  1. Day late and a thousand dollars short? Admiral had her heart set on a brand new 2009 Pacifica. So, naturally, Chrysler discontinued it after the 2008 model. Then she thought "Maybe an Aspen, instead!" You can finish that thought, Steve.
  2. Yeah, like THAT'S gonna happen!!! I think she's actually leaning toward something a little more compact:
  3. Do you REALLY want to drill four inch-and-a-half holes in your transom? And do you REALLY fully trust the claim of no water intrusion in the event of broken glass? On top of that, look at your total amps (2.9 amps x 4 lights) - - that's a pretty heavy draw, and will run your battery down fairly quickly. LEDs will also last a whole lot longer than the incandescent bulbs; have you looked into the replacement cost of the MR8 bulbs? The decision, obviously, is yours; just pointing out some potential pitfalls of the ones you're considering. Kinda reminds me of that old adage "Penny wise and pound foolish". Frank mentioned scarabchris "over on THT". Chris is a very active participant right here at RB. Drop him a PM, or he may come along and fill you in on more of the many benefits of LEDs vs incandescents.
  4. I got one a few days ago. Yesterday, I also got two from a local CJD dealer, claiming that they are the Regional Liquidation Center. It included two certificates; one for $5000 purportedly from Chrysler and one for $3000 from the dealer. And on top of that, they claim that they will give you the original dealer's list price for your trade-in. Close as I can figure, if we trade in my wife's 6 year old Chrysler, which cost $34K and change originally, and use all three coupons, the dealer will have to give us a new car and a bucket full of cash in change. You think perhaps I'm justified in being a little bit skeptical?
  5. Pay close attention to the time of day showing in the upper right of the video; there seems to have been some "selective editing" done to that particular clip; over a full minute missing between the time he uses the radio and the time he tased her. I'd like to see the ENTIRE tape before drawing any firm conclusions.
  6. Steve, none of the three boats I've had with freshwater systems had any kind of monitor. Fortunately, on all three of them, the tanks were located in spots where I could easily get a visual confirmation of how full they were. Percentage-wise, how far along is the entire rebuild project?
  7. One line from that movie got me into deep doo-doo when I took it to heart. "You're going to need a bigger boat." Here I am now, six boats later...... (One of my all-time favorite movies, although it still give me chills!)
  8. Tim, if there's an up side to the situation it's that as your boys get older and start reminiscing about "the good old days", they'll relive the experience, and will likely get a good laugh out of it over a cold beer or two. It's all pretty much normal behavior among brothers and childhood friends. Do take some kind of reasonable corrective action, but don't overstress about it.
  9. One hour after your post --->>>> 3,900 !!!
  10. It's getting even more interesting... this guy says he snagged a SECOND missile a few days ago, but put it back in the water "because it was beeping". See local TV video - - > http://www.wesh.com/video/19698679/
  11. Your wish is my command! Photo: [DIRK SHADD | Times] Solomon Rodney, a commercial fisherman, found a live, U.S.-made air-to-air missile, inset, in the Gulf. He hooked the missile about 50 miles off Panama City and brought it ashore Monday on Madeira Beach, where a bomb squad from MacDill Air Force base was summoned to dismantle it. Afterthought: If he was out 14 days in a 41 foot boat, where/how did he safely store 5,000 pounds of grouper?? Much as I love grouper, I'm not so sure I'd eat any of his catch! And don't you think that if he had missiles "exploding over his head all the time", he'd be prudent to find another fishing ground???
