  1. We have been on quite afew used boats the past year, looking to replace our 27' WorldCat...

We made the trip to meet up with Wylie at Yellowfin about a year ago. Since then, the 36' we were looking at has now been downsized to a 32'.

A week ago we found a sweet used '08 with F350's. It sea trialed great! There were some reports that the F350's were slow to plane. If 6 seconds is slow...so be it.

Great fit and finish, a good combination of electronics as well as the KeyWest console and a deal has been hammered out! The boat is now at Yellowfin being detailed and any minor issues resolved.

  4. A few friends and I met at the Hernando Beach ramp @ 7:00 am for a day on the water chasing the elusive grouper that I have had a hard time finding...at least the legal ones. My two previous trips averaging about 8 hrs each provided us with only one legal gag. Mind you, we had great days on the water and had 100 fish days with all kinds of grunts, sea bass, reds and gag grouper coming over the side, but only one was legal and it was a 26"..

We had grouppimp, our secret weapon on board with a gaggle of Loran co-ordinates. The Loran system has been turned off for a few months and we have to rely on our gps converting the sites. Much has been said on other forums I visited about the accuracy of the conversions...

Our first spot had been loaded the day before as I familiarized myself with the process. It showed us about due west of Bayport in 42' of water. As we neared the site, we started looking. Some people said the conversions may not be accurate and up to a 1/4 mile off. However, as we hit the number, the bottom showed good bottom and some structure.

Unfortunately, the keepers were not there..lots of fish were being caught, however. On to the next site, more northwest..same results. And again, another site same results. Finally by 3:00 we hit a site 41 miles nw of Hernando Bch..and in the distance were three other boats. Almost immediately bigger fish started coming over the side..several gags up to 21" were being caught and then some keepers as well as two fish 26" - 27". We had settled in 55' of water and 5:00 arrived in no time at all and we headed in. We had put almost 180 - 200 fish in the boat, many big gags and our six keepers..

It's all about the bottom, folks. Thanks to the crew for a good safe day on the water and to the 'pimp for a nice handful of numbers...Billy had a pedicure before taking the pic.... :D Is it just me or does someone else think the filet knife got to two of his toes??

  5. Jeese, If you can wait for those new light 300's to come out you should. That is going to be the best engine option that we have seen in a while for our Venture boats. I think the power to weight ratio will be awesome. My name is Byng Osborne and I am the service manager at Venture.please give me a call if I can help you with anything. Byng

Byng give me your best guess on the new (triple) 300s for the Venture 39 - or is the (triple) 350 yammy package the way to go?

Hmmmmmm....558 lbs per new 300 vs 804 lbs per F350. That's gonna be about 740 lbs less weight on the transom.

  6. Anyone actually see any benefit to Daylight Savings Time?

Sure, it's great when you have kids who can enjoy and extra hour or so in the Summer but IMO I think 7pm should look like 7pm all year long.

It does give those with a boating "season" some extra time as well I guess.

    Maybe I'm jaded?

    :239_fishing:

Gee, I always thought the idea of daylight savings time WAS to have 7:00 PM look like 7:00 PM...!

For me, I appreciate this time of year when I can stay out and about with the daylight a little longer.... :605_thumbs_up:

  7. This is a new generation 4.2 litre available in 200, 250 and 300 hp versions. The initial batch is called the SHO, avialble in 20" shaft version. Definitely for the bass boat crowd.

The next batch is a 25" and 30" shaft motor for our bigger boats. The weights of the 25" shaft motor are reported around 558 lbs.

Instead of all my blather..here is a link..

I hear their new gauges are 7" across...look at these

  8. Good posts!! What the hell is this disease called "twofootitus" all about?? I mean how the heck can I trade up over the course of two years to this perfectly suitable rig, twin 4 strokes, more boat than I thought I would ever have owned (as my retirement present) and not be content with what I have??

It does everything for me, but after a time or two of hitting some 3-5's and getting a little pounded coming in, I just need to have a 26'. Or maybe a nicely equipped, carefully used Scout Abaco 242...??

If someone can come up with a relatively easy 12 step program to wean me, and also possibly Welder, off this insatiable desire for a bigger boat, I may be all for it.

