  1. I rarely go alone, but I'm planing another use for the autotether... I'm starting to realize that my almost 3 YO daughter feels more comfortable on the boat as she get older.

We tried, and succeeded, to teach her since she was a baby, that theres nothing to fear when on the boat if she follows the rules. She does follow them (for now) but I'm sure that she is not mature enough to know why she is following them which can lead lead to temptation to do something stupid and dangerous.

Well.. now she is completely FEARLESS of the boat, which in some way is good but in other way makes me uncomfortable.

My worst nightmare is to be driving the boat, and my daughter (or other of our guest's kid) going overboard without anybody realizing of it...

I know it's stupid, but I would not forgive myself if it ever happens!!!

I'm planing to attach one of the remotes to their pfd, just in case.....

  2. The pump mounted to the toilet is what flushes it. This pump brings flush water from your freshwater tank or raw water and sucks the waste and water from the toilet and pumps it in the tank all at the same time. Yes it is a macerator as well. You don't need any other pumps to use the toilet.

The only other pump you would need is one hooked to the tank to dump the waste overboard.

For the holding tank just look at the Todd tanks. West Marine carries a good amount in stock. Just go over there and take a look at them and see which one will fit best. You will probably have to do what I did which is mount the tank in the very front of the cabin under the berth. I used the 6 gallon size.

Not many boats use Y valves. You will usually only find these valves on boats capable to live aboard. The Y valve simple allows you to flush directly overboard instead of into your tank. You will likely never be in any situation where you need to flush directly overboard. Just flush directly into the tank and then install an separate macerator to pump overboard when full...but only in a legal manner of course.

I used 1/2" hose to feed water to the head. I have mine rigged so I can use seawater or freshwater to flush. I use the fresh water as the seawater tends to smell after a while.

Hey thanks everybody, very good info....

Chris, let me make sure I understand correctly....

If I read it right, this toilet needs to be connected to a water supply source that can provide 31/2 gal per minute, so I will have to run a hose from my wash down pump to feed the head. Also another hose from my fresh water tank, if I want this capability and a Y valve to chose which one I'm using to flush the head.

The toilet has its own macerator pump to pull the "stuff" to the tank, but I will need another one to pull it from the tank to the outside. Am I right??? I know that for waste disposal at the dock they have some kind of vacuum, but I will still need the macerator for when I want to discharge waste directly into the ocean. If I assume correctly, thats the pump that needs to be secure to avoid accidental activation on prohibited areas.

I will also need another Y valve between the tank, the ocean discharge, and the deck fitting for dock disposal.

Any recommendation on the macerator pump between the toilet and the ocean??? brand??? type???

Any recommendation for the Y valve?? any specific brand??

Thanks guys, really appreciate the help

  3. OK, I'm lost... Need help putting my head system togheter....

The only thing I already have is a Jabsco QuietFlush electric Marine head...

    Here is a picture

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...tn%3D3%26ps%3D5

It has some Jabsco Pump on the very base of the Head with an out port of 1". I assume that thats the macerator pump, that will pull the residues to the tank. Am' I right???.

    I need advise over:

Holding tank (type, brand any recommendation???)

water pump for flushing (type, GPH, PSI, brand any recomendation???)

3 way valve (type, brand any recommendation???)

vent odor filter (type, brand any recommendation???)

How thick should be the Hose bringign sea water to the water pump???3/4?? 1 inch??

The head came with certain type switch panel. seems to have a rocker switch to flush water in to the bowl, and the other one is a double position rocker switch that flush water on the first position and activates the macerator on the second position.

I've been told that some places, requires you to be able to "lock" your Y valve on the Holding tank position, or having a key switch to avoid accidental discharge on the wrong area.... what can you say about this.

I'm totally ignorant about this matter, so any advise will be greatly appreciated.

