  2. Not verified but much fun to read. AN ACTUAL CRAIG'S LIST PERSONALS AD To the Guy Who Tried to Mug Me in Downtown Savannah night before last. Date: 2009-05-27, 1:43 a.m. E.S.T. I was the guy wearing the black Burberry jacket that you demanded that I hand over, shortly after you pulled the knife on me and my girlfriend, threatening our lives. You also asked for my girlfriend's purse and earrings. I can only hope that you somehow come across this rather important message. First, I'd like to apologize for your embarrassment; I didn't expect you to actually crap in your pants when I drew my pistol after you took my jacket. The evening was not that cold, and I was wearing the jacket for a reason. My girlfriend had just bought me that Kimber Model 1911 .45 ACP pistol for my birthday, and we had picked up a shoulder holster for it that very evening. Obviously you agree that it is a very intimidating weapon when pointed at your head .. isn't it?! I know it probably wasn't fun walking back to wherever you'd come from with that brown sludge in your pants. I'm sure it was even worse walking bare-footed since I made you leave your shoes, cell phone, and wallet with me. [That prevented you from calling or running to your buddies to come help mug us again]. After I called your mother or "Momma" as you had her listed in your cell, I explained the entire episode of what you'd done. Then I went and filled up my gas tank as well as those of four other people in the gas station, -- on your credit card. The guy with the big motor home took 150 gallons and was extremely grateful! I gave your shoes to a homeless guy outside Vinnie Van Go Go's, along with all the cash in your wallet. [That made his day!] I then threw your wallet into the big pink "pimp mobile" that was parked at the curb .... after I broke the windshield and side window and keyed the entire driver's side of the car. Later, I called a bunch of phone sex numbers from your cell phone. Ma Bell just now shut down the line, although I only used the phone for a little over a day now, so what 's going on with that? Earlier, I managed to get in two threatening phone calls to the DA's office and one to the FBI, while mentioning President Obama as my possible target. The FBI guy seemed really intense and we had a nice long chat (I guess while he traced your number etc.). In a way, perhaps I should apologize for not killing you ... but I feel this type of retribution is a far more appropriate punishment for your threatened crime. I wish you well as you try to sort through some of these rather immediate pressing issues, and can only hope that you have the opportunity to reflect upon, and perhaps reconsider, the career path you've chosen to pursue in life. Remember, next time you might not be so lucky.Have a good day! Thoughtfully yours, Alex Numbnuts P.S. Remember this motto ... An armed society makes for a more civil society!
  3. There are already enough boaters running into eachother out there. Let's not make it easier by making it hard to see eachother.
  4. Looks like this guy should have been yanked out long before this tragedy took place. The warning signs were there. He even asked to leave! WASHINGTON – His name appears on radical Internet postings. A fellow officer says he fought his deployment to Iraq and argued with soldiers who supported U.S. wars. He required counseling as a medical student because of problems with patients. There are many unknowns about Nidal Malik Hasan, the man authorities say is responsible for the worst mass killing on a U.S. military base. Most of all, his motive. For six years before reporting for duty at Fort Hood, Texas, in July, the 39-year-old Army major worked at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center pursuing his career in psychiatry, as an intern, a resident and, last year, a fellow in disaster and preventive psychiatry. He received his medical degree from the military's Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Md., in 2001. While an intern at Walter Reed, Hasan had some "difficulties" that required counseling and extra supervision, said Dr. Thomas Grieger, who was the training director at the time. Grieger said privacy laws prevented him from going into details but noted that the problems had to do with Hasan's interactions with patients. He recalled Hasan as a "mostly very quiet" person who never spoke ill of the military or his country. "He swore an oath of loyalty to the military," Grieger said. "I didn't hear anything contrary to those oaths." But, more recently, federal agents grew suspicious. At least six months ago, Hasan came to the attention of law enforcement officials because of Internet postings about suicide bombings and other threats, including posts that equated suicide bombers to soldiers who throw themselves on a grenade to save the lives of their comrades. They had not determined for certain whether Hasan is the author of the posting, and a formal investigation had not been opened before the shooting, said law enforcement officials who spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to discuss the case. Federal authorities seized Hasan's computer Friday during a search of his apartment in Killeen, Texas, said a U.S. military official who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the ongoing investigation. In an interview with The Washington Post, Hasan's aunt, Noel Hasan of Falls Church, Va., said he had been harassed about being a Muslim in the years after the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks and he wanted out of the Army. "Some people can take it and some people cannot," she said. "He had listened to all of that and he wanted out of the military." She said he had sought a discharge from the military for several years, and even offered to repay the cost of his medical training. A military official told The Associated Press that Hasan was in the preparation stage of deployment, which can take months. The official said Hasan had indicated he didn't want to go to Iraq but was willing to serve in Afghanistan. The official did not have authorization to discuss the matter publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity. A second military official said Hasan's family has Palestinian roots. There have been reports that he was harassed for his Muslim religion, but the official says there is no indication Hasan filed a complaint within the military about that. Terrorism task force agents plan to interview several of Hasan's relatives Friday, according to a law enforcement official who spoke on condition of anonymity because the person was not authorized to discuss the case. Noel Hasan said her nephew "did not make many friends" and would say "they military was his life." A cousin, Nader Hasan, told The New York Times that after counseling soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan with post-traumatic stress disorder, Hasan knew war firsthand. "He was mortified by the idea of having to deploy," Nader Hasan said. "He had people telling him on a daily basis the horrors they saw over there." Federal law-enforcement agents ordered an evacuation of the apartment complex where Hasan lived in Killeen, Texas, Thursday night and conducted a search of his home, said Hilary Shine, director of public information for the city. She didn't say what was found during the search. Officials said earlier that federal search warrants were being drawn up to authorize the seizure of his computer. Retired Army Col. Terry Lee, who said he worked with Hasan, told Fox News that Hasan had hoped President Barack Obama would pull troops out of Afghanistan and Iraq. Lee said Hasan got into frequent arguments with others in the military who supported the wars, and had tried hard to prevent his pending deployment. Col. Kimberly Kesling, deputy commander of clinical services at Darnall Army Medical Center at Fort Hood, said she had known Hasan. "You wouldn't think that someone who works in your facility and provided excellent care for his patients, which he did, could do something like this," Kesling said. She praised his work ethic, saying, "In my personal interactions, there was never any indication he would do something like this." Kesling described him as "a quiet man who wouldn't seek the limelight" and said she was 'shocked' when she heard that he was the man suspected of carrying out the shootings. Hasan attended prayers regularly when he lived outside Washington, often in his Army uniform, said Faizul Khan, a former imam at a mosque Hasan attended in Silver Spring, Md. He said Hasan was a lifelong Muslim. "I got the impression that he was a committed soldier," Khan said. He spoke often with Hasan about Hasan's desire for a wife. On a form filled out by those seeking spouses through a program at the mosque, Hasan listed his birthplace as Arlington, Va., but his nationality as Palestinian, Khan said. "I don't know why he listed Palestinian," Khan said, "He was not born in Palestine." Nothing stood out about Hasan as radical or extremist, Khan said. "We hardly ever got to discussing politics," Khan said. "Mostly we were discussing religious matters, nothing too controversial, nothing like an extremist." Hasan earned his rank of major in April 2008, according to a July 2008 Army Times article. He served eight years as an enlisted soldier. Military records show he also served in the ROTC as an undergraduate at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg and received a bachelor's degree in biochemistry there in 1997. But college officials said Friday that Hasan graduated with honors in biochemistry in 1995 and there was no record of him serving in any ROTC program. He previously had attended Barstow Community College in Barstow, Calif., and Virginia Western Community College in Roanoke, Va., according to Virginia Tech records. ___

  6. crossing state lines and country borders gets real tough when it comes to law. They have better things to do than try to chase these people down. Now if they creat a worldwide task force, sign me up. I would be happy to surf the web all day and travell the world looking for these guys.
