How do you "clean the check valves"? My boat steers fine and the fluid is never low but if I turn the wheel slowwwwly to port nothing happens. I have to turn it quickly to port to get it to start turning. I hear a click inside the helm when it starts moving so I am pretty sure it is a sticking valve. My motor will fall to starboard on the trailer.

Have you tired swapping the gear cases? I have heard that can correct (or worsen) a handling issue. But since you are experimenting anyhow, why not try? Not sure if there is any reason you couldn't on Zukes.

15,500 or so on my GPS. Trip meter on the GPS only goes to 9999 then has to reset. Its already rolled once. Those are just fishing trip miles. I don't bring the GPS on skiing, cruising, or beach trips. Have it turned off for the trailer ride too. This is over 9 years though.

Ok, I'll chime in on the don't have one list. Nothing against them but I just haven't bought one. Yes I spend a reasonable time offshore.

Your internet battery replacement cost 160+- along with Your time screwing around with it .
Is it really worth guessing if its right for $100. The test report I received with my replacement was not a guy in the back room flipping the switch and saying "yeah thats good"
There are plenty of ways and areas to save money but safety should not be one. When your 100 miles out and no one in sight or on radar and it starts kicking you want to know that everything is in optimum condition.
also make sure your epirb is registered six crew members lost off cape may this week lost precious time because there beacon was not registered it cost nothing to do and takes five minutes
I trust me more with my saftey than I trust somone else.

Run it till it dies. If it never dies then you really got your money's worth. I know Americans love disposable stuff but don't throw away a running motor.
