  1. My list is kind of short but once the winter lets us loose my plans are for the following; Install the second VHF and antenna that have been sitting in the garage waiting to be put in Install two backup bilge pumps and high water alarms. Re wire and saerch for a gremlin in my sounder/E-80 Install front facing deck light Install I-pod adapter to stereo Install boat name Dream about a new radar package(this one is ongoing) Install chart rack(tired of trying to keep them dry and out of the way) Maybe underwater lights if the funds hold out long enough.
  2. I have been looking for a snow/bad weather/crap hauler and have been concenttrating on Suburbans/Tahoes since they have a great repitation for being able to run into the 200k and beyond. I don't need to tow with it but it would be nice if it could haul out my boat in a pinch if an emergency arose. I have a 25' cat and if I hauled it would only have to tow for a few miles to get it out of harms way if a storm came in so it does not need to be a work horse so to speak. I have the opportunity to pick up a nice condition Expedition for a good price. It has 90k on it. Does anyone have any experience or thoughts on these with ultra high miles? Do they last as long as the GM counterparts? Known issues? Comparisons to the GM trucks? I am religious with my maintenance and do it all myself but do not want to have to be making lots of repairs to an "extra" vehicle. So who's got one, who loves it and who hates it? Any opinoins and experiences would be helpfull.
  3. Will probably be a Toyota. You figure once they get out there the accelerator will stick and he will be running wide open the whole race.
  4. I have had no major issues with my WC. I had a few small ones and they were handled very well by the dealer and the company. And I bought mine used. Gotta post more info if you want more info back.
  5. If the weather forcast comes true, I might have the place to myself. calling for blizzard conditions on Saturday woo hoo sounds like fun
  6. It was an average day, normal 1-2 out front. Coming back in as the chop started getting bad and the inlet was probaly 5-6 foot rollers with a cresting wave thrown in now and then for good measure. Half way through it changed from slightly challenging to Oh S*&t where did that wave come from? Almost all the way through the rollers were gone and I was looking up at the tops of the waves as they were breaking. After successfully clearing the inlet and looking back I was quite happy with myself for the successful passing. That's when my passenger saw the guy that fell off the rocks and was floating into the inlet. Back in we went and it took a lot of maneuvering and a few scary moments including green water over the bow but we got him on board and met the coast guard in calm waters, who was on their way out after getting the call. They watched the whole thing and told me they were impressed. As we were pushing off one of the older guardsmen said "nice work Captain". I think that was the moment you are talking about.
  7. Lots of thought goes into this. Though you can never be too prepared. Upon boarding everyone knows where all life jackets are and if they have never used one, gets taught how to put it on and gets the "what to do talk": Stay with the boat, keep an eye on everyone else and listen to everything I tell them no matter what. If I say jump in the water, then there is a damn good reason for it. Well, except that one time with cousin joey, but that was just too funny and is a story for another thread Everyone knows that if someone falls overboard, everyone is to get them in their sights and point at them until I pull up next to them. I can cary 8 so I have 8 adult jackets and 6 child jackets plus a few very small jackets for really little kids. All are within reach of everyone before we leave the dock. My boat is a dual console so the throwable is hanging between the consoles for easy access from the front or the back of the boat. I have a throw bag hanging inside a door right next to it as well. Usually one or two get a quick run down of how to run the boat as we go through the no wake zones in case I need someone to take the helm. Normally I have the same small group of people on the boat and they are all familiar enough with everything. Any newbies get the rundown though. Five minutes at the dock can make a difference if something goes wrong 5 miles out. I don't have an epirb yet but the boat show is this weekend so that may change. Everyone is shown where the VHF is and the emergencey call sticker next to it. Flares and first aid kit are stored in the t-bag when underway and are within very easy reach. Everyone knows the importance of the GPS and how to read the lat and long in case they need to relay it over the radio. As far as equipment goes I have two flare kits. One new and I hang on to the most recent expirees for backup. First aid kit Throw bag Throw cusion Two VHF and one floating handheld ditch bag has water, radio, lightsticks, flashlight, first aid, orange tarp and a couple of inflatable vests I am sure I am forgetting a few things but as far as I know, we are prety well set. I don't run rescue drills but probably should now and then.
