  1. Have the carbs cleaned. I have the same engine and did just that this year. runnign smoother and way less smoke on startup.
  2. Dont have one. On LIS only these days. I have a built in VHF and a waterproof Handheld that I keep in a ditch bag with flares and andthing I bring on board each day. If I were running offshore, I would have one.
  3. BTW, I just looked at the pictures again. Thats a 140 on there... Holy Rocketship Batman!! I think the HP rating for that boat is 100hp but i have seen them rigged up to a 135. Wow they fly. Years ago guys would get that exact engine that you have there and just put a 90hp cowl on it to avoid getting stopped by Johnny law...
  4. Not sure what the best way to work with glass is. I usually use the 2 part pumps and just keep using finer paper to get it smooth. If you use west system, you can go to the local WM and there is usually a guide you can buy. Its actually pretty easy. And yes, the original non skid was built into the gel coat. But you will never match the pattern. May as well get it all smooth and add you own non skid.
  5. okay, im trying to post a few pics here. This is another guys project and im poaching the pics. But look at the results , this is also a mid 70's whaler, but a 13 footer , It was blue too. He sanded it down then repainted the whole thing. After that he added the non skid. End result looks great. I hope this helps..
  6. DJ, I made the assumption about the paint based on two things. One, it looks like its chipping and two) all the boston whalers of that age were delivered with a blue interior , not white. As for the Non skid, I am not suggesting that you try to duplicate the non skid that is there already, it would be a real hassle. What i am suggesting is you make the repairs and sand the whole thing smooth. Paint it all one color, then re-apply a layer of non skid.
  7. I doubt it. I was only guessing at the weight. The 3000 pounds is probably closer to the real thing.
  8. 1000% agree. The boating licensing in CT has done nothing loud- NOTHING!! to change what happens on the water. the course you have to take is one day long and worthless. There has been NO change in the amount of deaths or collisions. All it does is create another useless cottage industry. BTW, i have done the CT course, power squadron and at one point had to pass a navigation certification to be the Navigator on a few overnight races. The only one worth anything was the navigation course and then only a little. You have to be out there to really know how this works people
  9. wow.. in all the years that i have been on and around Boston Whalers... I have never seena console like that That will be a cool project. Someone else will probaly know better, but I would do this.... Since the interior of the boat has already been painted at least once, I would strip it down. re-glass the cracks in the deck after it dries (right in front of the console near the bow right?) Smooth the whole deck out and then paint it all white again . the apply nonskid to the floor again and tape out a 1 inch border around the edge . that will give it a nice look.
  10. It does look like a fun project. I would bet that a any medium duty single axle trailer would haul that thing easily as long at the engines we not mounted. Pound for pound, whalers are pretty light. I would bet the whole thing as is would be under 1800 lbs. But im to lazy to google it for sure..
  11. I agree,... depending on the year. I am a Grady owner and love the boat, but Grady played slick with the numbers a few years back and a 25 footer is not the same 25 footer we all loved as the toughest 25 footer from the 80 till mid 90's. They call that boat the 27 now.. The current 25 foot grady is roughly the size of an older 24 and I would not be bringing my 24 footer from the mainland to the Bahamas. But I would a 27 (old 25) Glad they were okay
  12. I look at the Govt surplus site on occasion , usually just to look at what crap they have. It amazing how much excess is around. I have never bought or bid on anything. But, they have Boston Whaler 22 they are taking bids on. Hull looks fine, mfg in 92. Of course its been beat about the head and neck govt style, but it could be a fun project if it went cheap. Hull looks okay. If was in the area and had a big backyard, I might take a crack at it. http://www.govliquidation.com/auction/view?auctionId=2340448
  13. I vented about the mods over there and got this in my mailbox LOL.. Was a while ago though...But i actually thought it was pretty funny "I am an extremely patient person, but you are succeeding in wearing my patience thin. Wiley would never stand for someone calling him an a**hole on his forum, and neither will I. Regardless of what is happening on a community forum, it is never acceptable to call ANYONE, let alone the site owners, an a**hole (or douchebag, for that matter). If "personal attacks" are against the rules, what makes you think that personally attacking the representative of the forum owner, of all people, multiple times is gonna fly? Are you actively TRYING to get banned? I'm sure you understand that comments like yours would easily be grounds for banning on any other forum. I'll give you some time to cool off, but keep it up, and you can find another boating forum to frequent. " __________________ Internet Brands
  14. Stamford CT here too. Venture... If your boat is 150 feet away you must be in Yacht Haven east... or right next to the Crab shell.. Either way, how do you get work done? I am still small enought to stay a Czezics but i used to work in Harbor plaza. More than once when I was passing the boat to go into work my car suddenly took a turn into the marina parking lot. Its hard to lie where youve been when your an hour late for a meeting, you smell like saltwater and your hair is blown back! Nice.
  15. Sound like a great event. I would be there in a minute if I could afford the 1000 miles in gas..! Good luck guys. They deserve it.
  16. Fuse Panel looks great. I need to do that to the ol' Grady. It had a new panel when i bought it but the guy just added the old wires to the back. A fuse blew last year and it was looking at a bowl of spaghetti. King as long as your going all out, add some of these... sweeeet...
  17. King, Powdercoating will look really good IMO. But what concerns does chipping create? I dont have anything powder coated so this is a real question. should look great though.
  18. ANy chance you caught the company name or anything else? It been removed
  19. Im with Parker. I dont think its an issue of the tiller. I had a 40 way back on a 13 whaler. No problem at all. I think the issue would be 50HP + small Boat + Kids could = Nighmare I would swap that pup for a 15 to 30hp range. That small a boat will still zip right along.
  20. Good boats and heavy through the waves. By which I mean they dont just bounce around on the top, they are heavier and a softer ride for thier size. It could be a great project, and if you do it then keep the pics coming. That said, by the time you spend money on all the material ,rewire it , and buy a new or used engine I would say you will be out 4-5k minimum. And that does not count sweat equity. Think about how much boat you could buy with 5k first. Im not trying to dissuade you. If I had time I would take that project on in a second. It sounds like fun and there is nothing better than a boat the you (re)Built yourself. Im just trying to set expectations. Good luck, let me know what you decide.
  21. Ya what happened , Its tuesday already
