  1. I use the Vivid white and like it a lot. It looks great when the boat is out of the water and rejects marine growth very well in the water. The only downside of using white is the scumline that shows up from being in the water, but it brushes off very easy.
  2. I'm willing to bet that "Yes1" is the kid....I mean VP of Midnight in this video. Real professional looking. Can you imagine Homeland Security sitting down with this guy to buy like 50 boats? Either that or he is a close friend or employee. He claims the boat runs in the 90s and is the "first boat ever with 5 engines" which we all know isn't true. There are pictures of boats on the internet with 5 and even 6 engines. Nothing against the Midnight boats in general, I really like the 39 with 4 engines. This 5 engine boat was a publicity stunt that didn't end well. They put it in a bunch of boat shows and all kinds of photo opps, there is no reason to get mad when something breaks. Its a boat, something always breaks.
  3. I had to head into this coming in one afternoon. Good thing I was in the canal already, that would have been bad offshore. We still got dumped on hard core, lightning and all.
  4. It happens from time to time. I lost one of the original tabs about 5 years ago, thats when I upgraded to the larger ones I have now. I guess the screws can vibrate lose, that in combination with the increased drag from the barnicles on the bottom of them can do it. I also could have hit something while cruising. To tell you the truth I was shocked to see it missing. I haven't really gotten into it yet to determine exactly what happened.
  5. Went ahead and just called Bennett for info. They told me they don't sell directly to the public and that I would have to buy it through one of their distributors. So the gentleman gave me the part number for the single tab assembly. Sinse West Marine is one of their biggest dealers I just ordered it from the local store. I wasn't shocked at the price of $189.00 sinse I paid around 400 bucks for the pair about 5 years ago. I should have it within a few days.
  6. Hey Tom, I lost one trim tab at some point within the last two weeks. I need to buy just one tab assembly, the system and rams are in tact. I have the dual ram sport tabs, the ones that are 16" long and 12" wide. (ST16) I will be hauling the boat today and then I can get an exact measurement. How can I get one tab? I know they are sold in pairs and I remember paying about 400 bucks for this pair of tabs...just the tabs not including the system. I'm local and can pick it up or I can pay with CC or paypal and you can ship...whever. Thanks Chris
  7. I know the guys at Dusky pretty good. They were sayig they sold quite a few boats. I don't find that hard to believe, their boats give the most bang for the buck, especially in the size catagory. And in this economy a guy that might have bought a 30 something Contender, Sea Vee, Intrepid ect might have gone Dusky so they can get on the water with a big boat at half the price.
  8. I believe the beer sales were way down. I bought much less beer than usual.....reason being......I was in and out of the show in 3 hours where I normally spend at least 6 hours there. I suspect many people spent a lot less time there this year. I got to the show at 10 am on Saturday and I parked in the lot right next to the convention center. I recall a bunch of cars that pulled in the exact time I did were gone before I got to my truck.
  9. Yup....I saw the boat on Sunday but no JT, but a bunch of other guys, maybe about 5 or 6 guys.
  10. I gotta say I was dissapointed with the show this year. I went with the intention of looking at 32-35' class of center consoles with cuddy cabins. These boats would consist of the Scarab 35, Marlago 35, Marlin 35, Intrepid 32/35, Dakota 35 ect. Intrepid was the only one that was there. I was amazed at the lack of boats but not terribly surprised. The convention center had half the boats as usual and there were a lot of empty slips at the Bahia Mar.
  11. Well you are entitled to your opinion. But I don't see anything stupid with the 4 hotties sitting on the back of it. Its a novelty for sure and I probably wouldn't buy one even if I were filthy rich, but I wouldn't mind having the use of one for a weekend. People buy $200K cars capable of going 200 MPH but noplace in the US can you legally drive even half that speed. Another novelty.....stupid? I wouldn't call being able to buy a Ferrari or a Lambo stupid either.
  12. Very cool, they were getting more attention than any of the go fast boats. LOL
  13. He actually downsized recently. He used to have a 100' yacht and an Intrepid 377 as his tender. He was a guest on Big 106 a while back talking about them and he said he was selling the 100 footer because he never uses it. He was also on some TV show that showed his boats, both very sweet. I guess he got rid of the Intrepid and got this Sea Vee open 39.
  14. The total job was $2600.00. That was with me removing all the pieces and bringing them to the guy and reinstalling myself.
