  1. Trolling in january? You have $12k in displays on a "Bay boat" that you want to take 40 miles offshore, and you don't know if you have enough power to keep them going? This is wrong on so many levels. But if you are worried about battery reserves, either add another battery and keep it charged and offline or carry a portable gennie. You can use it to run the blender; those mojita's don't mix themselves you know.
  2. This isn't an apples to apples comparison. Twins will get lower fuel economy than a like single of comparable hp. Older engines will get lower economy than newer. If you went to a new single, you may have yet higher economy.
  3. I used to have a twin engine outboard. Felt very safe when I had older two strokes, but with new four strokes it seemed kind of overkill. So what can wrong that would have you floating around? Bad fuel will cripple both engines, no joy there. Hitting something and ruining a prop? Or maybe spinning a prop? I guess you could carry a cheap spare. Changing it might be a challenge, but it's doable. Anything more serious probably won't happen to a new engine. But you never know. I'd probably go with the single and sea tow. Get yourself a good sea anchor as well as the other stuff mentioned, and a sat phone to call when you are out of radio range. Oh, and double up on maintenance and spare parts/filters.
  4. That's google xlation for you..... wind should have been belly. As in he has a fast boat, but no balls......
  5. Portada del sitio puede tener un barco muy rápido, pero tiene un vientre muy débil.
  6. Ok guys, was there a race and who won. Homesite would have 9 threads going if he won a race, even against a boat with trips. So either he lost or there wasn't a race. Which is it? Just curious.
  7. That liettle girly buouy shouldn't have sunk that boat. Stuffing it's nose into a wave shouldn't have sunk that boat. Striking a larger submerged object could sink the boat, but shouldn't have caused that kind of damage. Ergo. It appears the boat just fell apart. Maybe it had help, but it shouldn't have happened. I wouldn't feel safe in one of those anywhere but tied to a dock on a calm day. But that is just me.
  8. The fall show in boston was always poorly attended. The spring show was bigger, but even it wasn't anything to fight city traffic over. I did get to the newport fall show this year. It seemed like foot traffic was ok on Sunday. They had a fair amount of inventory in the water and a pretty good mix of vendors in the tents. What really struck me were the number of mega-yachts at the brokers docks. I'm not talking the 65' pigs yyou normally see. I'm talking 100+' beasts that went well into the millions USED. They had to have 20 or more of them lined up like coffins. I wouldnn't read too much into the closing of the boston show. Things are bad, but that show was always on the edge.
  9. I already did. Upgraded from a 25 twin ob to a 35 downeast single diesel. I still own two boats, but hopefully only for another few days.
  10. It was signed on 7/1. it is now required. It's only a tax. Nothing more. It doesn't matter where the money goes, they wash funds around all the time. With or without the tax, no more money will go to marine enforcement or conservation. none. zip. zilch. It never would have even under the best wording proposed.
  11. Still not signed or required...... Here's an update directly from DEP: Connecticut Marine Waters Fishing License: Update June 23, 2009 1. A marine waters fishing license is currently NOT required. 2. The bill that establishes a marine waters fishing license has been passed by the legislature but will not be effective unless and until the Governor signs it into law. 3. If and when the Marine Waters Fishing License (MWFL) bill becomes law, Environmental Conservation Police efforts with respect to the license will be focused on education and outreach during the remainder of 2009.
  12. I actually have one that I just took off the boat I just bought. I have no idea how well it worked, it was in my way when I upgraded electronics. The last owner said it got him about 10 miles. It is made by digital antenna, and has a 4' cell antenna made by digital. I'll probably sell it one of these days. I just have to figure out a fair price.
