  1. Hey All,

The wife and I are heading for a holiday to the US between June12 - July 6. We will be spending most of our time in Florida (Miami/Fort Lauderdale/Key West and between), and are desperately seeking a trip aboard a boat somewhere, even just for a day trip.

We are basically boat nuts who want to hit the water somewhere and experience the Florida waterways, whether that is in the ICW or offshore.

We are willing to pay costs and more by negotiation. We don't care if it's a 15ft flats boat or a Superyacht.

Anyone willing to help us out and show us the best of Florida?

Either reply here or email me at boatboy50@hotmail.com

    Regards

    Darren

  3. I would google "launch ramp with bleachers" and go wherever you find one. Bring your cooler and a few snacks and it will be a very enjoyable day.

    Hey Auto,

Thanx for the suggestion. I'm sure it would be entertaining, but not why I am spending a crap load on a trip.

Would really love to be on the water sometime while in the states.

  4. Hey Menzies,

Thanks for the info. I googled those places, but we would like to experience the cruise atmosphere. It's something we've wanted to do for a while, but now the opportunity has arisen, so we will take it.

We don't mind missing out on some of the place to experience the cruise.

We are in hotels for about a month, so the cruise will be a good break.

  5. Took the boat (back in the day) out twice for July 4th. Once out of Boca Inlet and the other out of Hillsboro. Never ran into any trouble, near misses or anything. Only minor concern was the large yachts at the drawbridge but with some good timing getting through was quite easy.

I actually saw more boats out yesterday (Mother's Day) than I did on the 4th.

    I'm going on Ludy's boat!

    Hey Wiley,

Thanx. I tend to boat over here every holiday too, so crowds are not something i'm scared of. I can look after myself and stay out of harms way.

A question for you Mr W. We are looking at also doing a cruise with a ship before July 4 from Miami or Fort. Do you recommend a particular boat or company to look for? We want to cruise the Bahamas.

    Regards

  6. Ever hear of Naples Florida? Little pricey and upscale but a great place to visit in the USA. A great Florida destination! Very good firework show at the Naples Pier, July 4th. Your welcome to tag along to view the works, 200-300 vessels usually there, one good thing is we head the other direction afterwards vs. 95% heading South after the show. North bound traffic is light. Your on your own for the rest of your trip here but a boat ride and fireworks show I can offer. Baramundi fishing trip you will owe me...

    Hey Ludi,

Thank you again for the offer.

Doesn't look like we will be hitting the left Coast this time around. Wish I could take you up on your offer.

I've seen your pics before, and it looks like a great place. I'll be the one missing out.

    Thanks again.

  7. You may find that most here stay away from the water on the actual 4th. I usually get a 3 or 4 day holiday for the 4th and will spend one or two days on the water, but not the 4th itself. We stay home to grill and pool! If you are up this way you are more than happy to hang with us (so long as there isn't another durn basketball tourney!).

If in Miami, see if the Marlins are playing at home and take in a ballgame and fireworks. Probably still the best way to experience America on the fourth.

    Hey Menzies,

Thank you very much for the offer. It is very appreciated. Jacksonville is a bit off the beaten track for us, this time around we won't be heading to North Florida.

The Marlins looks like a good idea, and I think they are playing at home. I will put that one in the possibilities, and the deckie has even agreed in principal if we can't spend it on the water.

    Thanks again,

    Darren

  8. Hey Guys,

Travelling to the States soon, and will be there for July 4.

Can you guys suggest a good place to spend it and see all that is American on your day?

We are probably going to be in Florida somewhere, and was thinking either Miami or Florida Keys.

We'd love to spend it on the water somewhere, so if anyone has room for two deckies i'd love to hear from you.

    Regards

  9. Em,

Great to see the rehabilitation of this beauty.

You sure got your butt into gear. It wasn't that long ago we were reading about her recovery after the theft.

Can I ask yours and Chris's opinion? I'm looking at a few for sale, some with T-Top's, some with arches. Which is better, considering you both have experienced both types regularly?

I love these boats and could not pick anything I could do differently.

  10. Hey Guys,

Sorry, I missed where it said it was a rental? It would explain a fair bit though. A rental is not always maintained to the book, and someone may have cut a corner in fixing it.

It looks to me like a late model Yamaha. I've never seen one explode anything like that.

I own a Yammie PWC and spent the day working on it in the bilge for the afternoon today. With starting it, stopping it ect I never smelt any fumes with the hood open. I find it hard to believe an un altered PWC would do this.

    Regards

  11. Hey Chris,

Congratulations. I just found out the news of my expected 1st last week also so I know exactly how you feel.

We have our first scan after Easter and are debating whether to find out the sex or not.

We are planning on a trip over there around July 4 (our last hurrah). Maybe we could catch up for a brew (or better a run in the Scarab!)

Good luck with the bub and enjoy the experience.

  12. Afternoon all,

Flying into LAX 4 September for another three month US motoring trip. Having trouble getting a rental car this time although the car will be returned to LAX. Some CA agencies will not rent for that period or have restrictions on where the vehicle can go (like the East coast).

Any rental car outlet owners, managers or staff know if there is a general tightening up of rental conditions?

Recommendations on who to use this time for a Chev Impala or similar?

    Hey Pete,

Lucky you. We're heading over in June/July at this stage. Gotta take advantage of these cheap fares!

Would it not be cheaper to buy a car over there and sell it when leaving? I'm sure a 3 month rental would cost almost as much as buying a car? Last time we were there we used Alomo. We did week long hires, with pickup in one state, and return to another. We had a Chev Cobalt and a Dodge something.

As you've done the trip before, could you recommend some must do's for our trip? We've done Florida and California before, and at this stage are planning New York and Florida this time around.

    Regards

    Darren

  13. Thanks HotSpot. The critics don't bother me anymore - I have Zanax now! :1143_neener_neener_neener:

The internet has matured and hopefully so have the people along with it.

I'm inviting everyone to join ReelBoating and they can choose their destination from there.

It's EASY to be negative and critical - it's why so many do it. It takes strength to be supportive.

    Hey Wiley,

The sleepers at THT have allowed your site to be found down under here in Australia too.

Welcome back and glad to be a part of the new site.
