  1. Bill, I did just that on my old flybridge - - one VHF on the bridge, one on the lower station, sharing one antenna on the radar arch. I used a Shakespeare antenna switch, with the incoming cable attached to the single terminal and the VHFs to the two terminals on the other side. Worked like a charm; never had any reception or transmission problems. Only thing you have to be careful about is accidentally keying up the radio that is disconnected from the switch at the time.
  2. I thought the same thing, but the Coroner says no indication of any external or internal damage to the head or brain. Rather, very significant heart disease. I still can't help but think the trauma of that hard landing may have put extra strain on an already weakened heart.
  3. Everyone stand well clear of Ludicrous. The lightning should be striking any time now.
  4. TV pitchman Billy Mays, known for hawking home improvement products, found dead at Fla. home MITCH STACY | Associated Press Writer 4:36 PM EDT, June 28, 2009 TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Billy Mays, the burly, bearded television pitchman whose boisterous hawking of products such as Orange Glo and OxiClean made him a pop-culture icon, has died. He was 50. Tampa police said Mays' wife found him unresponsive Sunday morning. A fire rescue crew pronounced him dead at 7:45 a.m. It was not immediately clear how he died. He said he was hit on the head when an airplane he was on made a rough landing Saturday, and his wife, Deborah Mays, told investigators he didn't feel well before he went to bed about 10 p.m. that night. There were no signs of a break-in at the home, and investigators do not suspect foul play, said Lt. Brian Dugan of the Tampa Police Department, who wouldn't answer questions about how Mays' body was found because of the ongoing investigation. The coroner's office expects to have an autopsy done by Monday afternoon.
  5. Your link to Lifetime is broken. I have had two different plastic sheds. First one was a Rubbermaid brand, "Big Max" model. It actually held up rather well, except when Hurricane Charley paid a visit. It blew apart. After gathering pieces from various neighbors' yards, I reassembled it, and it held up well for another 3 or 4 years. After reassembly, I sunk a few ground anchors on both sides and strapped it down with two heavy-duty ratchet straps across the roof. Never had another problem, despite two more 'canes that summer. Second one was made by Black and Decker. Not as sturdy as the Rubbermaid, but acceptable. Gave it the same straps-across-the-roof treatment and had no problems. Only reason I ditched both of them was because I replaced them with a much larger and sturdy permanent shed.
  6. I call BS. Ain't no way he could have done all that after 4 G&Ts.
  7. No; looks like one, but it's all glass, w/ a pair of Merc 300's - tops out at 80 mph +/-. Two VERY nasty boats!
  8. Excuse lousy quality; cellphone camera, shot through truck's windshield No idea what they were up to ; they were changing props on the big boat at the time. They're scheduled to be in Sarasota July 3-5; guess they might have been tweaking the boat for that event.
  9. Compliments of Wikipedia: Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that enables its users to send and read each others' updates, known as tweets. Tweets are text-based posts of up to 140 characters, displayed on the author's profile page and delivered to other users - known as followers - who have subscribed to them. Senders can restrict delivery to those in their circle of friends or, by default, allow open access. Users can send and receive tweets via the Twitter website, Short Message Service (SMS) or external applications. The service is free over the Internet, but using SMS may incur phone service provider fees. I've had an account there since it was new, but I just don't "get it" and haven't used it for a long while. I'll stick to Facebook.
  10. 99 here; heat index 106. I'm gonna collect up all those excess degrees and sell 'em on e-Bay to raise a little extra beer money. In the meantime, I'll just have to sit around in my tighty-whities, munch on Twinkies, and try to stay cool. Update: 53 degrees and raining. In Sitka, Alaska!
  11. The smile on the young man's face says it all. Thanks for sharing!
  12. Had me all excited for a minute there. When I first read the title of the thread, I failed to notice the letter "W".
  13. Looks like it was a fun day despite less-than-perfect weather. And I've got to add.... THANKS for having all the kids properly 'suited up' with PFDs!
  14. An Awlgripped humidor with Interlux antifouling on the bottom. I like it............
  15. Was that a "New Zealand crew" or a "FORMER New Zealand crew" ? I'll bet that's one ticked-off Russkie, and I imagine his insurance company ain't too happy either.
  16. COOL !!! Hope it turns out to be everything you want; can't wait to read details and see pix!
  17. Yep, you've found the best! Welcome Aboard. Has anybody posted a "Will the last person out please turn off the lights?" message over yonder?
  18. It is a very wise man indeed who adheres to the ages-old, carved-in-granite Rule # 1 - - If Momma Ain't Happy, Ain't Nobody Happy. Framework looks excellent.
  19. Man Rescued After Falling From Cruise Ship Posted: 4:04 pm EDT June 15, 2009 ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- A man found clinging to a buoy after falling from a cruise ship in St. Petersburg has been rescued. According to the Coast Guard, 46-year-old Larry Miller told them he went overboard from the Carnival Inspiration early Monday morning while it was returning to the Port of Tampa. He was found a few hours later clinging to a buoy near the Sunshine Skyway Bridge in the St. Petersburg area. He was transported to Bayfront Medical Center with minor injuries. Carnival says the man told authorities he slipped after climbing up on a railing to get a better view of the pilot boat. The ship was returning from a four-day cruise. The case remains under investigation.
  20. Welcome here. I think you'll quickly find that here is definitely more civil and friendly than there. I know that I did!
  21. These two guys have a LOT to be grateful for!! http://www.kmbc.com/cnn-news/19730665/detail.html
  22. I've had Dish for about 6 years. Generally, I'm pretty pleased with them. Decent channel selection, lots of HD programming, reception is normally very crisp and clear, but like all the satellite systems here in rainy Florida, I lose reception in virtually every heavy rainstorm. Outages can run anywhere from 2 minutes to 2 hours, depending on how the storm is moving. And their automated "customer service" phone system totally SUCKS. I always end up just connecting to the first option offered and ask to be transferred to a live human being in the department that I really want to talk to. My system has two dishes mounted on the roof. Both survived and didn't move an inch through Hurricanes Charlie, Frances and Jeanne in 2004 and numerous tropical storms and super-soaker thunderstorms over the years. One other thing about both Dish and Direct that totally irritates me is how they offer new subscribers all kinds of goodies - - HD receivers, DVRs, introductory low rates, etc - - but completely ignore existing long-term customers. If an existing customer wants an upgrade, they're glad to oblige, but only after you open your wallet. The only other option in my area is Brighthouse cable, and they are a complete joke; I'm still waiting for them to provide the quote I requested in 2003.
  23. I've found that a very hungry, pissed off 'gator living in the cockpit makes a pretty good deterrent. Beyond that, it's strictly luck. If they really want to steal it, they will; it might take them a while, but they will get it. No two ways about it.
  24. Yep. They discontinued the Aspen, Pacifica, PT Cruiser, Magnum and probably a few others I've forgotten about. (It's early - - I need coffee.)