  7. Dude! You werent supposed to tell anyone! Great, there goes the neighborhood.

  9. Not a bad idea at all. I can rephrase it to be boat bucks. Maybe we can get the wrap designed by a graphic artist member to photoshop it to the pictrues of said ficticious boat. We will also need to name her. That will be later in the thread though. The naming process takes up way to much space to do now. Here is the tally now: Cost of boat $2500.00 So far we have a pair of pre-loved Zukes with gauges and controls $18,000.00 Sell the lower units for $500 per -$1000.00 Scored one fishing net $0.00 New Transom $4000.00 Furuno NavNet vx2 C-Map NT+ system (7" - 24nm) $700.00 Total investment so far $24,200.00
  10. Just a heads up. An old cowroker of mine tagged me on a link on Facebook. It was titled "Is that you in this video" . I clicked like a fool and it opened some foreign language page then an error popped up. I had another error pop up right after it but it vanished. Then I see him posting that he was hacked on facebook and it is not him posting the links and not to click on them. No idea what may happen since I clicked on it but apparently everyone on his friend list got the same tag from him. It would nto surprise me if my friend list gets tagged on something similar. So now we have to confirm the facebook blogs before we click on them? efing hackers always have to ruin a good thing. Just a heads up for those that partake in the whole FB thing
  11. yep. it is a CC and has a top. Top looks to be in OK shape so I think we can reuse it. But wiring and batteries are definitly in order. A trailer might be usefull as well. whatcha got? As a reminder of what we are working on, check out the first post of this thread. there is a link there that has a full description with pictures
  12. Thats a lot for $700.00 but we can list it if no one else objects. If someone chimes in to say it is wrong, we will pull it off the list. But we are looking for bargains here so let's roll with it for now. Cost of boat $2500.00 So far we have a pair of pre-loved Zukes with gauges and controls $18,000.00 Sell the lower units for $500 per -$1000.00 Scored one fishing net $0.00 New Transom $4000.00 Furuno NavNet vx2 C-Map NT+ system (7" - 24nm) $700.00 Total investment so far $24,200.00 What else do we have out there that we should be adding? Keep in mind guys, if you have something for sale, while this is not a for sale forum, chime in and can use it an the price for our project.
  13. Alrighthythen. Now we are talking. So if I read that right, $700.00 gets us the VX2 system plus extra chips? Did it include all of the stuff listed under teh Available components line?
  14. The seller states that he has two sets of props, gauges and everything. I can assume he has the cables as well. Just in case, who can find some cables for this project? Maybe used? Or will the existing ones be serviceable with some cleaning and lube? We still need electronics. Lets see what we can find out there in the way of used but newer FF, GPS or combo packages. So far the tally is holding at: Cost of boat $2500.00 So far we have a pair of pre-loved Zukes with gauges and controls $18,000.00 Sell the lower units for $500 per -$1000.00 Scored one fishing net $0.00 New Transom $4000.00 Total investment so far $23,500.00
  15. Very Nice! Thats what we are looking for here. Any insight on what we will be needing for our little project?
  16. Since this is just an excersize and we are not actually building this boat in real life, we should figure toasted motors. No way to really get our hands on them to be sure. But the idea of selling off damaged parts can definitly be figured in. If someone got $200.00 for selling locked up motors to a scrap yard, chime in, we can use that as part of the overall plan to recoup cash for the project. Has to be realistic though, don't tell me you sold your dead motor to your ex-brother in law's layer for $1000.00. If you have a way to restore or rebuild components like the helm or steering rams and have done it and know the cost, let us know. It can be an option. That brings up a point. fater reading some of the posts I think some have missed the point to this. This is not an actuall real build up, I did not buy the boat nor am I going to buy this particullar one. This is as stated, an excercise. I am using the boat I listed as an example for a rebuild on paper only. Just something to see what we as a group could put this boat back on the water for. Even if it is cursed because it sank already. I am definilty not a believer in that one. I tore my shorts on my cleat last summer and my boat has never been on the bottom. Stuff happens. So for those who are not supersticious who woud like to take part, post away. Let's see what we can come up with.