  4. Emanuel.....you really don't want anything bigger than 6000. The cabin is a very small space and if the AC is to big it will short cycle and freeze up. Hell even 5000 is big for these cabins. The best fit both in physical size and BTU would be a 3500. Unfortunalty you won't find these for less than around a grand.

Jacobi: thanks for the link.. I looked at that one, that priced right, but I was waiting for a real deal....

I have a unit that I'm ready to install, but it's kind of old, and do not know how reliable will be.... I do not want to have to do the work twice..

Hey Chris!!! nice to know.... I tought that bigger was better... what do you mean by it will short cycle and freeze up??

PS: did you get my e-mails with the pictures???

  5. Looking for something well maintained and fairly new, between 5k BTU to 12K BTU, I just lost a very good one on THaT other forum, from 2004, 12kBTU, with digital display and everything for 500 bucks... looking on that range.

If you guys know of anything please let me know... I will appreciate it.

    Thanks!!!

  6. Looking good man.. I remember when it first got stolen and followed that post.. Good to see the progress that is being made, Keep up the good work!

I may have missed it or read it and forgot.. Are you going to throw 250's back on or go with the 300's?

The boat you are seeing on my signature was taken some weeks ago after the 2nd rebuild... I found an awesome BRP tech dealer on cape Canaveral, he helped me to get a pair of 250's.

I bought the engines way before the boat was complete, but didn't install them until it was at least 90%. I think that at that time the 300HP's were not out yet, there was only talking about them but that was it.

Either way, never contemplate the idea to go higher on HP. Too many issues to sort, budget, weight, propping, etc... too many risks... I knew by experience that with the 225 Fitch's it was just about enough power, but with the 250 the boat handles PERFECT, no need to get more problems.

Also, assuming that the transom rating could take the weight of the engines and the HP, I'm almost positive that it will seat TOO low on the tail...

Thanks everybody for the kind comments. This boat has been an awesome experience and learning possibility in my life. I hope that you guys enjoy the pictures, as much as I enjoyed working on the boat and using it...

If I could help anybody with my knowledge on this hull or ideas to do thing to the boat... just ask, will be more than willing to help..

  7. So whose army is guarding it now?

    Barry

Like everybody said last time... If they really wanted, nothing will stop them, so I'm just making it less desirable by adding plain view, hard to bypass deterrants, and then some more not in plain view... I can tell you that I went over every single inch of that boat, and it has plenty of places to hide stuff

I guess that my chances of the thieves getteing caugth in the process are really high, but if not, the chances of getting them soon after are most likely guaranted.

  8. Excelent pictorial!!!

    Very nice job.

Thanks!!! so many pictures, that couldn't decide wich ones to put up so I put them all, and on top of that copy and pasting every single link was going to drive me insane. I didn't see fair for Wiley to store all this pictures on his site... hope you guys enjoy it and get some ideas out of it.... constructive criticism is more than welcome....

  9. With that 2nd trip you will be able to take advantage of the $150.00 cruising pass. You are allowed to return a 2nd time within 90 days for free. You still have to go through all the check in motions though....you just don't have to hand out the cash again.

AWESOME..... didn't know about that... I'm planing to go more than twice.. I have spent 2 years working on the boat to visit Bimini... :2261_high::2261_high::2261_high::2261_high:

  10. Sorry guys that it took me so long to be back on board but it has been crazy the las 2 weeks at the office.

There was a thread on THaT other site that I didn't want to hijack with my crap, so i decided to start a new one here, kind of a "look at my project/rebuild boat" thread...

I remember when I first got in THaT other forum asking about the boat that I just bought asking about Scarab owners, chris was one of the few around. Today judging by the other thread there is plenty of guys to exchange ideas and knowledge about this hull!!!!

In my personal opinion the hull is perfect for the south FL waters....it fit my family needs perfectly.

    Here is my little story.

I found the hull on ebay, while I was at a conference in Tampa.

The guy wanted to make the perfect fishing machine so this is what he did.

