  1. All I use in DF140 Suzuki's is 100% synthetic. I use mobile one 10w40 in the winter and 20w50 in the summer. That is what the Suzuki owners manual calls for. synthetics give superior film strength and performance over all regular and blended oils. Look at what they put in airplanes, high performance cars and expensive industrial and farm equipment. As far as corrosion resistance I think it is impossible for any part coated in any oil to corrode. It is proven that synthetics offer the most protection during cold starts which is when most wear occurs

  2. I have made posts here about THT and now I wish I hadn't. The rules on my Alloy site are simple , NO BASHING period.

As you have noticed not many have replied to this Topic , Chest pounding and comparisons are not needed here, YES POSITIVE FEED BACK is a good thing to Wiley and I feel it should be left at that.

Wiley has built this new site and has done it right so far . Reel Boating should go far and long here on the net, GOOD job Wiley.

I think we should just let REEL BOATING speak for it self as time moves on and drop any mention of THT as far as , Coulda, woulda, shouda's and just move ahead.

OK, I'm off my Soap box and Wiley if you don't feel my post here is helpful in any way just wack it.

The bashing gets real old, more often than not, if you asked a question(on the other site) you would start a war, and maybe, or maybe not, your question would be answered after the dust settled!

  3. Don't want to beat the brand, but I had excellent results with their eagle products, not so much with lowrance. Several people I fish with have swore off them. Customer service seems to be their biggest complaint. One friend has gone through three screens, Fogging,Freezing up- not cold, and loosing bottom (combo unit). Have problems with most units from time to time, but it seems Lowrance is over the top.

  4. Who's up for some long sleeve ReelBoating logo tees? White, no pocket, front & back logo and ReelBoating.com down the sleeve.

Costly for me to produce so I would have to pre-order them and make them part of the upcoming Reel Deal Club.

Reel Deal Club will put other forum membership clubs to shame ;)

Who is in? Charter RD club membership and shirt. Still working on the price. Unfortunately can't offer the $29.99 prices anymore. :(

    I'll take an xl

  5. There are about 1,000,000 plus Iron Workers that will open a LARGE can of whoopazz if you call one us a JOE . A JOE is a dumbazz to us , a Safety problem or a LOOSER.

Just telling ya what JOE means to a Iron Worker.

Glad I'm not an iron worker, cause my name is Joe, and i'm an ordinary Joe. Is that what you are refering to? Cause ordinary Joe's are what this country is! Just not sure on the Joe boating thing though. Carry on!

  6. Hello Wiley and the rest!

I needed a boating fix due to a certain web site is down and look what I found!

The waves are building here and waiting for the rain. Look at this idiot on the rocks, I didn't see him until a few hours later when I uploaded the image to my computer.

  7. Mike,

Wondering if the 125 has a diagnostic port on it. If I'm not mistaken, the 125 was formerly a Force motor that was rebadged as a "Mercury Classic" motor...not too sophistocated.

Mike F, as Mike C said, call a dealer's service department, give them the S/N of your motor, and see if the hours can be determined.

I've had one since new, the answer is no from my merc dealer.

  8. As I look forward to make ReelBoating look LESS like the last boating forum I created - I will begin making some changes.

I feel there is more to offering a boating and fishing community then simply having a ton of categories on a forum. In fact, I would like RB forums to just be a part of a bigger online presense.

Does ReelBoating really need a dedicated Marine Electronics Forum? I know it worked on my last site but am debating if it's really necessary, or should these discussions simply be in the boating forum area?

The new site layout debuting in a few weeks will have a search box which is predominantly featured on all pages so finding electronics topics and discussions shouldn't be an issue.

I guess I'm leanning toward ReelBoating being an open offshore community of all types of discussions and not a forum where people bash products all day. ;)

With forums, I tend to like the "less is more" philosophy however am open to suggestions.

    Thanks

Boating, is Boating. I see no need for a seperate catagory. Heck, I think more people would learn about electronics if there wasen't a seperate catagory.

  9. I have a 1999 25 hp 2 stroke Merc outboard. It has tiller steering, and both the throttle and the shift are built into the throttle twist grip.

Today I went to 3 different Mercury dealers and asked this question: "Can I use my binnacle mount Morse control with Mercury cables to remotely control the throttle and shifting of this engine?" I got 3 different answers.

    Dealer # 1: "Nope. Can't be done."

Dealer # 2: "Sure, it's easy. Just buy a set of Mercury cables and you are good to go."

Dealer # 3: "It can be done, but it will cost about $1,500...Mercury controls the parts. You need a control bod and a bunch of other stuff. Just sell the motor and buy one with a conventional shifter on the side of the engine."

Can anyone tell me which answer is the correct one?

I'm going with door number 2. Have done it many times over the years. Not sure about the 99 25, but have converted merc's and johnrudes for years in that hp range. Most manafactures have mounting gromets built in at factory for exterior cables. I'd go to a site like teleflex.com, or whatever teleflex's site is, and check for compatable cables..Dealers don't know(or care) about this conversion! I'd bet money on this one!
