrast now!2261_high.gif