  8. I think this time of year all the summer activity forums are a little slow. I am on here multiple times every day and have noticed it is getting a little slower. Many things have already been covered but there are plenty of things to talk about. The "other" forum is busy but they also have many more members which makes a difference. This forum is still pretty new so it will take a while to get to that level. Personally I plan to hang around for it. I like it here in our peacfull little world.
  9. And since the Veyron and VW are way to obvious for the V selection, let's go a little more obscure with the Vauxhall VX220
  10. That's my plan as well. You browsing or buying?
  11. I am normally in and out 4-5 times every week day. Not so much if at all on weekends. FB definitly has taken advertisers for exactly the reason stated, it's free, and no one can bash your products on your page. But is is a false sense of accomplishment in my opinion(which is to be taken with a grain of salt). My company spends a lot of money being advertisers on the automotive performance web forums and we have pretty much everyone in the company making posts all day every day. Yeah, we get to play on the forums all day and get paid to do it! We welcome all posts, good and bad and will engage in discussions with both. Plus we have a great following with our customers and fans so it is never one sided like other companies are afraid of. I think a lot of companies fear being slammed and have no defense so they stay off the forums. For any that are reading this and have a good product, get involved in the forums!! We get and can document a huge percentage of our sales that are directly brought in from forums. Both click overs and phone calls. Facebook, no sales that can be documented, Twitter and MySpace, same, nothing. They are just a way to get your name out and give product updates but nothing to rely on as actual revenue gererators. At least not in my business.
  12. Well this particullar forum certainly needs a boost. With the whole region being cold and crappy I figure everyone would be indoors more and on the computer more. Guess I was wrong. I posted this orginally last year at around this time for the 09 AC boat show and it is still only the third thread down. So what the hell, I will bump it all the way up two lines to the top and ask if anyone plans on heading to the 2010 show coming up next month. It is Feb 3-7.
  13. I have never owned a Sea Fox, nor have I ever riden on one but I always thought that for the money they were a decent boat. Plenty of features, decent layout and good looking boats. I almost bought one but made the mistake of waiting and someone else grabbed it. Buy it while she wants you to!!
  14. While in the end it is just a name and the forum is the same, I do like ReelBoating better. I see your point with the down to earth friendliness of the name joeboater but in my very humble opinion, it just doesn't have the class and distinction that the name ReelBoating reflects. Granted we are all just a bunch of everyday joes boating here anyway but we like to feel a step above when we can. To me, at first glance, JoeBoater brings to mind row boats, canoes and aluminum boats tossed in the back of a pickup truck. Nothing wrong with them at all, I used to own one of them too. It's just not the crowd that we have gathered here to date. In the end everyone is welcome and the name is just what's written on the top of the page. It's what the membership makes of it that counts. Either way, if the forum stays the same, I am in for the long run. I started out on THT and in a short time there, saw the slow mutation of the board into way too much bickering and "johnson" swinging and then found RB as the nicer place to be so I will stick around. I will wear my ReelBoating T-shirt in lieu of the JoeBoater one though. I just can't picture what the JoeBoater logo will look like. Like I said, just my two pesos worth. No matter what the name is, I'm not going anywhere.
  15. Nice catch. I had a similar one that was saying it was from FedEx a little while back. It look real to me, logo, fine print, everything Said the same thing; "You package could not be delivered due to address problems" I receive packages at home frequently as does the Mrs. I saw it and was busy so I fugured I would get to it later. I mentioned to the Mrs that I got it and if she was expecting anything it was delayed. Just so happens, neither of use were expecting anything so I went back and re-read it. The e-mail was something like what you saw. Like FedExBSAddress.com or something like that. I forwarded it to FedEx and they replied within an hour telling me not to do anything with it. I have no idea what they really will gain by doing that but I guess we just gotta be careful out there.
  16. How bout......Jesus that's a big lure! OK maybe not then I would have to say Jackfish lures