  12. Commercial St. Petersburg fisherman Solomon Rodney went for a 14-day fishing trip in his boat Bold Venture in the Gulf of Mexico near Panama City late last month. He caught 5,000 pounds of grouper and an 8-foot-long missile in his longline, reports the St. Petersburg Times. Rodney figured he'd keep the inert missile as a souvenir. Only one problem: It was live. Seems that part of the gulf is used by the U.S. Air Force and Navy for weapons testing and training. Rodney said he often sees missiles while fishing in that area. "I hear them exploding over my head all the time," he said. After Rodney came ashore, emergency officials summoned a bomb squad from MacDill Air Force Base to a marina off the Tom Stuart Causeway where Rodney had docked. Rodney, 37, said the missile had a hole in the back, making it look like it had already exploded, so he thought it was safe. He didn't think there was any danger of it exploding on land after it had bounced around on the roof of his 41-foot vessel for 10 days. "If it was going to explode, it was going to explode a long time ago," he said. Rodney said the MacDill people told him not to pick up any more missiles. "They told me if you find another one, just let it go," he said. We hope this fishman heeds their advice. Or discovers the joy of fly-fishing.
  13. You might want to check this thread; someone else looking for something similar: http://reelboating.com/forums/?showtopic=847
  14. Check your links, Tom - - they're coming up as non-existant (at least they are for ME). I'm getting this message: The account you are trying to access does not exist. Please check the URL and try again.
  15. You've already pretty much identified what I consider the "Must Have" gauges - tachometer, oil pressure and water temperature. You can get by without a speedometer (the speedo pickup on Yamaha outboards is notoriously prone to clogging, anyway) especially if you will have a GPS onboard; that will show your speed much more accurately anyway. A voltage meter is also on my "must" list. I'd also consider adding an hour meter; very helpful in keeping track of maintenance needs. Personally, I'd still prefer keeping a T&T gauge; they're helpful in determining your optimal trim, rather than relying on "eyeballing it". Not all gauges are created equal, but most are adaptable to a variety of engines. New gauges normally come with all the mounting hardware, cable, tubing, etc. and your outboard most likely already has the proper senders and connections installed; just a matter of identifying which one is which and connecting it, following the gauge instructions. Biggest PITA is probably going to be running the cables/tubes from the dash back to the motor unless the boat already has a rigging tube. Ideally, all your gauges should be the same make and series so they all have the same look. Critical? No, but sure looks better in the end. A reasonably proficient DIYer shouldn't have any problem installing new gauges. Do a mock-up of your dash before cutting holes; cut some paper or cardboard templates the size of each gauge, label them, and try different layouts until you're happy with the final arrangement. Make sure critical gauges aren't blocked from easy view by the wheel or other items on the dash. And above all else - - TAKE PICTURES of the work in progress and post them here in the Boat Projects forum; others may learn from your experience. Good luck!
  16. Just goes to show you that good people recognize quality when they see it! The place is shaping up nicely, thanks to Wiley and his Posse. Keep up the great work, folks! Looking forward to even better things to come! p.s. - Did I happen to mention Sandbar.net ?
  17. Dunkin Donuts and Krispy Kreme stores are giving away donuts today. At DD, you get one free donut with the purchase of a drink. At KK, you need only walk through the door for a freebie. Homer Simpson must be in ecstasy!
  18. Never a good thing, but even more so for Michigan. Wiley had posted more detailed info here --->>> http://reelboating.com/forums/?showtopic=1634
  19. Not terribly surprising, given the current economic climate. Here's hopes they can emerge intact, keep producing boats, and keep their employees on board. Genmar, with approximately 1,500 employees and five manufacturing centers, is the builder of 15 premier brands of recreational boats which include, Carver®, Champion®, FinCraft®, Four Winns®, Glastron®, Hydra-Sports®, Larson®, Marquis®, Ranger®, Scarab®, Seaswirl®, Stratos®, Triumph®, Wellcraft®, and Windsor Craft®.
  20. Only if you can assure me you've got SeaTow and a satellite phone; I wouldn't want to get stranded that far offshore.
  21. Have you tried Boat US ? They have insured all of the boats I have owned over the last 20 +/- years. Rates have always been competitive, service very good. I only had one claim, and that was handled very quickly and efficiently.
  22. You mean it doesn't do such favors yet? Mine does! This laptop has me stumped now; I dared to criticize it yesterday in this thread, and today it fired right up in less than a minute and is purring like a kitten. (My earlier post was done on Big Momma, the desktop.) Enough to drive me to drink. Which, come to think of it, sounds like a hell of a good idea.