I go to the boat shows to get a grab bag full of freebie junk, but sit down with those salesmen and ponder if that $535 payment won't be felt in the 'ol pocketbook....

Whew...this post is too close to me for comfort.... :o

  9. Twins were a bonus on this rig when we found it for sale about a year ago. Many of these 2300 KW's were sold with a 225 Yamaha. I run a loooong way to get to any thing near 100'; usually 45- 50 miles West of here. For some reason that trip is nowhere near as daunting with a pair of motors on the transom. I have found that with my switch to 4 blade props, I can plane this boat on one motor, another bonus...

Four strokes are easy to maintain and keep track of. I did my 400 hr service on them right after I bought them and dropped about $380 for the pair. I was able to check the valve lash and inspect the timing belt myself. Plugs, filters, oil were all relatively easy to access. I feel confident with this rig and that really adds to our days on the water...

One more thing...after the three football players died last year we bought a PLB. I already had two radios, two Lowrance LMS 522's and always talk to BoatUS whenever I haul up and head out further..

  10. You learn something new every day...#1 selling salt water boat 17' to 29'"

Sure thought they pumped out all those Bayliners and they would surely be first. Must be considered fresh water.. Good to see the Sea Hunts have a good following. Nothing but good things said about them. I missed a deal on one while looking for our WA, or I would also be a proud owner. I'll admit, I have had zero problems on my 7 year old KeyWest.

  11. I am selling a pair of these reels. 2 speed. Spooled with 50# Ande mono. Excellent condition, no scratches, dings or boat rash. Reel bags included, although one bag has a small 1" tear. Asking $325 each. Will consider separating them. Please email triumphrick@gmail.com

  12. Jim at BOE marine sells the Powerwinch series. Their model 315, rated for 4,000 lbs costs only $168. Pretty good for a limited budget.

I used a 6 guage extension cord and ran it under my buddys Expedition, securing it properly. I fused it at the battery for 30 amps. It works well on his 19' hydra sports rolled gunnel boat.

Some of these units come with 20 - 25' of cable with alligator clips for attaching to the battery. We wanted a more permanent installation.

  13. Nice commercial.Any comparative figures, Yamaha250 vs. Verado 250?Impressions from any of you who might have tested this Yammi?

No 250 #'s, but check these...

These numbers are printed in their "Hot Sheet" with all 3 engines rigged (individually) on a 257 Grady White crusiing at 3500RPMs

    -Yamaha F300 // 3.34mpg

    -Mercury V300 // 2.84mpg

    -Suzuki DF300 // 2.32mpg

  14. You should be fine with the truck. Do everything above and carry plenty of tools and 2 spare tires.

If any of your tires are showing wear on the edges your axles may need aligned. Around town it will be fine but you can wear out tires in a hurry in just several hundred miles. You could wind up needing new tires part way through the trip.

Also if you have Sea Tow or Boat US get their trailer roadside insurance, its cheap and it may come in handy if something drastic happens. Thats a long haul, take your time, stop often and check your trailer condition. CHECK YOUR HUBS FOR EXCESSIVE HEAT

    Have a good safe trip.

The hubs should be warm to the touch. If you cannot put your hand or palms on them, somethings wrong...

  15. I think if that were me I would pull the hubs and replace the seals. Cheap insurance. If they were to start leaking and you weren't able to notice the grease running down the inside of the tire, you could lose a bearing.

The truck should be fine towing that rig. The trip down 95 is pretty routine. Take some breaks along the way and don't be in a hurry.

    Enjoy your trip!

  16. Yeah that sounds crazy. But its a known fact that golf balls are dimpled for longer flight. Something about the dimples allows the air to slip over the ball easier.

I just watched Myth Busters. The myth was would a dirty car get better milage than a clean car because of the golf ball effect. Well the dirty car got worse milage.

But when they put dimples in the car resembling a golf ball the car went from 26 MPG to 29 MPG at 65 MPH.

How about dimples on the hull bottom to achieve the same effect? I have heard that some boat racers sand the shine off the bottom to help break the boat from the water.

    Any thoughts?

    Ball peen hammer??

Where's Mike Carrigan when we need him??
