  1. Why's that date look so familiar??? Forget the Powerpoint stuff; think big. Goodyear Blimp.
  2. Wouldn't it be a darn shame if somebody driving an old cheap POS was to hit his speed bumps, go out of control, and hit his Escalade while it's parked in his driveway? Then turn around and sue his arse (AND the association) for creating a dangerous road hazard. Let me know when the election is. I'll move in for a week, just so I can vote. I can see the slogans now: "Think the present HOA President is an @$$hole? Vote for change from Ridiculous to Ludicrous!" Uhmmmm.... on second thought, that might not work......
  3. Primary criteria - must be: 1. Cold 2. Wet 3. High alcohol content. Two current favorites - - old faithful Guinness and a pretty good imitator, BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse's Tatonka. TATONKA® STOUT An Imperial Stout – a classic style so rich and flavorful that it was once the private beverage of Russian Czars. 4. I can't begin to tell you how much I hate most HOAs. Locally, one HOA was threatening to put a lein against the home of a Vietnam vet who has a very tall professionally made and installed flagpole in his front yard, from which he proudly flies Old Glory every day. Last I heard, it's still in litigation. When we were shopping for our home, the first question I asked every agent was "Is there an HOA?" If the answer was yes, I thanked them for their time and left. Park your non-commercial truck in the prez's living room (preferably on top of his oxygen tube) and move up this way. Nice lake right up the street. And no HOA bullsheet. ~~~~~~~
  5. I'm not sure what to think of this guy... Goes through all these months of sweat and toil getting the boat looking all pretty and well equipped. Finally splashes her.......... Then packs up and goes to London.
  6. I'd take a day like that over a trip with an ungrateful "buddy" anytime!

  8. Correct Craft Inc., the Orlando-based manufacturer of Ski Nautique water-ski boats, said today it will lay off 98 workers by the end of August. President and Chief Executive Officer, Bill Yeargin, would not say Tuesday how many employees would remain, but the company reported having about 360 workers last fall. Generally speaking, the state must be notified of a pending layoff if at least one-third of a company's workers are affected. Yeargin blamed the global recession and credit turmoil for the layoffs. "The boating market is off roughly 60 percent," he said. "We're not off as much as the market, [but] we're definitely off." Yeargin said company officials noticed early this year that business was slumping, but instead of cutting workers, the company spent time on training programs. When the market did not change by April, some employees were furloughed with benefits, he said. When summer started with a recovery nowhere in sight, the decision was made to cut jobs, he added. Yeargin said the industry has been hurt not only by falling sales but by dealers cutting back on inventory. Correct Craft, originally the Florida Variety Boat Co., was started in 1925 by the Meloon family of Orlando. Over the years, the company has carved a market niche with boats made especially for water skiing and wakeboarding. The Meloons now owns less than 1 percent of the privately held company. Yeargin said last month's unveiling of a new ski boat has been good for the company. "We're still building boats and have orders for a few months," he said. "The new ski boat, Ski Nautique 200, we consider it a blessing. ... It's causing people to look at Correct Craft and Nautique." ~~~~~~~~~~ Sad, but not surprising, to see this happen to this company; obviously even the specialty market that they cater to is feeling the pain.
  9. Congrats, man... she looks great! Do you have any pix handy of how she looked before you did ANY work ? I'd be interested in seeing some side-by-side, before-and-after pix (ideally from similar angles) to really see and appreciate the difference. Nice work. Now, kick back and get some enjoyment out of her!
  10. From today's Orlando Sentinel.... Red snapper fishing ban moves closer Federal officials want to hear from the public on a potential 6-month ban Ludmilla Lelis Sentinel Staff Writer July 7, 2009 If you like to eat or catch red snapper, you have until Aug. 5 to speak up. Federal officials are moving closer to banning the fishing of red snapper for six months along the Southeast's Atlantic coast. They will take public comment for a month before making a final decision this fall. The potential closure of the fishery would include recreational and commercial fishing of red snapper from North Carolina to Florida. The ban could take effect as early as October and could be extended to a full year. A federal report found that the red snapper is overfished, down to 3 percent of a healthy stock, making the closure necessary to rebuild the population. Local captains challenge that and are gathering their own evidence that the fish has rebounded. "Everybody up and down the coast has said we have an abundance of red snapper," said Capt. Sid Preskitt, who is part of a fishing group, a section of the Southeastern Fisheries Association, that opposes the ban. "But it's fallen on deaf ears." Red snapper, with its white, meaty flesh, has been a mainstay for Florida party boats and is a key part of Florida's $16.7 billion recreational-fishing industry. Records show the south Atlantic haul of the fish peaked in the late 1960s but plummeted in the 1970s and 1980s, prompting the first of several rounds of limits. The latest federal assessment found that despite the limits, the annual catch is still too much and that the population lacks enough of the big, older fish to help it rebound. Red snapper can live more than 50 years. The older the fish, the more fertile it is. Local captains say they have been catching bigger red snapper, and more of them, since the last round of regulations. They worry the ban would devastate local businesses and could be a first step toward a broader fishing ban. To fight the ban, Preskitt said his group hired a retired fisheries biologist to analyze the population assessment. The captains also are collecting ear bones from recently caught red snapper, hoping to prove with growth rings on those bones that plenty of older fish remain, Preskitt said. He said the group has plenty of samples of fish more than 10 years old. Federal officials will consider those reports and any other public comments before deciding on the ban. Roy Crabtree, regional administrator for the fisheries service, said a decision will probably be announced 45 to 60 days after the comment deadline. Crabtree said that if the fishery is closed, the ban could be extended for up to a year, depending on the status of permanent regulations by the regional fishery council. The South Atlantic Fishery Management Council is already working on a new set of permanent fishing regulations, which may be written before the council's September meeting. People can submit comments about the proposed ban online at regulations.gov, enter " NOAA-NMFS-2008-0089" in the keyword search, then select "Send a Comment or Submission," or by mailing Karla Gore, Southeast Regional Office, NMFS, 263 13th Ave. S., St. Petersburg, FL 33701.
  11. I know a STOMACH I'd love to put those into!
  12. I recently got a very sturdy and good looking cover from iboats.com.
  13. Whatcha been doing in all your spare time? She's looking good, Steve! You're pretty much into the home stretch. But, of course, you know what that means: The Dreaded "Two Foot-Itis" is right around the corner!
  14. It's a real long shot, but looking at the picture, the top of the motor cowl appears to be almost parallel to the water, while the bow is still fairly high, indicating that the engine was trimmed upward. Have you tried trimming the motor down a bit more to see if it brings the bow down, thus getting into more of a full planing attitude?

  16. Dayyyyyummmm! I'm sure you guys realize how lucky you were, and have given appropriate and plentiful thanks to The Man Upstairs. Also goes to show how valuable a safety briefing is before EVERY trip, as well as having an excess of safety equipment aboard. Hope your burns heal quickly, and any damage to the boat is repaired without too much hassle. I don't envy you having to clean up all that dry chemical. I've seen what a mess ONE extinguisher makes; I can only imagine your situation. But regardless...it beats the hell out of the alternative!
  17. Sorry, man. After that description, I just couldn't resist.
  18. Let's see how many of those dead Presidents you have left AFTER the weekend! Have fun!
  19. Only 125 to go to reach the magic 5,000 mark!