  15. Thanks, v70...yeah the stereo rocks pretty good. Wiley, the last time I was in the port was two sundays ago. I stayed away from white this time. White only looks good for a year or so and its tough to keep looking nice.
  16. So I got the upholstery redone. The last upholstery job was done about 4 years ago and it was a cheap job using cheap material. You get what you pay for. This time I went with a textured silver with blue trim and boxing. I think it looks amazing. The vinyl is the best quality and of course most expensive marine vinyl on the market. The guy used that "dry foam" in all the pieces. If you take a piece of this foam and hold it under a water faucet the water flows right through. It holds absolutly no water. The last foam was a sponge and in fact my coaming bolsters were full of water. I gotta give the guy a plug here, if anyone in the SE Florida area needs upholstery or canvas work he's your guy. www.kenhoke.com His name is Ken Hoke and he's in Pompano Beach. His number is 954-253-0993
  17. I ride around with blue LEDs lighting up the inside of my boat and blue under water LEDs lighting up the water on a regular basis. Never been stopped. I don't think the CG or police care as long as the lights aren't flashing and/or above the gunnel.
  18. Uhhhh......yeah you have plenty of truck for that boat. Hell I would pull a 36 footer with that truck.
  19. Sorry...I don't know where I said Mythbusters was the "go to authority on aero- and hydrodynamics" I just watched the show and was wondering if it were possible to get a similar effect in water. Oh and uhhh...they did a scale test in water as well. They put a model of a car with and without dimples and the model with dimples had less resistance. And uhhh....I didn't "assume" anything. I'm just making conversation because I though the results were interesting. I'm not going to carve dimples in the bottom of my Scarab, I'll leave it how the engineers at WellCraft left it.
  20. Yes and no. Lets say you buy a high end boat like an Intrepid brand new. Lets say you spend $200K and the boat is factory loaded with all the bells and wistles. Guys that buy these boats usually only keep them a few years at best and probably don't have to put much more money into them as everything is under warranty. So the guy sells the boat without installing any options or upgrades, its as it left the factory. In most cases you can sell a 2-3 year old Intrepid for the same as what you paid. Though the Intrepids are one of the few CC boats you can do this with. Because of the wait list people are willing to shell out full price for a used boat to avoid the 2-3 year wait. But yes.....a lot of boaters will buy a new boat and keep making improvements until the day they sell it. And with a project boat its worse because they have to actually rebuild the boat itself...then add all the extras. Its just an expensive hobby, I think you could be into gambling, coke and hookers and spend less.
  21. On Mythbusters they actually put a layer of clay on the entire exterior of the car, 800 pounds of it! They had sculpters carve and shape it so it followed the original lines of the car, it looked perfect. Then they did a test run with it nice and smooth. Then they put the dimples in it that were about as round as a soft ball. Then they tested it again......3 MPG more.
  22. Project boats never have an ending "total investment" You will constantly be doing stuff. I have a 1994 Scarab Sport 302. I bought it in 2002 in turn key condition for $26K Well here we are 7 years later and its now the most expensive 1994 Scarab on the water. When I add the $3K I'm now spending on the new upholstery and a few other upgrades I will probably break $90K total "investment". That includes the purchase of the boat itself and 28 grand for new engines. I quote the word investment because that is a sarcastic word to describe any pleasure boat much less a project boat. An investment is something that makes you money. Boats cost you money which makes it a hobby.(unless its a commercial vessel) But is it worth it? Sure it is, if you really like the boat which I do. Some may think its crazy to dump 90 grand into a boat that old. But this spending took place over the course of 7 years. The only expendature I really fealt was the re-power. If I were to sell it now I would only expect to get around $40K......on a good day. In a better economy and boating market maybe $55K. Everything is new and it shows better than most 2 year old boats. Good luck with the project and post pictures please.
  23. Yeah that sounds crazy. But its a known fact that golf balls are dimpled for longer flight. Something about the dimples allows the air to slip over the ball easier. I just watched Myth Busters. The myth was would a dirty car get better milage than a clean car because of the golf ball effect. Well the dirty car got worse milage. But when they put dimples in the car resembling a golf ball the car went from 26 MPG to 29 MPG at 65 MPH. How about dimples on the hull bottom to achieve the same effect? I have heard that some boat racers sand the shine off the bottom to help break the boat from the water. Any thoughts?
  24. Dam it looks like the boat actually ran him over on that first circle. A moron for sure.
  25. Tonight on the season premier Mike will be in Miami to recover and dispose of derilict boats.