  17. OK, so lets go middle ground on the transom and say 4k. heres the list so far Cost of boat $2500.00 So far we have a pair of pre-loved Zukes with gauges and controls $18,000.00 Sell the lower units for $500 per -$1000.00 Scored one fishing net $0.00 New Transom $4000.00 Total investment so far $23,500.00
  18. OK. I will try to keep a tally on everything. Cost of boat $2500.00 So far we have a pair of pre-loved Zukes with gauges and controls $18,000.00 Sell the lower units for $500 per -$1000.00 Scored one fishing net $0.00 Total investment so far $19,500.00 Any thoughts on what the mid sections from the old motors could go for? Let's play it safe and figure in a transom worst case scenario. WHo knows what that would cost? We still have A lot more to go guys.
  19. I have always wanted to pick up a project boat. Kind of start from scratch and build her up but have been afraid of getting in over my head or runing over budget to the point of "should have just bought a new boat" status. But I would still love to do it in the off season. Here is an excercise for those that are curious the way I am or those that have done it before. Take the boat I have info listed on below as an example. ************************************************** 1987 Hydrasport 250CC This vessel filled with water and partially submerged. The motors were pickled, but are reportedly locked. The electrical did get wet as well. Here is a link to a full description of the boat and its situation: http://www.cooperss.com/1-1-25915-Hydra-Sp...o%20Gallery#tab Overall, the boat looks decent for its age and having been submerged. From the pictures it looks like it is very clean in general. With engines locked and electronics having been wet, I assume it is all scrap now. So, class, here is our homework,(should you choose to participate). Lets rebuild this boat on paper to be a good useable fishing boat. we don't need infrared or side scan, 5 million mile radar or anything too crazy or 100k in electronics here, lets make this a "normal" or practical boat that could be used by the average or maybe slightly above average boater. Build it on a budget like you planned on using it for a few years as your own. Not the end all of ultimate boats but a real nice enjoyable pleasure boat bought on a budget. What steps need to be taken to strip her down, prepare for new gear and what gear would you choose to set her up. Engines, props, steering, rigging, electrical, charging system, communications, GPS, FF, seating, trim tabs and all of that should be figured into the project. Costs as well as the best suited equipment for the job should be considered and posted. Now I am sure there will be some outrageous stuff to follow but maybe as a group we could end up with a happy medium and a pretty nice boat. As a disclaimer, I have nothing to do with the company I linked to other than being a visitor to their site and a dreamer. No, I am not using you guys to do the planning for my own project. Ok, I may take some ideas and information from it as will many of us hopefully. I just think it would intersting to see everyones ideas, tricks and tips for a practical rebuild of a once proud boat that was saved from the deep. Lets call it recycling for the tree huggers out there. Maybe in the end we will come up with a list of equipment and a plan of sorts. Who knows, this might be fun. Wiley, you can place this in any forum you feel better suited for it. Assuming anyone decides to participate. Wait, what am I saying, of course you already know that, this is your place. Break out the catalogs and lets see if we can build a project boat.
  20. While I agree to the less is more theory,. I kind of like the electronics forum on its own. I hink there is a lot of electronic talk out there and it clutters the forums sometimes.
  21. I just fond out they have closed the main street through my town. Now I don't think I can even get to my house much less get to go out on the water. I might actually have to check the tide chart just to drive there.
  22. So what's every one gunna do now that they are calling for rain and 20-30 mph wind and cold for the weekend? Kind of put a damper on my plans for sure.
  23. I am OK with him "walking around". As long as he keeps his dumb ass out of a boat. Seamanship is obviously not his forte
  24. I decided shrink wrap is the way to go. I am too far from the storage place in the winter to check on it and even though I would try to make it secure, the peace of mind knowing it is wrapped tight is worth it. Besides, if the yard wraps it and in tears or gets damaged while there, they will re-wrap it and make sure all is good. Plus I really don't feel like dealing with the tarp during the season. it will be too big to clean, dry and store easily. Its too late to have a canvass cover made for this winter, maybe next year. We'll see. oh yeah, remember this comment: "I trust you realize that you probably just jinxed yourself by counting on a mild winter. Prepare for blizzards, Pennsylvania and New Jersey! " Well I saw snow on a car on my way in to work this morning. Now that's effing depressing. I was supposed to go fishing tomorrow. mid 40's and rain all damn day might keep that from happening. I hate winter. Anyone want someone to keep their boat running in Florida for the winter while they vacation in ski country?
