  2. Excellent post. You bet I will contact all the people involved. This is an outrage and insult to the boating community. Yea there are drunken boat fools, but the cops can collar them and make it expensive for their childish behavior. Well done. I'll be emailing everyone tomorrow and will post any replies.

    Response:

While we certainly understand your position and wish we could have docking

for everyone who would like to enjoy SunFest by boat, doing so simply is not

feasible. Permitting, logistics, safety and cost are all issues. And even if

these could all be resolved, the number of boats that could use the existing

    facility would be extremely small.

This year we are making coming to the festival by boat better by

substantially lowering the cost of the water taxi service. We are also

allowing boaters to drop of their passengers at the dock, reducing the

number of people that need to use, and pay for, the water taxi service.

These changes make coming by water quite possibly cheaper than coming by car

and parking. It's the best we can do and seems to many boaters we've spoken

with to be a very reasonable accommodation.

Is it wishful thinking for boaters to back in and tie up with anchor off bow? Would hold many more boats. Oh never mind, this takes skill.

  4. From what I witnessed everyone handled their job quite well.

I didn't have the VHF on, I just happened to look out back and see how close the Bert was to the seawall. When I saw the tiny bit of smoke I put the two together and grabbed the camera.

FLL police (Harbor Patrol) first on the scene, then TowBoat, then Coast Guard, then the fire boat. There were fire trucks everywhere including in front of here. 4 firemen stood out back with me during the fire, really all they could do is watch.

The smoke had filled the cabin at 2:34pm - The flames made their appearance at 2:41pm. It didn't take long. Can only imagine if it was gas and not diesel.

Everyone reacted quickliy and calmly. I was even surprised how long the 2 guys remained on the yacht. People around here really know their stuff when it comes to boating.

Good Lord............not a pretty sight. That rig is a total loss. Hope the insurance covers all

  5. <!--quoteo(post=21969:date=Aug 22 2009, 08:21 AM:name=honu)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (honu @ Aug 22 2009, 08:21 AM) <a href="index.php?act=findpost&pid=21969"><{POST_SNAPBACK}></a></div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->I'm purchasing one this weekend from BOE. I'll let you know how it goes. My boat doesn't have a good place to mount a thru hull and I'm on a trailer. I'm a career sonarman and the specs on this transducer look good on paper, especially the sensitivity (just as important as the transmit power). I'll let you know how it works after my first trip to the canyon edge. I'm attaching this to a Raymarine system.

    It does look big!<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Still waiting to mount mine on my transom. You only get 1 shot lining it up and drilling holes for the lag bolts that are long. Any suggestions how to properly line this beast up? I found a spot midway up the transom from the keel. I put a flat board under the boat extending beyond the end, put the 'ducer flush with the board pointing straight down. I think when I'm at plane, the 'ducer will not cause any wash/spray in this position. I'd appreciate any thoughts before I drill and plug with 5200.

    UPDATE:

After doing proper research, I sent the unit back and went with a new thru hull. Installed, glassed in, re-painted. Looks factory. Got too many reasons why NOT to have this external unit. Works like a champ.

  6. Where do you want me to start?

    WELCOME TO REELBOATING!

    :rb-rules:

My guess is that because of a few fanatical extremists' posts in the Bilge dept, somebody at management (IB) decided to shut it down without warning. Lawyers and possibly Federal LE had the site surrounded. Some topics were borderline and direct threats to the current administration. Not to mention testing free speech to the limit. Oh and did I mention the proliferation of hatred? Advertisers steer clear of controversy.

RB is a a "G" rated forum. I like it that way. If you want to spew hate and insult other members, RB is not the place.........just my opinion.

  7. Congrats to your continued success. I hated that original Dusky drive that was on my 23 Seacraft in the 70's. A heavy fiberglass bucket that filled with water rendering the boat a dog at the hole shot. Ditched it for an aluminum bracket. What's the new design? Any pix available?

You guys are fortunate to be floating in this current marine industry.

  8. I am just starting to email this gentleman so details are somewhat sketchy. (BTW, I posted this on another forum and I've gottem plenty of views but not too many comments. Hopefully, I get better response here. :D )

He wants to trade to something smaller and I’ve been kicking around the idea of getting something larger.

    What I’ve got:

    1995 Edgewater 180 CC

1998 Evinrude Ocean Pro 150 – Carbureted (Hours are probably in the neighborhood of 250)

    2002 EZ Loader Aluminum Trailer

New BRP Cyclone SS 4-Blade Prop

    Smart Tabs

    Racor Filter

    New Fuel Lines

Trailer Tires 18 months old [50 miles on them]

    Newer Gauges

    Navman Fishfinder

Magellan Hand Held GPS with RAM mount

    Backup Aluminum Prop

    What he’s offering:

    1988 Hydra-Sport Vector CC2000

    1990 Yamaha 225 (625 Hours)

    T-Top

    Bennett Trim Tabs

    Hydraulic Steering

    GPS

    Fishfinder

    VHF Radio

    CD Player

    Leaning Post

    SS Prop

    Backup Prop

    Tandem Aluminum Trailer

He says the Vector is valued between $8,000 and $9,000.

My boat is in very good condition. I would grade my rig as a strong B+ or a A-. I haven’t seen his setup yet, but assuming it is in equal condition, would you make the trade? Would you expect to give or get cash in the exchange?

Also, if you have any information on the Vector CC2000 or 1990 Yamaha 225 I would appreciate it.

The Yammy 225 is a gas pig by today's standards. It is approaching rebuild status. I'd do a cold comp check on all cylinders, take off the manifolds and inspect the piston heads for rust as well as inspecting the block walls for signs of scorching. Drop the lower unit and have the large ring behind the prop inspected for salt water corrosion/seizing, which will crack the housing if it's seized. ($800/rebuild). Well worth the money to have it done, 'cuz a rebuild is $2k plus for a powerhead rebuild. Those motors are notorious for carb/fuel injector fouling.

Personally, I'd keep looking. Hope this helps.
