  1. With what Ranger has gone through in the last few years, i.e. industry downturn, Genmar BK, new owners, etc., it's not surprising that this issue got put WWWAAAYYY aside, if not ignored...

Sounds like they are finally stepping up to the plate. A lot of this same type of crap from different builders shows up on THT, the Team Bloodsport Contender thread probably being the most notorious. Now, not saying who's right and who's not in all these various scenarios, I;m just saying for a little bit of money, a builder can go a long way towards building a great reputation... :605_thumbs_up:

  2. Nah this is more than a router/IP issue. It would appear a bit more than that as having access to multiple and different dial-up, wireless broadband, ADSL etc systems they all behave the same and even where some of the systems have never ever even connected to THT :471_confused_face: .

Damn, Kerry, how dare you stay on topic, when this thread is about as de-railed as it can get?

Agreed with you on the complexity. Certain things that should have been restored by now on THT are still giving people issues.

Any of your Aussie friends have a suggestion?

  3. I only knew Ted from THT and talked with him many times over the last few years there. Great guy and very helpful to myself as well as many others. May you RIP buddy and thoughts and prayers to your family. The boating comunity has certainly lost one of the great ones. I'm another that was shocked to learn Ted's age.

Just goes to show you Dave, age is simply a chronological measurement...

  4. For those of you, and there are many, who knew Ted, he will be sorely missed, both as a contributor, but, more importantly...as a friend. Bless his soul, bless his family, especially that cute little granddaughter of his, climbing on his boat...

May, Theodore N. "Ted" Age 71 of Minneapolis, Bloomington and the Florida Keys. December 7, 1939 - July 24, 2011. (Kim) and son, Jesse (Julie) and two grandchildren, Samantha and Luke; brother, Tom May; sister, Virginia May; six nieces and nephews; and his loyal hound, Mr. Nibs. Born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Graduated from Augustana College. Traveled in Europe for two years, where he met and married his wife, Aase, in Copenhagen in 1963. Worked on the construction of interstate I-90 driving a cement truck, and for the Associated Press in Sioux Falls, SD. Graduated from the of University of Minnesota Law School in 1969, taught law at William Mitchell School of Law, worked as special assistant to the State Attorney General and as a partner in private practice. Owner of The 400 Bar and the Basement restaurant from the mid 70s to the mid 90s. In 1984, became an early Macintosh adopter, resulting in a lifelong passion for all things Mac. Please call 612-724-8707. If wished, memorials to the charity of choice.

Too many good people in this world die far too early.

  5. Didn't mean to offend anyone, certainly not Wiley. I know my way around my computer, but all this DoS, hacking crap is not only WAY beyond my pay grade, it is also something I would never do, never even consider! People like Wiley work hard to operate forums like RB, to me hacking them is like stealing...a no-no.

And yeah, Marlin, I probably needed a new router anyway. Like I said, the old was somewhere around 6 years old, and at $30, who really gives a chit? I'm good to go, it's good to see you and Chris here, you guys ought to stop in more often! :605_thumbs_up: :605_thumbs_up:

  6. Joe has some good suggestions.

As many times as I've been there I hate playing tourist, but we took the conch train tour once and it was pretty good.

While on land look into renting scooters. Best was to navigate around, u-turn in the road, park anywhere etc.

Hope there's a quick stop by Jupiter on the way!

While you're on St. Armands, have dinner at the Columbia, second oldest one behind the original in Ybor. Pork stuffed with Chorizo...

St. George's St. in St Augustine, you'll love it. The newer buildings were built in the late 1700s, skip the Oldest House tour...it's an old effin house! Excellent B & Bs along the bay just south of the bridge with the lions...

  7. What happened at THT had absolutely nothing to do with Wiley. It was a DoS (Denial of Service) attack on the servers. The reason for residual difficulties in signing in is also nothing to do with your router, and everything to do with the new IP that is acquired when a new router is installed. You can accomplish the same thing by releasing your IP and acquiring a new one, which is a little more complicated than a reset of the router, but there's a 14 year old on YouTube that can guide you through it easily enough.

The short version of why there are still problems signing in is that a ton of IP's get blocked in order to stop this kind of attack, and they have to be sifted through to eliminate the ones that aren't problematic. The ones that seem most affected appear to be mostly overseas, a big hunk of comcast, and a smattering of others.

Again: It has nothing to do with Wiley, and frankly, it's pretty surprising that anyone would think so.

It's also pretty surprising that Wiley would accuse me of the hack as he wrote in post 18...

  8. seabob... if there was any "hack" it was more than likely from you.

Based on my input to this site over the past 2 1/2 years, that is an insult. I think highly of you, and respect the dedication that you have shown to both the "original" THT and to reelboating. But that comment, sir, was uncalled for...

  9. What do ya say , SeaBob?

The prevailing issues all point to routers, either wireless or wired. Some were cured with resetting to factory settings, some were cured by a different IP, some were cured (like mine), with a new router.

Think about the logic here. We get our internet via cable, which sends the signal to our computers through an ethernet cable. Now, I could take the router out of the equation, plug the cable from the modem into each computer and access THT with no problem. Put the old router back in the equation? Problem returns. Buy a new router, ditch the old, no more problem.

Sooooo, my guess is that at the time of the RB ads being posted on THT, a piece of code was attached to the THT URL, which then infected the router and stayed there. Anytime after that, the THT URL was blocked, tricking Chrome, Safari, Firefox, whatever, from seeing the URL and accessing the site. So the THT IT guys find the rougue code and get rid of it. My new router doesn't have that piece of code in it, so it has no problems.

Sounds like quite the hacking scheme, doesn't it? No radical message anytime you tried to access THT, no computers crashing, no issues with any other site, and a simple benign message from your server saying the site can't be found. That's my theory, if anyone has a better one...and no aliens or Twilight Zone, please...

  10. Anyone know what the right oil to put in one?

Can't seam to find it on the internet and when I tried calling a few places, including ZF.. I got answering machines. I tried a few areas NE and SW and gulf. during business hours? Not even a supplier knew but at least they answered the phone.

If you called ZF, I assume you're talking transmissions...

Way to go on posting a boating question, but be a bit more specific next time, OK? :605_thumbs_up: :605_thumbs_up:

  11. Verizon told me that is is a THT problem. They did tell me to reset my router to set it back to it`s original settings which I did.So for now I guess they are down.

Nope, new router solved my issues, although I did reset as you did.

As I said, something from here happened over there... <_<
