    That setup can also be offered and was actually the original plan, just a bit more difficult to setup.

    Yeah, thats my personal preference anyway.....maybe see a short preview of a book or clip of a DVD to see what youre buying and then let the consumer make the decision....just like shopping at a book store...you can flip through the pages quickly, then go to the checkout.

  2. ReelBoating actually receives pretty good traffic. Don't judge the lack of nonsense posts with the actual web traffic.

    The question is not about a fee for this website as it is now. It is about having an informative website with multimedia, instruction.

    Most forums like THT offer nothing but banter, no content, nothing whatsoever from the owners. I'd rather not continue that route here.

    Free...whenever you sign up for something that includes a "small monthly fee" you end up not using what you paid for....I'd rather pick something and pay for it as I go or if I want, rather than pay whether you like the product or not....its like cable TV when you have to buy a package with 5 good channels and 50 crap channels...you may be paying for something you dont want or need.

  3. I couldn't tell you what the regulations are elsewhere, but in Maryland the State Department of Natural Resources requires the license number, printed in letters at least 2" high.

    now that makes total sense.....most I see up in new england are color markers ....very little in terms of numerical code or names

    Up in my old stomping grounds on the Chesapeake Bay, they were most often marked with relatively-small floats, some round, some cylindrical, some "bullet" shaped. The commercial crabbers most often painted theirs in a color(s) and pattern unique to them, and they normally had their license number on them. Up there, the crab pots are not very large, and are tethered to the float by smaller diameter rope - 1/4" to 3/8".

    My worst experience with them was the day I was trading in my first boat. Enroute to the dealership, I caught a poorly-marked crab pot (extremely dirty float) around the prop. Having taken nearly everything off the old boat and not having a bathing suit aboard, I ended up having to go in the river in my skivvies and cut the line off with a very dull pocketknife. I completed the transfer to the new boat "commando style". :o

    Most fisherman use colored marker bouys using colored ring or dot pattern combinations...but after a while, they all start looking the same.....what's wrong with just putting your name on it?

  5. I am interested in more details regarding your change from drum to disk brakes. Were these hydraulic surge, drum brakes that you changed over to stainless disk brakes? I have been considering doing that for some time. Any tips?

    Lang, I did my own on my Loadrite...actually, I made a 2 axle with stainless discs from a single axle with NO brakes....it wasn't hard at all....Got all my parts from Champion trailer...once installed, the stability was great and the braking was almost too good,,,and that was on only one axle, not both........it was a Tie Down Eng set up and were surge brakes.......

  6. I am having my new 31 Ameracat built starting next week and I could go with either motor in the 250 HP. Any one have any thoughts of one over the other in that HP range.

    both are good.....are the dealers nearbye for quick service?.....can the boat handle the extra weight of the 4 stroke? what do YOU want for an engine...2 or 4s?

  7. I will admit I do post on the old site more then here, there is just more traffic there. But overall I am not as active on any of the forums as I used to be, just to busy this time of year. I do check in here pretty much every day.

    I think it just takes time...you got forums specific to a boat or topic, ie, wooden boat, great grady, classic mako etc.....the one big one everybody complains about and still goes to has SOOOOO many members that it will take time to get them to check out something new......word of mouth, advertizing and just being another spec of sand on the beach will move people over, especially if bashing is TRUELY not allowed.....there are tons of people surfing who are afraid to post just for that reason....that's who you need to attract to get this forum going IMHO.

  8. The shop that did the work removed my buddy bearings and replaced them with a sealed caps.

    Just to clarify, the "sealed caps" I have now are just plain old dust caps.

    Blowing out seals is never good, but you really have to pump the heck out of a bearing buddy to blow it out....I've never had a problem...I just fill the bearing buddy half way (never till its fully expanded to the end) and never had an issue....after replacing bearings and packing the hubs by hand it doesn;t take much more to fill the remaining space...you do need room for expansion so don't over do it....just pump until you see the springs on the buddy begin to move...should be fine. What they are also refering to is old grease that hasn't been changed in a while...it becomes hard and useless,,,,guys just keep filling the buddy up year after year and never cleaning out the hub and bearings and hand repacking...that hard stuff will blow out the seal..if you clean and repack routinely, you don't have to worry about it. PS...ask for you bearing buddies back...they are yours, not there's to remove and keep.

    Could there be a restriction in the fuel line?

    Fuel pump?/primer bulb?

    Sounds like a fuel starvation issue.

    Either that or water/crap in the tank....Use a portable tank with fresh gas and see what happens....let her run a bit....if it works well , that means your onboard tank has water or contamination in it screwing up your engines and needs to de drained and flushed......if there is no improvement you may have something wrong with the engine (still may be fuel related if its carbed) or a bad squeeze bulb or anti-siphon valve not allowing full flow at WOT.
