  1. I don't see these boats for sale for much less than SeaHunt, KeyWest, Scout and some of the other mid tier boats. The ProLine would fall in line with the boats I have listed. 2 strokes are old technology. 4 strokes are the way to go. I feel they are going to last you much longer and have fewer problems. As Ludicrous mentioned, if you aren't an experienced boater, you will need to have one with you as you try these boats out. Probably not worth having surveyed, but at least have a mechanic or experienced boater make sure you are getting what you pay for. As far as the type of boat, a Center Console will be the best fishing boat, just from the way they are layed out. Next would be a Dual Console, some in that size will have room for a porta potti. The next in line that is a lot more family friendly will be a Walkaround. Good luck!
  2. Thank you Alan. As always your pictorials are clear, precise and informative...what else could I want! I have seen these over the years on several different forums. Do you have a web site that is indexed for all the reels you work on? I have print outs on several of the Penn reels you have done over the years. Thanks again for helping us fledgling repair enthusiasts!
  3. I also help out when I can. Just think it promotes good karma. Usually what goes around, comes around.... Our balky fuel gauge in or '02 keyWest we just sold left us stranded......8 miles out! It was good having BoatUS and a great captain to deal with for our tow back in after dark.
  4. You know, they must still sucker people in with those or they would have stopped years ago.....
  5. Welcome, steplift, glad to have you aboard! TCW3 is tcw3..no brand should have an affect on your motor alarm. I had used that oil for a while before selling my 2 stroke 150 Yamaha and never had an issue. You could have stirred up some gunk in your oil tank that has now blocked the strainer at the bottom. These things usually ocdur when filling or moving the tank around. Not sure what motor you have, but I would now drain and clean the oil tank. Also follow the purge instructions in your manual. Make sure there is no air in the line and try running it again. Those strainer filter can be replaced instead of cleaning as well....
  6. Precious, simply precious. Congrats from the Triumphrick household..lets see, my two little ones are 35 and 33! Whew..where has the time gone??
  7. On the top next to My Controls is a View New Posts tab.
  8. Found these while surfing craigs... http://tampa.craigslist.org/hil/boa/1327953509.html
  9. SD...? We have a place in Tampa area that supplies custom lexan windshields. The one for a Renken I rebuilt cost $85. I looked them up and could not find them, but these people supply the material to many shops thru out Florida and know the fabricators... http://www.farcoplastics.com/
  10. I think I would pass on the Captiva...the Diawas and Shimano Spheros series are really good. Alos the Penn 430's, 440's. Check out your local craigslist as well. I buy a bunch of tackle off it every month for resale...
  11. Good job! Roomy looking boat. Pops looks to have a comfortable seat! Time to get that sig pic changed....
  12. Who else here use to ROLL for the Dooby Brothers ? Welder.. Geez, I think I remember those daze...kinda foggy to me now....
  13. My Lowrance manual had instructions for uploading the chip....
  14. Thanks for the heads up..my wife loves that reel, kinda light and easy for a conventional reel. She's pulled a few nice grouper up with that rig....my local store is out..he is trying to get a couple for me!
  15. Man you guys are making me hungry...we latched in to a couple cobia a week or so ago and sliced up a couple of chops that we grilled with a pecan crust....heres the recipe for salmon...replaced with the cobia.. 3 tablespoons Dijon mustard 3 tablespoons butter, melted 5 teaspoons honey 1/2 cup fresh bread crumbs 1/2 cup finely chopped pecans 3 teaspoons chopped fresh parsley 6 (4 ounce) fillets salmon salt and pepper to taste 6 lemon wedges DIRECTIONS Preheat the grill to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). In a small bowl, mix together the mustard, butter, and honey. In another bowl, mix together the bread crumbs, pecans, and parsley. Season each salmon fillet with salt and pepper. Place on a lightly greased baking sheet. Brush with mustard-honey mixture. Cover the top of each fillet with bread crumb mixture. Bake for 10 minutes per inch of thickness, measured at thickest part, or until salmon just flakes when tested with a fork. Serve garnished with lemon wedges
  16. Interesting report about the vhf radios...I regularly run to a spot 32 miles out in the Gulf and am able to maintain radio contact with BoatUS, my tow company. Actually, each time I anchor up I make sure they can read me. Surprised the article said that radio reception was sketchy at 20 miles....
  17. Can't really speak for too many other places, and this place is getting kinda full, so maybe somewhere other than Florida.....
  18. Thanks for all that Ludi...I've got to do that whole scene next week. Splash the boat on Wednesday and bring the trailer home for a few days..man your post was timely.. This trailer and boat are somewhat new to me and I knew going in the brakes were bad. Back plates and all are completely rusted thru...I'm gonna get a workout removing all that. I am only going to have brakes on 1 axle..they both have brakes now. I will see what I can scrap or reuse. Great pics by the way!
  19. I have been looking and waiting for these to drop below $300. BOE has them for $289 and then I found this link.. http://www.boaterbarn.com/revere_fastfind_..._31147_prd1.htm The price seems right and I have been promising the Admiral we would have one of these onboard...soon! Any thoughts or comments?
  20. Greetings, Bob...good to see you back. Rick
  21. Cross over onto Alligator alley and take in some spots along the West Coast. Have you ever been to Boca Grande when the tarpon run? That's a sight not to miss. May be getting a little late, tho.. You can always swing by Masaryktown. We would welcome you like an honored guest... You can help feed the chickens, the goats and change the geese water... Or just keep heading north on US19 and tuck on in to Cedar Key..old time Florida tourist town.. Wherever you go..hope you have a great time and an enjoyable vacation!! By the way..what does momma want to do?? That's kinda important..
  22. Nice fish..all our bonita we caught last Saturday fell prey to the cudas..Looks like a lake. How far out??
