  1. I pull the thermostats and put them in a pot of boiling water. Both of them would open but not completely. After changeing them and running on the muffs for a while. I was getting a water temp of 180 constant. I put the boat in and on the troll of 4 kts. the temp stayed at 172. But running on plane the temp would stay down around 145.

  2. Why do you feel the need to send something like that? You shopped around, made a conscious business decision where to buy, but now you're gonna get in their stuff when you didn't even give 'em a chance to counter or price match? And by email rather than face to face? Were I Chris, I might be tempted to tell you to take your business down the street to where you got the great deal (I would use somewhat more descriptive language, but Chris probaby won't) ... :1925_:

A couple of years ago I did in fact take my business else were. Because they pissed me off. I'm not afraid to do it again. As there are a couple of more shops around which handle my brand of engine. One is less then a mile from ther location. I know they have to drive by it in the morning to get to work. The time I did take my business else were this is were I brought my boat. They sent me a lot of apploigizes to try and get my business back. I just feel like they kicked me in the face when I was down by giving me a quote that was over $800.00 more then the second quote. Even at $2500.00 the guy is still makeing a profit of a couple of hundred.

  3. Below is what I sent to the shop. I tried to keep it short and sweet and I think it will home.

Well Chris I have made up my mind on what I'm going to do with my trailer. I'm going to put it in the recycle bin. I will be makeing a purchase of a new trailer. But the purchase will not be from ####. I have put a down payment on a Load Rite trailer. For much less then you quoted me for a new Karaven trailer. In fact I could have purchased a Karaven trailer for over $800.00 from this dealer less then your quote. So I don't know what gives but I think some body better get a little better grip on the pencil.

  4. Well I think they got the idea that I was going to jump on the deal and spend $3320.00 for thier trailer. Seeing my springs were shot they probably thought I would not dare move the trailer. The front and rear main supports on the trailer were still atached and in fair condition but rusted. Just that when the torssion arms rotted away the springs went up and landed on the main frame of the trailer. I was told by the dealer I bought my Load Rite from. That he could sell me the same exact trailer they were going to sell me. He quoted me a price of $2500.00 and he still would have made a profit on it. That would have been an $820..00 plus profit to the shop. That's takeing advantage of someone that is down. I'm going to send them an e-mail shortly telling them how I feel. They know me well as I have been dealing with them for the past 14 yrs.I've always treated them well and paid all my bills by cash only. Maybe it is time to move along to another adventure.

  5. Well I did a little shopping around and found another dealer within 5 miles. The dealer who I bought the trailer from told me he could sell me the exact same trailer that I have for $2500.00. I think the shop saw that the trailer was in such disrepair. That they thought they would try and capitalize on the sale. I bought a 5 Star/Load Rite which looks like a better quality trailer then the one being offered by the shop. The shop manager was scratching his head when I showed up to pull my trailer out of there. At the time I did not tell them that I had made a purchase. But believe me I will be sending them an e-mail in the near future. I know the ecconomy is tough but an $800.00 difference in price between two delears.

A of shot of the torsion arms/equlalizers sorry for the quality picture from my cell phone.

  6. Thanks for all the input on this guys. I went and saw them at the shop today for the verdict on rebuilding the lower 1/2 of the trailer. Which was to replace spindles and axles, and springs and hangers. They wanted $1800.00 to do the job. They told me that seeing the trailer is 8 yrs. old and the price is more then 1/2 the cost of a new trailer. I might want to consider going with a new trailer. I asked them to give me a price on a new trailer. $3300.00 for a roller trailer. I asked them about the price on a bunk trailer $3100.00. I told them to hold on and give me a day and I would get back to them. So I got home and called another local dealer and asked for a price. He gave me a price for a tandem axle trailer with 4500 gvw. Which I looked at and it is very nice and well built. The price he told me was $2800.00. So guess were I'm going for a new trailer tomorrow ?

  7. Last year I had to replace a couple of rollers on it. I did notice a lot of surface rust on the springs. So I took my bfh to it and 1/2 inch thick chunks of rust came off the axles and springs. I have looked in a trailer parts store on line and added up the price to replace every thing under there. It came to $600+.

  8. I had a problem the other day with my boat engine over heating. I called the marine shop were I brought it and they told me the thermostats were frozen. While on the phone they told me that my trailer now has a problem. They told me that the torsion bars between the springs were rotten completely through and there is nothing holding the front and rear springs together. Also the axles are pretty well rusted. I told them to get me a price on repairing the trailer. At what point or price should I consider getting a new trailer? This trailer I have is a little over 8 years old.

  9. also have VP outdrive (with a 4 cyl Chevy on a 18' Regal) and keep it on a sling on the intercoastal.

been having "battery" issues with hard to start, jumping oil pressure gauges, etc.

finally the exhaust blower motor blew 5 amp fuses so found the 3rd (ground) wire disconnected (corroded) and also the kill switch wire was about to go.

wired 'em back up and now the sucker works.

i know this doesn't sound related (how can a blower motor have anything to do with the ignition circuit) but i'm agreeing with the others on checking all your wiring.

You can take your altenator off and have it rebuilt. Which will save you a lot of $$.

  10. I'd pull the heads off and see what you have. It could be that the gasket never sated correctly. Seeing the person who built he engine went out of business. He might have just thrown th heads on and tighten them down not fallowing th bolt pattern or torque rate. While you have the heads off check to see the surfaces had been planed before instalation.

  11. I have a 2001 Optimax 150 hp. Yesterday was my maiden voyage for the season. The engine fired off on the second turn. I checked the tell tail and there was a nice stream coming out. I watched the temp rise and hold at 140 degrees before I cast off. I made it to the mouth of the marina and pushed the throttle forward to power up. The throttle cable locked in place as the Guard Alarm kicked in not allowing the engine to go above 1000 rpm's like it is suppose to do. I looked at the temp. reading and it was showing 185 degrees. I turned around and head for a dock. When I got there the reading was down to 165 and dropping. I shut down the engine in hopes of finding something wrapped around the intake and there was nothing. I restarted the engine and release the throttle I brought the rpms to 1200 and watched the temp. It started to raise again. It got to 195 degrees and suddenly to dropped down again to 142. Then it went back up. I put my hand in the tell tail water and it was cool to the touch. Because the temp kept going up and down I pulled the boat. I replaced the water pump and thermos and popit valve in the winter of 2007. So this is the second year on them. Could this be a bad thermostat or a bad temp sensor. Any ideas would be apprecated.