    This is the original Hull.

    http://gs93.photobucket.com/groups/l69/GPM...?albumview=grid

We decided to put a pair of fitchs 250, in Tampa, were we bought the boat. So since we bought it, until we got it down here was like 2 months.

The Fitchs lasted only a month in the boat, until we changed them for a couple of e-tecs.

    http://gs112.photobucket.com/groups/n171/G...?albumview=grid

The first thing we did, was the rubrail.

    http://gs99.photobucket.com/groups/l283/GP...?albumview=grid

Then the console (which I hated) and the cabin door. I used 3/4 starboard to do the door and the lid.

    http://gs102.photobucket.com/groups/m117/G...?albumview=grid

First screw up. Trying to install a water pickup.

    http://gs89.photobucket.com/groups/k217/GQ...?albumview=grid

First rebuild complete... we were ready to ride

    http://gs85.photobucket.com/groups/k71/GQ1...?albumview=grid

First sea trial on fiesta key...

    http://gs91.photobucket.com/groups/k286/GQ...?albumview=grid

Maybe the last time we got to enjoy this particular boat... at beer can island hanging out with ScatabChris

    http://gs90.photobucket.com/groups/k254/GQ...?albumview=grid

Around March, after spending around $800 on parts for mainteinance and upgrades to the engines, and 2 days performing those. The boat got stolen. And this is what we got back.

    http://gs105.photobucket.com/groups/m234/G...?albumview=grid

They took EVERYTHING that was not 5200’ed. Even the SS screws…

We used the opportunity to make some changes to the boat.

for example the oversized sink and live well was removed and converted to storage and stern bench. The floor at the cabin was also re-done from scratch. The floor hatches also new. They took the cabin door. So that one went new too... and more. The tricky part was the fish box hatch between the console and the cabin. The took that so I have to do it custom.

    http://gs86.photobucket.com/groups/k105/GR...?albumview=grid

So after the modifications and some soft spots fix, we get it painted…. Which in itself, proved to be an adventure. First trying to match the original white, until we realized that it was completely useless so we went to paint the whole deck

    http://gs93.photobucket.com/groups/l63/GR6...?albumview=grid

brand new console and T-top. the console came from ocean runners in Hialeah.

    http://gs87.photobucket.com/groups/k130/GR...?albumview=grid

It was impossible to find the wall hatches so I bought some oversized ones. (later I found the company that made the ones I had before, but It was already too late.

The cabin door was an incredible deal I got at Marine connection liquidators...

    http://gs96.photobucket.com/groups/l185/GR...?albumview=grid

The electrical install: Some pictures don't make sense but if I explain, they will, bear with me...I work at an electrical company, but had no electrical knowledge other than what I got in high school back in my country.

    http://gs103.photobucket.com/groups/m156/G...?albumview=grid

I got most of my cushions at marine connection liquidators. The ones at the cabin, I'm just getting them re-done.

Hyd Steering was a pain, since the helm, I bought used it was apparently contaminated with water.

The guys at Marine Connection promptly stepped up and made me good.

Kerno helped me a lot with the cylinder, and with the following troubleshooting of why the whole system was not working.

Lights: Provided by Costal nights and ScarabChris!!!! The underwater lights are a head

went a little bit over board with the windlass... was looking for a v700 that would be just fine for my boat, but came across a V2 on Ebay and I took it.

The idea for the storage, I got it from the newer Scarabs that have the windlass inside the anchor storage.

    http://gs109.photobucket.com/groups/n56/GR...?albumview=grid

Speakers: not the great thing but I found these recessed speaker frames at SSI Sailing Specialties Inc, that worked awesome!!!!

    http://gs92.photobucket.com/groups/l11/GR9...?albumview=grid

That’s all that I have right now… I’m still working on it… I have the leaning post, waiting to be installed, same with the A/C and electric marine head.

But first I wanted to address some suggestions that baitkiller gave me when he did my survey.

