  1. I still don't understand. If the boat is self bailing why do you need a sump with a pump?

So they are not self bailing?

You can't see the scuppers in that photo. Look at the transom photo.

Its a great set up. There is also a plug in that bilge section that you can pull and run with it out. Everything drains to that section, water, blood, scales..etc, the pump does what its intended for if you desire to use it..and can also be lifted out with its mounting plate on top of the deck if need be to clean that area... or there is a switch to disable it. Totally Self bailing, plug is at water line..deck is above that, and there is also a bilge plug, underneath that, but I never had 1 drop of water below the deck. Here are a few pics showing both the drain plugs, and relationship of the waterline as the boat sits in the water. Id rather have a system that I can see, have easy access to, vs having to go below a deck, or through a inspection plate to check if my bilge is working or not. Jeff

  2. If you are going with an ETEC big block why get a 225? go for the 250. I quess the 250 might be about the same weight as the 225? But the F225 you have is a great motor and I personally would not swap it out just to save 100 lbs or so. Did you know the new F300's weight about 40 lbs less than the F250 and I assume your F225 too? The F300 seems irresistable to me.

The F225 runs good, but it just seems anemic to me. It's got low hours, but it's 8 years old. In the shape it's in I'm hoping to get a decent trade/sale price for it. 100# may not seem like much, but I would be willing to bet sitting out on that 36" braket it will make a difference.

  3. I believe drilling should continue, but I believe Louisiana should quit being the whipping boy for the oil companies, as Louisiana has the commodity everyone wants and, to a certain extent, they hold the cards. I am not talking about over-taxing the industry, but I do believe LA could do a much better job of forcing oil companies to be better stewards of the land and environment. Louisiana is disappearing quickly due to oil exploration and, although they are supposed to mitigate their damage, take a look at a satellite picture of south Louisiana sometime and look at the endless miles of canals dug for the purpose of oil and gas exploration. What this has done is destabilize the marsh, allowing erosion and more and more salt water intrusion, as well as the removal of coastal buffers of storm surge. It would take trillions, not billions, of dollars to reclaim this land and protect what is still there. Cutting a couple of holes in the bank of the MS River and opening a few of the diversion canals will never keep up, especially considering the fact that the river carries only a fraction of the land-building sediment it did when these areas were created, due to flood control and bank stabilization revetments.

This is basically what I said. Let us get out fiar share of oil royalties so we can combat coastal erosion, and better our public healthcare/school systems.

  4. Son of _______________

I just spent the last 30 minutes writing a response and it was lost.

    Well here's a recap:

-Basically no fishing since late April/Early May since my area (Fourchon, LA) is closed.

    -I've seen some sheen

-Keep drilling. We don't shut down air traffic for months after a plane crash.

-I believe if we can keep most of the oil out our marshes the gulf will rebond very quickly.

  5. I have one on my 19' CC and love it. I got the 13" wheel due to space, but the knob makes all the difference. It may not be an Edson, but seriously, it looks great and does the job. I really can't see how some "more expensive" wheel would do a better job than what I have. Nothing against the Edson brand or others, but why spend more for something when you don't have to. Anyway, that is just my opinion - get it and enjoy!

Thanks for the feed back. Does the knob spend freely? DOes it ride on bearings? My brother has the edson and I really like it, but can't see paying the price.

  6. Anybody run a Schmitt wheel in there boat? Was thinking of getting this one: http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/producte/10001/-1/10001/82242/377%20710/0/steering%20wheels/Primary%20Search/mode%20matchallpartial/0/0?N=377 710&Ne=0&Ntt=steering wheels&Ntk=Primary Search&Ntx=mode matchallpartial&Nao=0&Ns=0&keyword=steering wheels&isLTokenURL=true&storeNum=6&subdeptNum=222&classNum=223 for my boat. I'm sure it's no Edson, but I can afford this one. Never though those knobs would be usefull until I got hydraulic steering. Man you gotta crank forever to get from lock to lock!

  7. I will confess to have dreamed of some day owning a Contender. After reading Mr. Neber's statement I no longer have that dream. Ever heard the saying the customer is always right? If you don't want your customers jumping waves with your boats quit advertising in

EVERY magazine with pictures of your boats in the air!!!!! Joe Neber must have to turn sidways to fit through a door with that head!!!!!!

  8. Plenty fireworks, horns and even flares going off near my house last night after the game. It was a great game. It went how I wanted it to, but now how I expected. WHO DAT!

Here is a video from our local paper from Buffalo Wild Wings

  9. Just bought a 215 Kencraft that has a wooden cored transon. Trying to decide if I should remove the tabs, bracket, transducer, etc from the transom so I can make sure everything is sealed and wood is not exposed. Would you go through the trouble? Why/Why not?

Boat is 2002 with only 188 hours and in great shape.
