    Back again... :)

Yeah, 'Wildman' will be with me, as usual & always...

    Whens the next raft-up?

Funny, but I was thinking about y'all this past weekend (last raft-up when Janet attended and Wildman helped me weigh anchor and reload O2) and wondered if you had found RBC!

Shall we plan a raft-up at Jordan or Falls for this coming Fathers' Day weekend???

  2. O2 came from the factory with Interstate Group 24s; they did well for three seasons and squeaked by for a fourth. My intent from the beginning when I ordered O2 was to use the factory batteries until their end of life and replace with Group 27s or Group 29s/31s

After pricing Interstate, Deka, and others (all of which are good batteries) I ended up buying Wal Mart "Everstart Max" Group 29s (which I believe are made by Johnson Controls). The price was HALF of comparable other brands of Group 29s, so I figured if I got three years out of them, I was still several dollars ahead.

I did a load bank test on them earlier this week; they passed with flying colors. Fourth season, here we come! Needless to say, they'll be load tested several times during the season, and if there's any sign of weakness, buh-bye!

No, I never considered AGMs. IMHO they're too picky about charging voltages and rates.

BTW O2 does have an onboard automatic charger - Guest 2610 or 2611; can't remember exactly which one. I actually had it on my 21'er before installing it on O2. To answer the previous poster's question, on O1 it was extremely nice to be able to plug in the charger and forget it vs. having to climb into the boat, pull the covers off the battery boxes and connect clamps each time....and then later have to switch them to the other battery....then later take them off and stow the charger. IIRC the automatic two-battery charger was only about $100.

  3. I always wanted an Osprey OC. At least until the Revenge came along......maybe even then (shhhhh......don't tell Sheila). The Campion was nice, but not as nice as the Osprey.

Just saw your response - Thanks Rich! When I first saw the O24's on line back in 2001 I was hooked.....ordered O2 four months later.

That Revenge is a really nice ride too!

I'll have to get my hands on a copy of BS&S 13th to check out the pics of Fear Naut

  4. Handle came from the boat name (21' Dixie I owned back in 2001 when I joined thAt other forum)

The boat name came from my profession of 25+ years - facilities electrical engineer - and in addition to many hours involved in electrical design and construction, I spent many holiday weekends (usually Thanksgivings) at work testing OVERCURRENT devices (more commonly known as circuit breakers).

Of course, the O24 is Overcurrent II

  5. FWIW, here are two stern drive boats I've owned for comparison:

    1. 1990 Dixie 821 walkaround cuddy. 165HP Mercruiser 4-cyl (224CID) 2BBL with Alpha One drive and 14x19 prop.

Boat was about 3500# wet. WOT was roughly 38MPH, at about 4600RPM. Cruising speed was about 21MPH at about

    3100RPM if I recall correctly.

    2. 2002 Osprey 24 pilothouse. 270 HP small block Chev 305CID with EFI. (Volvo Penta DuoProp, D4 propset)

The boat weighs about 7100# wet. WOT is about 35 MPH at 5000RPM. Cruising speed is about 3400RPM/24 SMPH at

about 8.5 GPH. WOT fuel consumption is about 17-18 GPH if I recall correctly.