  11. DAMN!!! thats serious $$$$... I overdid it with mine because I got a ebay deal that it was stupidly good at that time. I was suposed to do good with a V700 but, got a V2. That may help if you do not want to cleat the line...

Get something ballsier than what you need, but either way I do not think that you are going to get away for ever. If you do not cleat the line sooner or later you will loose the gears on the windlass.

Either way I crawl to the bow every time to cleat the line since I do not want to go thru the pain of having to re- install that frivking thing again.

  12. You must of been drunk :1992_beer_cheer: or you took those pictures with a camera phone!! Lol J/K. Maybe it's time for a new camera?

    David

It's time for a new camera, but not drunk..... :1992_beer_cheer::1992_beer_cheer:

I found out that as soon as you cancel the flash the camera stays open longer, making thing shakier....but if I leave the flash on, you can not apreciate the UWL

The one in my sig pic, was taken with a phone, believe it or not :504_shrugging:

  13. The trick with taking decent shots are as follows.....

    1) Pic must be taken from a non moving platform like land.

    2) You need to set the camera apature (sp) to its highest setting. This allows the shutter to stay open longer and capture all the light.

    3) The camera has to be as still as concrete. Because the shtter exposure is open longer any movement will blur the shot. A tripod and setting the camera on auto shoot is best. But I have gotten good results resting the camera on a dock piling and pushing the button myself while being very still.

4)The boat itself and the people on it need to be still as well. Your position in the above shot was good because the water was calm and you were not in motion.

    5) No flash!

The below was one of the first pics I took of the lights. I had 2 of the prototype white lights on it. You can see how clear the pic is except theperson on the boat. They are so blurry that it looks like they are doing jumping jacks. They were standing still....at least they were trying to. I took the shot with the camera resting on the back of a beach chair.

Hey Chris, I will try to find out if I can do the with my camera.. the one that we use more often is a coolpix something 8 or 10 MP.... I have an olympus much older, bulkier, 5MP that I keep mainly because I have the underwater housing. I'm sure that with that one I can adjust the aperture... I'll give it a try.

  14. Your wiring looks like it should. It makes me proud to know you even if it is only over the internet.

the "kerno touch" in my boat. I can proudly say that knew nothing about hydraulic steering before this rebuilt, until I got kerno. Now, the little I know, I know it right... Kerno AWESOME advise on that K6... the BEST cylinder design I've ever seen, you were right on everything... I have not forget about your suggestion on the Power assist, it is on my wish list :2261_high:

Seem that I can't post more pictures on this thread.. I reached my 500K limit...

I'll go with the link way

  15. So, is the first post supposed to have pictures of lights? The only thing I see is a picture of a nice boat in the day time.

What it keeps bothering me is that all the pictures are on the same album over THT, but if I'm not logged over there they don't show....EXCEPT for one and is not always the same one.

The first time I noticed this the only picture I could see was the one with the chicks, but Ccraft can't see that, but instead he sees the picture with the UL during the day.... very weird.... bottom line, do not host your pictures at the other site.

  16. Here is one of the better pics some of you can't see on page one. I thinks its a very good shot and will go on my site. Its tough to get good pics of these lights in action and I am willing to bet this pic doesn't even do it justice.

Hey Chris could you post some of the other pictures, I PMed Wiley to edit my original post to remove the links and attach the pictures but he may be having some drinks looking at the inlet!!!

Next weekend I'll be on Key west so I will take lots of pictures of the lights for you....like you said the ones I took last weekend do not even do justice... the crappy camera and my lousy photographic abilities do not even reflect how good the light are.

I may even try to take one with my underwater housing!!! :605_thumbs_up::605_thumbs_up: if the water is not too cold :P

  17. Rick, I understand what you're saying and can see why it would upset a lot of people. Lots of folks are in dire straits, and need all the help they can get.

That said (please don't throw tomatoes at me yet), I can also see the viewpoint of the webmaster and mods of that site.

