All things being equal as in price and room plus the options. Then paying 60 cents or more for fuel means that there is no "payback" for the non extra price of the diesel. Now you have to look at when the tip over point where the TDI becomes a better buy than anything else in your shopping category. In my own opinion if paying extra for the diesel is not a big deal buy the TDI as it fits your driving style better than the Prius. This info is based on one of our first choices about driving it long distance.
I agree TDI it shall be.

It is almost 60 cents a gallon difference in MO. But those TDI's are not THAT exepnesive are they?
No a Jetta TDI can be had for 24k. That's not a bad price.

Let me put this 'out there' to reiterate.
I do not entertain what the above poster has to say. I made myself clear about him early on. His sole mission here (check his post history) is to stalk and attempt to annoy me because of the many bitch slappings (as you can see he deserves) I administered to him on the 'other site'. He is a terminal idiot and in a way his and the others stalking of me cements the fact that they have been thrashed soundly. Now they snipe at me like mewing little girls. I am glad my efforts were rewarded.

You may want to take a look at the new Passat TDI. Same fuel mileage as the Jetta but so much more comfortable.

My little '88 Jetta runs like a top, no, not diesel, but I wish she had a 4 speed auto tranny. Turns 3900 at 75 MPH...
Right around 25 MPG, but I have a heavy foot off the line...

Most folks that own VW's have mostly positive things to say but as in all cars ya never know.

I've pretty much dropped the Prius from consideration but the Jetta TDI is still on the radar.