I've been a moderator on a forum-type site that has absolutely nothing to do with fishing or boating for about ten years now, and our experience has been that if we start letting members post all kinds of links, things go downhill fast. We encourage our members to help each other out in situations like the one you posted, but to do so via e-mail or PMs. Links to information that has a direct bearing on the primary purpose of the site are permitted if used sparingly and are adequately 'guaranteed' by the poster to be harmless and appropriate. We do not permit links to competitor sites for obvious business reasons.

Our "ulterior motive" in our policy is that since our site is run totally by volunteer mods, we can't have someone monitoring and investigating a slew of links 24/7/365 to make sure nobody's slipping in links to porn sites, phishing sites, and other inappropriate sites. It's an unfortunate fact that some people have snuck a link past us, causing considerable turmoil and embarassment for a lot of people and the site as a whole.

In a case like the one you listed, I personally, as a moderator, would have deleted the link BUT also would have PMed or e-mailed the person who posted it, telling him/her that I understand the intent to help, but asking that the link be sent to the other party by e-mail or PM. I would also post a brief "Moderator's Note" in the thread explaining what I did and why.

Please do not take this personally, mean not disrespect at all, but allow me to disagree...common sense is not that common anymore...

Again... you or the owner of the site on this case, are more than welcome to do whatever you want on your site, but deleting a post of a guy trying to help another fellow boater is wrong IN MY OPINION. I would be as pissed as Rick is now, just for the lack of common sense.

I totally can agree with deleting spam, competitors links, etc... but a guy posting a link only to help another guy... I do not see how that could hurt at all...

AGAIN JUST MY OPINION... MY PERSONAL WAY OF SEEING IT, no hard feelings :605_thumbs_up:

  18. Emanuel,

Nice work! Did you epoxy your back board in and then screw it to the console? how did you do it? wood covered in epoxy, pianted, then mounted?

    thanks

Siggi: I found out that THT has some kind of link protection so people does not do what we were doing... it basically block the pictures if the users is not loged in... I've started using the attach option instead of linking..

Fishinspot: I used 1/2 inche starboard. I was adviced to go with 3/4 but I thought that it was too much and too heavy.

I used Screws to hold it to the console wall. For the top part I used some very nice SS super flat hurricane shutter 1/4 screws/nuts. I place them very close to one of the T-Top horizontal pipes so it's varely visible.

The bottom ones I screw them right on the step on the cosole were the T-top sits.

Chris: Maybe the CHICKS were the reason that you didn't pay attention to my rig..... :753_hammer_hitting_head::605_thumbs_up:

Triuphrick: No problem buddy, I knew that you were pulling my balls.... I know what you mean about how dangerous is to hang on the bow. Once, my wife, accidentally hit the throtle too hard and I almost go over.... lot of yelling after that..... Thanks for the compliment, it feels good to get reckon by our peers...

reelapealing: I have another thread on THT, I'm sure that you can see them in there.

    post-81-1239146986_thumb.jpg

  19. Emanuel, we can definatly do the late night thing. We do it very often in that very spot. We back the boats in so its easy to board. Then we make a bon fire on the beach and let the kids roast marshmellows. We have a lot of chairs around the fire and enjoy some drinks and good conversation. The pic in my sig below was taken on just such a night. You can see the red glow on the boats from the fire.

Definitly... as soon as we are back from the keys we have to do the fire thing with some good argentinian grilled churrascos!!!!! :605_thumbs_up::605_thumbs_up: I always wondered what was that redish reflex, but always thougth it was some kind of sunset weird effect... :2403_worshipper::2403_worshipper:

  20. That is one of the nicest electronics and wiring installs I have seen. Nice work! :605_thumbs_up:

    -Svence

Thanks a lot sir!!! I really appreciate your comments.... I have to say that I did it with tons of help from a lot of guys in here... Kerno, ScarabChris, TonyFox, Bamaboy473, Johnrude, etc... without their help, who knows if I could have done it....
